That's certainly one of the more challenging submissions for a mechanic name.
I would play the heck out of Subvert cards.
Unobtanium Myr
See Challenge # 143.
Flitterspy using Subvert
See Challenge # 143.
thinks ok, maybe it's a bad idea...
I raise you Chromatic Sphere/Chromatic Star. Wizards knows it's an issue and printed Selvala anyway. I'm pretty sure Tabak had mentioned how awful Panglacial Wurm is as well.
Agh, headache It sounds like abilities which do anything irreversible should not be mana abilities, and Sevala is a case they haven't caught up with yet.
I don't think Panglacial Worm is broken, but I agree it's treading in dangerous waters...
Also want to point this out: http://magicjudge.tumblr.com/post/93628251814/im-actually-kind-of-upset-by-your-last-answer-to
A Horrible Death with "A horrible night for a curse"
See Challenge # 143.
It was fun thinking of something that fit "A Horrible Night for a Curse"... I think this is still a stretch, but is an interesting idea.
Mechanics that don't fall under the explicitly listed categories are also feasible choices.
Please give credit to the creator of the mechanic you choose to use. Links to the card sets in which mechanics originated would also be preferred.
Below is a random assortment of mechanics generated by users on Multiverse, to save you time combing through sets.

This list is by no means comprehensive! If you use a mechanic not listed here, I'll add it to the list.
The following challenges are also good places to peruse other player's mechanics: Challenge # 029, Challenge # 046, Challenge # 083, Challenge # 088, and of course Challenge # 143.
Cards With No Home and other non-themed cardsets are also good places to look.
Hm, maybe it should be "whenever you put two or more"..?
There's no big downside to adding a cost, but it doesn't seem to help a lot either, if there's cards that are overpowered with it. I imagined it in a block with mostly cards making small tokens.
Awesome. Hardened Scales for the other half of Doubling Season. Strikes me as pretty potent, especially with things that make a small number of big tokens.
Maybe it might work to have the keyword ask you to pay
to get the extra token?
Hm. The Charging Griffin ability. Closest keywords I can think of are frenzy (but that's only when not blocked) and bushido (the reverse). I could see this getting keyworded at some point, yes. Though probably with a slightly different name to allow it to go in white and green as well as red and black.
Reminds me of Reality Smasher. But while people would often be willing to spend two cards to kill a 5/5 trample, this one would just quietly ping away for gradually massive amounts of damage because people don't think it's worth giving up a creature.
I think the set would be unusual that could cope with this as a keyword mechanic. It'd probably need a lot of token making.
and a card? If only. No, as jmg says, this will mainly be triggered by Scalding Tarn and Terramorphic Expanse and so on. I do like the Panglacial Wurm ability, but it does have developmental problems.
Vendetta Goblin with Hatred
See Challenge # 143.
Not a very complex mechanic, maybe not keywording. But so many variations of it has been printed, did this ever get a name before?
Elder Spawnling also using Forbidden
See Challenge # 143.
This is basically invisible stalker but slightly less so, with a different flavour. I hope that's balanced enough...
Welll... it's only gonna trigger while you're searching; so you need to add on the cost of the tutor you're using. Which is, at minimum, a card and
.
On the flip side; though; you don't give up the normal tutor; so it's just an opportunity cost.
So this is kind of "Splice - tutor" which is interestingly powerful to say the least. But yeah; it would be very repetitive.
Forbidden should cost more than the regular cost. Also shouldn't be a mechanic at all: it leads to repetitive gameplay and is a logistical nightmare.
Pretty broken, seeing that it can be turned on by Scalding Tarn.
