Recent updates to Code Geass: (Generated at 2025-06-22 16:00:02)
As promised, the simplified form of Goblin Bushwhacker/Reckless Bushwhacker, for the (Red-white archetype).
If this were a real set I'd be looking for a more reprintable name than this. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that :)
The costs here are weird. At
it's the surged form of the Reckless Bushwhacker, and thus strictly better than Reckless B. At
it'd be strictly worse than Goblin Bushwhacker (and probably still fine). So I'm trying this out as the gold uncommon signpost for the archetype.
haha. copy-paste error that's invisible on my phone.
Erm.... what is 'OBJECT REPLACEMENT CHARACTER' (U+FFFC) meant to be doing in there?
The uncommon gold build-around-me for the (Green-white archetype). A Viridian Joiner crossed with Steward of Valeron. Intended to help pay for decadence. Takes advantage of the low equip costs of knightmares.
give it a name
"for as long as ~ remains on the battlefield"
Reprint of Aggressive Urge, particularly for the cantrips-themed (Green-blue archetype).
Aw, bah, the name is too close to Misinformation. Need a better name. Divert is also taken (though that might be a decent reprint in this set).
For the (Green-blue archetype). I considered Regress or Repulse. Both have appeal: Regress can bounce a Knightmare mid-combat leaving the pilot suddenly smaller, and Repulse is a cantrip to keep the cards flowing and to trigger the green-blue card draw triggers. I couldn't decide between them, so went for this in-between approach.
I think this is a fair cost even for common. Compare Into the Roil.
The (Blue-red archetype) really wants a blue common control-change effect. How can you make a common control-change effect that doesn't seem red (due to being temporary) or absurdly OP for common? This is my attempt. Inspired by Fate Reforged's common dragon Lightning Shrieker.
Cool idea. Like Assault Suit? Has the slight drawback of not working with my current design for Fervor of the Converted, but neither does Steal the Prototype.
For the (Blue-red archetype). Art is obviously Diethard.
This kind of thing is normally rare (Sower of Temptation), but I'm hoping the significant restriction means this is okay for uncommon.
A kooky tweak on Sen Triplets, involving the combat step and restricted to creatures as a way of taking the cost down.
Art is probably one of the Black Knights out talking to locals.
With a different flavour, something like this could be Kaguya... though blue isn't really the colour I'd associate with her personality.
Down to uncommon. Removed When ~ ETBs, return target Geass card you own from your graveyard or exile to your hand."
You could throw in a few inconsequential control change cards in there too, if you wanted. Something akin to:
Technically, a Howling Mine

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player gains control of ~.
At the beginning of your draw step, draw a card.
This might be a bad example because it is so transparent. But this sounds like a great idea to me for global effects that we don't normally see. A Vulshok Morningstar that works its way around the table, for example, could be fun. Or a Shiv's Embrace.
Cards that fit within the control-change archetype:
Common: Silvertongued Rebel, Geass to Betray, Geass of Desertion
Uncommon: Subtle Betrayal, Hostage Situation (the replacement for Fervor of the Converted and Hostage Exchange), Master Manipulator, Propaganda Officer, Steal the Prototype, Persuasion Strategist
Rare: Recruitment Officer, Charismatic Revolutionary, Allure of the Shiny, Daring Hijacker
Off-colour: Return on the Other Side
rare, Debt of Loyalty
uncommon, Incriminate with Complicity
uncommon, Zero Requiem
mythic
Also relevant: Ruthless Insurgent, Recruiter for the Elevens
The uncommon gold build-around-me for the (Blue-red archetype).
Still not sure if this is actually viable.
The (Red-white archetype) wants a one-shot anthem onna stick. I was looking to see how expensive this has been at common before (to see if Harsh Taskmaster is viable/on-curve), and found Inspiring Captain would be an excellent reprint for the set. The one counterindication is the creature type Knight isn't one I had been expecting to use. On the other hand, the set is full of vehicles called Knightmares.
So this could either stay as is, get a functional reprint changing only the creature type, or get some minor tweak (cf Ampryn Tactician).
Similarly, I'd like an uncommon simplified version of Goblin Bushwhacker / Reckless Bushwhacker. Bushwhacking is a concept very in-flavour for the set, though it's not a specific term I recall being used in translation. Goblins, of course, are right out, and I wouldn't be including Surge or Kicker either.
Edit: Designed that card: Urban Guerrilla.
A quirky control-change card with a number of uses. Although it's temporary control change, I feel it fits better in blue than in red.
Doesn't need Prepare, by any means. Could gain or lose it according to whatever the rest of the set needs.
In playtesting, sure enough it turned out to not be very useful - just fog a creature for a turn. Would be better if there was a "Whenever you gain control of a permanent, draw a card".

Could be used along with Misdirector or Vault Skyward to build a Geass to Betray without haste (meh).
Was intended to be used on creatures with powerful activated or static abilities like Ruthless Insurgent, Avenging Samurai, Recruiter for the Elevens, Lloyd Asplund, Technophile Duke. It can also work at the beginning of your upkeep in response to your decadence trigger to steal other decadence abilities like Britannian Arms Dealer for a turn.
Still might not be worth it.
A common (more expensive) version of Enthralling Victor. Given that Act of Treason effects are at common every set, I don't see why a virtual vanilla with ETB Act of Treason can't be common. I'm trying to be cautious with the power level here though.
As mentioned on Prediction / planning mechanic: want some uncommon and rare prepare cards. This is a flavourful and powerful saboteur effect. (Technically it's strictly worse than Ashen Powder, and worse than Necromantic Summons/Rise from the Grave except that it's one mana cheaper, but I don't think that really matters.)
Rare or uncommon? Either could work. Uncommon would let this do more work for the graveyard subtheme if that's even in black.
(This also has the upside of being similar enough to a control-change effect that it gives Revert Allegiance and Geass Canceller more to do.)
The resemblance was noted earlier over on Prepare for Ambush :) I think it's just coincidence / convergent evolution.
The heritage of this cardset's Prepare can be traced on the discussion over on Prediction / planning mechanic. JackV proposed the first version, over on the cardset comments page: > Plan
(
: Exile this facedown from your hand. Until the end of your next turn you may turn it face up and cast it for
. If you don't, return it to your graveyard.)
Then me, Jack, and the Goblin Artisans (particularly Jenesis) riffed off each other as chronicled on Prediction / planning mechanic, to end up where we are now, > Prepare
(
as a sorcery: Exile this face down from your hand. On future turns you may cast it from exile for its prepare cost as if it had flash.)
I created the Prepare for Ambush cycle, playtested, concluded it's good, created a few more such as this card; then I did nothing for two years, then came back and started making more cards :)
Did you borrow this from Anydria, did I borrow it from you, or did we both just end up making a very similar mechanic?
Prepare 1W->2W so preparing isn't just strictly better than casting
