Reminds me of Phytotitan. But if anything I think I prefer this. Less abusable with sacrifice effects, but more useful for the "normal" use case.
Seraph of the Sword+Resummon Warrior
Well, that was easy. A creature that avoids dying to combat damage, and a spell that undoes dying. I debated over some details, but I feel like that's more of a mashup than I usually manage :)
I'm not sure if the result quite makes sense, but it seems reasonable. Lots of abilities recur a creature with some limitation, and this only works if it was dealt combat damage so it avoids infinite recursion shenanigans (iirc, once it returns it counts as a different object).
I did pretty much the same card as:
>
: Add
to your mana pool. If a creature died this turn, add
to your mana pool instead.
That was inspired by River of Tears.
Riptide Laboratory+Skull Bludgeon
This is probably too fiddly for a land, but I was intrigued at the idea of more complex conditions. Each colour pair would need a different trigger, maybe:
BR: morbid RG: bloodthirst GW: if you control a creature? WU: N cards in hand? UB: If a card was put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere?
But you want your opponent to block, so it has to be a little threatening. It's like afflict; both choices hurt.
Kazandu Refuge + Thought Purification
OK, this is more of a mashup of the ideas not the cards. I couldn't really do a blue AND white/black AND green/red card. But I liked the idea of a dual land a bit like the Abzan Banner in that it doesn't just give you colors, it wants to be played in a deck which has those colors.
Although this also takes Thoughtful Purification's idea needing a central colour and two other colours it isn't naturally. So for mana this goes in a blue deck, but it's a lot more powerful in a BW deck. I might have added "tap for 1, etb tapped", but I wasn't sure it would fit, and it reduces the draw to play this in the right color of deck.
I think it would work best if there was exactly one 4-toughness orc to fulfil the "meld" concept :)
There's very few orcs at all. They might be the only two in the set. Although it would make sense in orc tribal, either in that set, or as a pair in that set, but contributing to orc tribal in standard/modern.
A ping-for-two is definitely strong, but it didn't seem unreasonable needing a specific two-card combo to get. It's not as bad as two-card combos that win the game outright :) And it's probably fair if you're sac'ing your orcs.
Assuming that there would be such a thing as Orc tribal in whatever set this would be in, the card would be really strong combined with a 4 toughness orc.
Maybe there are no Orcs with 4 toughness (seems reasonable.) You'd need a little more set up then. But if you compare this to Tar Pitcher, you're probably fine.
Meld/Mecha + Orcish Artillery
My best attempt at a meld "orcish artillery" card :) I'm not sure if it should be cheaper given the extra hurdles.
dude's wording is better in the case of first strike as well (where normally this wouldn't deal damage at the same time as the opposing creature). I'd just give this power 1 so that it kills fewer opposing creatures.
I agree this should be blue. Best card to get? Yavimaya's Embrace is a fairly decent candidate. Eldrazi Conscription is bonkers but you need a steal effect too.
Echoing Courage coped with +2/+2, but "same creature type" is a wider criterion than "same name" so this seems fine.
Interestingly, this is basically Shared Triumph as a one-shot. Also works similarly to Crown of Ascension + Crown of Vigor.
Mighty Leap + Marshall the Troops
Small tribal enabler. Not sure of cost, assumed that even a deck that wasn't trying would get two targets out of this some of the time, so I decreased the bonus compared to mighty leap.
I reduced the pump because it got very very swingy when you were +2/+2ing multiple creatures. It's still nice if you get a giant swing in.
Diabolic Edict+Mobile Highway
I like the "sac matching your choice" mechanic. It's usually an inconvenience but with enough planning you may be able to get rid of a powerful creature. It's still quite clunky though. I considered ways of making it a bit stronger, but they all made it too strong when you happened to match your opponent's colors.
"If a creature would deal combat damage to ~, prevent that damage. You may search your library ... put it into the battlefield attached to that creature. Shuffle..."
I think it's clearer if you call out the other creature as the focus of the ability. Sure, this leaves the opportunity for you to kill small creatures rather than enchant them, but that might not be too big an issue.
It's supposed to be the other one, is there a clearer way of writing that?
Onto which creature?
Mashup of (((Flayed Nim))) and Deceptive Propaganda.
OK, this is fiddly, but I thought it was interesting. It survives as long as you have auras to spend. And if you have enough cheap removal-auras you take out any opposing creature. But if you plan for it, you might be able to get a powerful aura like mind control.
Except, why is this black?
Mami, Ally of Justice+Earthquake
OK, so a card having something to do with (a) removing creatures based on toughness (b) flash (c) super-bouncing creatures (d) not casting spells (e) girls who become powerful magical creatures in a burst of dazzling transformation.
I think I can do all that...
I went back and forth on tap vs bounce. Bounce fits better but is maybe much too strong on a repeatable effect.
Originally this was an enchantment that triggered when it ETB or a planeswalker loyalty'd, but that didn't work with the X.
Oh darn it.
Maybe I should have gone with my first instinct of "All permanents are attacking".
Yay! It's Bedlam! That card is crazy!
Strangely, I've never seen anyone play it. When it first came out, I was sure it was going to rough me up something fierce. It seems like such an awesome card. Urza's Saga sure did bury some gems, no?
MOAB + Undying Rage]
So... everything goes boom; and one of your creatures goes all attacky.
Huh. There's a really obvious card to make here; so what the heck.
Possibly flavours: "Go ahead, out-aggro me." "Lands, however..."
Angel of Light + Numbered comments.
Uh. No. Try again. Sign in Blood
White 3/3 vigilant flier for 5. Black pay 2 life for 2 cards. Wow, that's a bargain. Well, moderately; I guess it's only a net 1 card.
So a blood angel? That's a rather horrific form of execution, involving a splayed rib-cage. Oh; no; I'm thinking of blood eagle. Angel is the space marine.
Maybe sacrifice fliers for life or for cards?
Alternately; we know what a demonic pact is like in mtg; what's an angelic one like?
Humm. Well, there's the opposites theme. So sacrificing cards in exchange for life and maybe mana? Unlikely to ever be a useful bargain, though.
I could just do gain life and cards. It'd have to be expensive, but might be a decent counterpoint.
No bargaining there though. Mythologically, you don't bargain with angels. Even questioning them tends to end in object "Turned to salt / Eaten by a whale" type lessons.
Maybe exchange peace for cards+life? That seems to work.
And due to the ease of removing your own stuff; probably needs to be reallly expensive.
Aw man, I really want to give this "Protection from you and yours" But we're getting wordy.
Vigilance, when you cannot declare an attack, is pure trinket text of course. Flying may matter on block.
Blegh; not my best mash by a long way.
Returned Centaur + Sprightly Sphinx
2/4 mill 4 for 4, zombie human horse common. And yay human cat! Also cmc4, and - huh. Non-Green spells presence or absence powers up your creatures; depending on your opponents choice. Very riddly.
So, something human-x, CMC4, with some kind of effect.
I guess werewolf is the obvious remaining creature type to use. I think we'll go with a 'flip everything else' power.
Ugh. That means I have to think of another side. Blegh. Make it vannilla-wolf.
