Recent updates to Code Geass: (Generated at 2025-06-22 12:01:24)
Use mechanic and second main phase. Was "At end of combat, if (...) and it's the first combat phase this turn"
Another Overthrow common (on the expectation that not all of these 4-5 will make it into the final set).
This is a tweak on Slith Firewalker. The need for 4 damage makes me suspect this is okay at common - compare Bloodcrazed Neonate.
Another overthrow common. Looting is a fairly nice reward, but red discard-first looting ("rummaging") isn't quite so nice, and needing 4 damage as well means I think this can have Goblin Piker stats without being overpowered.
Ha! Thank you, Link. I've had a pretty exhausted year or two, and I've still not got that much energy, but I do want to do more development on this set.
It's good to see you back around, Alex.

Another possibility here is blink. I'd be happy to have a fair number of ETB triggers in the set. I like blink/flicker as a theme in general. Kaladesh has just done it as the
archetype, but this set isn't particularly time-bound so that doesn't matter so much. I do already have Geass Canceller which is perfect.
If I do go for blink then Shinkiro Type-0/0A could easily be retooled to use that.
Rather pleasingly, not only does this remove all the cards with literal type Geass, but it'll also undo all control-change effects whether temporary or permanent.
I'm wanting to focus the colours a bit more, and blue is the colour most focused on technology development. The (Blue-black archetype) wants some defensive knightmares, so even though this is rare, I think it'd fit better in blue than in green.
One of the ten colour-pair archetypes.
My thinking here is that
are the two colours with the most card-draw, and this set has a lot of cantrips and combat tricks. So this could be the "spell triggers" pair. Heroic-style abilities, "whenever you draw a card" abilities, that kind of thing.
I'm thinking of specifically focusing on "draw second card in a turn", like the theme in M21. I think it'll play somewhat differently in this set because here it's mainly powered by cantrips which are often played mid-combat.
Rares: Payoffs: Giant Broadcast Screen/Propaganda Airdropper. Triggers: Diethard, Information Officer, Lloyd Asplund, General Tohdoh, Revert Allegiance, Taizō Kirihara
Uncommons: Payoffs: Thoughtful Strategist, Kirihara Engineers. Triggers: Geass to Inform, Prepare for Survival, Prepare for Infiltration, Traditionalist Insurgents
Commons: Payoffs: , Nimble Sensei. Triggers: Informational Gambit, Misinform, Aggressive Urge, Geass to Inform, Stealer of Secrets, Supply Drop
It's a slight pity I've currently got Miraculous Recovery pegged as the uncommon reanimation spell, which is a delightful reprint (Miraculous Recovery) with great flavour for the set. Indeed, as I point out over on that card's discussion, the recursion in the series is generally "I wasn't as dead as you thought", and the flavour there is better in white/green than black/green. So maybe this should actually be the (Green-white archetype).
Which leaves black-green looking for something else to do. Attrition is possible: green will have card advantage and possibly a little regeneration, black will have plenty of removal... I have a bit of a problem here in that this is my least-favourite colour pair and I don't really know how to build a deck for it with uncommons and commons.

One natural possibility is that decadence is quite a mana-hungry mechanic, and so pairing it with green ramp effects would be natural.
Another option is raised by the observation that Code Geass has a fair amount of characters who die then turn out not to be dead. Green-black is more traditionally the reanimation colour, but the flavour in CG isn't Zombify or Rise from the Grave but rather Miraculous Recovery (which I'm thinking of reprinting here). Even though (((C. C.))) comes across like a Reassembling Skeleton, it's flavoured more like troll-style regeneration. So maybe
can be the graveyard pair in this set?

This will be one of the stranger colour pairs for flavour, with red being the Black Knights' primary colour and white being a Britannian colour, but that's okay. R/W is traditionally an aggressive weenie-rush pair and that should work fine. I'm thinking W and R could both lend themselves to a handful of token-generating cards, mostly at uncommon but one or two at common (I like Material Gambit). They could both have +X/+0 spells/effects such as Rally the Peasants (to be fair, any colour but blue can get those), and virtual vanillas with ETB triggers replacing spell slots to get them lots of small bodies on the table.

Red is the Black Knights' primary colour and green is their secondary colour, so there'll be the most Rebels in this colour pair. Whatever my Black Knights keyword mechanic ends up being, this colour pair will see it the most. Overthrow as on Rebel Recruiter is one of my chief candidates.
Green cards are in a tricky space in this set, without the traditional recourse of "huge fatties at common". However the Four Holy Swords, 2-3 of which are likely common, have Bushido which will help them win combats. This colour pair might need some knightmares or good combat tricks to win combats, but both of those ought to be in reasonable supply.
One of the ten colour-pair archetypes.
Not too sure about this one.
Black-green is traditionally a midrange, graveyard-matters, attrition-y combination. Some of that works better in this set than others. "Midrange" and "fatties" don't really apply because there's a cap on the normal creature sizes as discussed at Suzaku Kururugi. The way to get fatties is put decent pilots in decent mechs.
However, Code Geass does have a fair amount of "wouldn't stay dead" feeling. Occasionally characters die for real, but fairly often they come back in a dramatic reversal. That's my design for C.C., Impulsive Witch, though she's currently rare. I could probably find appropriate themes to do more recursion and graveyard-matters cards.

Black-red is traditionally an aggro combination. I think that works well for my plan in this set: Rebels with Overthrow (if I go with Overthrow as the Black Knights mechanic) backed up by black mecha, removal and Geasses.
One of the ten colour-pair archetypes.
This is definitely one of the more controversial planned archetypes. Is it possible for a set to be balanced with multiple common control-change effects as well as some at uncommon too? I'd like to find out, because that'd certainly fit the flavour of the series. This would be a kind of tempo deck, using temporary control-change effects to borrow the most relevant blocker or attacker, backed up with combat tricks and a bit of removal.
On another note, I also mentioned on Blue cards that blue-red might want to have a looting subtheme; that also synergises nicely with the card-draw-matters of the (Green-blue archetype).

My plan here is Knightmare Control. Defensive creatures in defensive knightmares, counter and bounce and kill, then win by going over the top or bleed them out on life.
One of the ten colour-pair archetypes.
The two colours of the Britannian Faction. Full-on emphasis on decadence, slowing down the enemy, control and bleeding.
Other possibilities: Could go for a lifegain theme here, or a Britannian mech focus.
