Recent updates to Multiverse Design Challenge: (Generated at 2025-05-19 06:26:34)
I've been busy over the weekend, but want to come back for some of these. Give me a chance... :)
Nice. I like it.
OK, adding Anti-ballistic missile with "Flying, Reach".
Adding new phrase "Repeat this process"
Very flavourful.
Scry doesn't take a mana cost. Did you mean "Scry 1" or "Add
to your mana pool"?
That last ability... I mean, I played with something similar in Chief of the Formless, but I do wonder whether it works in the rules. People might argue that Spitting Image tokens, or tokens created by Growing Ranks, should count. And I don't think they do, but I'm not 100% sure...
See Challenge # 147.
The idea being, this set has flying and orbital, and orbital is like flying but more so -- orbital can block flying, flying can't block orbital, reach can block both.
I don't think that's very likely, but the reach change (a.) doesn't change how reach works in other sets, you only need reminder text on orbital and (b.) means "orbital" isn't completely "unblockable" outside this set.
Morphlicant was an attempt for "Flying, reach", but it didn't quite work, so that one's still open.
See Challenge # 147.
Was supposed to be for "flying, reach" and comes really close. But it doesn't quite count since I hadn't realised the abilities were in alphabetical order. Will try again.
That makes sense. I might try both "Eight target" is an interesting challenge by itself.
It didn't occur to me when I wrote that that I got the usual wording construction backwards. Feel free to make that "eight target" instead. Or go for hard mode, if you so wish.
I am going to come back and answer some more of the challenges but I didn't have a chance this weekend :)
"Target eight" is really hard, I can't think of any existing rules construction that would use it apart from "Target Eight-and-a-Half-Tails". I think I'm going to have to allow a full stop, which still doesn't make it easy. But don't change it now, I like a challenge :)
I don't see how this removes shroud from the Pinnacle. I can see splicing the ability to put tower counters on Kraj, but since it's a separate triggered ability that checks if you have 100 I still don't get how that wins.
Edit: correction to my comment about winning with Reactor. Turn 6 actually only takes a decent hand. I can actually get there on turn 5 with a perfect one. (Both of these assume I'm essentially gold-fishing, of course.)
Opalescene, Helix Pinnacle, Autumn Willow, and Experiment Kraj? Or Glaring Spotlight, wait until your opponent is tapped out (or Mana Short them at end of turn), then Donate it?
Yeah, that's the best I can do in order to remove Shroud. The first option requires white, which you can't do in your EDH deck (though, I presume Experiment Kraj should be easy to justify.) The second only gives you one turn... and then you still got to pay the mana to donate it. Still, I got to admit that it would be pretty awesome to see the expression on your opponent's faces when you surprise them with a Helix Pinacle that suddenly doubled from 50 to 100 counters in one turn.
Yeah, it's in my Vorel Commander deck, which is basically designed to get as many counters on as many things as possible. I think I can win on my 6th turn with Reactor with a perfect curve. Shroud makes Pinnacle almost impossible to abuse outside of Doubling Season effects.
Let's try one more time, eh?:
"enters the battlefield tapped"
or, if you're feeling spicy:
"enters the graveyard transformed"
Ah! Heh. I never played with the Pinnacle, nor seen anyone do it, so I presumed it wasn't too effective. But I'm kind of happy to hear it works for some people. I've seen a bunch of people try to make Reactor work only to have it not do much of anything. That said, they were using the tools at their disposal in 2003. I presume cards like Gilder Bairn do a fair share of heavy lifting.
What, no! My sarcasm what directed at how easy it is to win with this in a deck built to do so. I've won with Darksteel Reactor in as few as 4 turns before, and while this takes 100 vs 20, it's also not restricted to one counter per turn.
Oop. Another 24 hours. Here's another one:
"flying, reach"
Made Fuel from Food. Maybe we should add two word/s every other time we pull an Alex? Fine. Adding:
- "Target eight"
- "continues to shine"
For Challenge # 147. Mostly because I couldn't help myself.
Meh. I wasn't sure how many counters should have been on this. But you're right... I probably aimed too high. I think the thing that stayed my hand, though, was how easy it was for EDH to drop 50-60 counters on this just in a normal game of dropping permanents and no one attacking. Still probably should have aimed for 75-80, though.
Whelming Nodes
Adding "charge counter"
See Challenge # 147. A blue Drop of Honey/Porphyry Nodes?
Because the problem with Helix Pinnacle was that it was too hard to abuse.
Hm, this should probably have been an equipment.
Opponents play with their hand revealed. Equipped creature has protection from... and has "
: Scry
"
Oh well, I can't be bothered to change it.
True-Seeing Goggles using "Protection from Shapeshifters".
Adding "becomes a"
See Challenge # 147.
No takers in a day, huh? Okay, the rules state I add one more locked word/s. Let's try: "Protection from Shapeshifters"
