Oh good point, I was thinking that when I designed it, that it might be worth running it out with a sub-par copy if it can copy something good later, but forgot when I saw PM. OK, let's actually specify "rare", and then 5 CMC is probably reasonable.
CMC 6->4, specify rarity
Not quite. This can copy two different things. This could come down to 5 mana, though, yeah.
Form Echoer using Shapeshifter
See Challenge # 145 using Shapeshifter
I debated whether I needed to spell out the colour and size etc of the token, but decided it was reasonable to use that token for this copy effect even its text didn't exactly match.
I'd have to try a lot harder to find a card that names the characteristics of the token and says it may copy.
ETA: Oops, this is a weaker version of Progenitor Mimic. Oh well.
It's tougher than it looks, admittedly. I went to Cards with No Home and opened random boosters until I came across a mechanic that looked good. Figured that was the best place to start because it was the most likely place to find good abandoned ideas.
I really like this challenge, but just can't find any ideas.
I was quite annoyed at how cavalier Tabak's attitude to the assorted Selvala problems was. It could all be fixed by just decreeing her ability to not be a mana ability, or giving it "Activate only any time you could cast an instant" errata like Charmed Pendant.
The second mode can't be cast unless there are no cards in your hand. So the first mode is used primarily to set up a Wheel of Fortune in two rounds.
Admittedly, few people would be interested in a card that does that, I know. I originally had the Wheel of Fortune only effect you... but that would cost at least six mana, and by the point there wouldn't be a need to target yourself with 'discard your hand'. Presumably, you would just cast everything instead.
Um; wouldn't you in fact.. only ever use that mode?
Why would you cast this in advance; when you don't need to and the only benefit it gives you is discrading your whole hand?
I like this the best out of your designs, because you'll eventually choose the mode that means this isn't eternally recurring.
Created Cracked Wheel, Locamotive Golem, and Overprime based on crimsonreaper's Electrozephyr.
For Challenge # 146. See also Cracked Wheel.
For Challenge # 146. See Cracked Wheel. I didn't see any reason to restrict cooldown to instants and sorceries.
For Challenge # 146 using cooldown from Crimsonreaper's Electrozephyr. I like suspend, and know why we can't have it. It's a pity. Cooldown at least seems a little more reasonable, since it isn't tyring to put creatures on the battlefield with haste after casting them from exile. Obviously, that means I have to make a convoluted card that would never be printed for the mechanic. ;p
Heh. I like both of them. This one plays more like the curses of Innistrad, but for one turn. Cute.
Man, that could be one scary block. I presume cards in the vein of Blessed Wine would be sleeper hits.
I'm pretty sure the first card I would design for this set would be a Mythic artifact that put token creatures with Bumper Crop into play...
Horrible Burning another horrible night for a curse.
See Challenge # 143.
Another attempt to capture "a night for"...
Yeah! I think we had about the right mix of plausible names, slightly odd names, and tricky names...
Yeah, I like it.
I created Daring Trickster, using "Subvert."
See Challenge # 143.
