A marker starts on the marked (blacked out) circle of the track.
At the beginning of the untap step if a permanent with a marker on the track is already untapped they move the marker on each track one step to the right.
"N◅" means "Move a marker N spaces on its track to the left." and appears as cost may appear as effect.
"N▻" means "Move a marker N spaces on its track to the right." and may appear as effect.
Concerns:
The untapped requirement to move on the track may be unnecessary or even harmful as it promotes holding back your creature rather than going on the offense and push the game forward.

I think I like your variant except for the untapped requirement.
This is certainly a lot more succinct than
