testing out reminder text
Formating
Art: What's the point of that?
Here's some pictures from deviantart:
EDIT1: Oh, I didn't notice this was editable. Reformatted the card - I hope that's okay (some people seem to get ticked off by it)
EDIT2: Testing out reminder text. Looks like it would fit nicely within a "real" visual render.
EDIT3: I went ahead and replaced that old art. The link to that was: https://i1.wp.com/fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/160/7/c/Matthew_12_33_by_Delton777.jpg
2/2 is a rather small for a treefolk btw. Excluding Lumberknot and star toughnesses - all the treefolks have 3+ toughness. IMO this could be a 2/4 for its cost.
Re: Art. I just hit google image search; I think it's a photo.
And yeah, it corrupt artifacts into swamps. Intentional that you can also use that as a way to save an artifact, or mildly mana ramp. But mainly you'd use it on horrible enemy things.
> You may choose not to untap ~ during your untap step.
: Target artifact is a colorless Swamp land for as long as ~ remains tapped.
>
Green card having "Corruptor" in its name is rather wonky. The card even references black by turning the artifact into a Swamp. Well, maybe it makes sense it being a lackey of that Witherbark afterall.
The fun/weird thing is that this can protect your own artifacts fairly well.
Who's the artist btw? ... is that a photo? Surely you could find somewhat applicable art from deviantart or so.
Viridian Shaman + Witherbark, Corrupted Guardian
A 2/2 creature that blows up artifacts; and a 2/2 creature that makes forests and swamps and gets bigger from them.
So.. turn artifacts into swamps. Why not?
Jack created this as a mashup, and Jack usually likes to stick as close as he can to the source cards. Blue has interacted with auras in the past - Simic Guildmage, Aura Finesse/Aura Graft, Glamer Spinners etc.
But yes, to me this looks like it wants to explore the same space as my ((C19093)) (which used to be a
hybrid).
WotC intends most of the planeswalkers to be useful regardless of the deck (something like the original Nissa being an exception that proves the rule). This Jace requires a lot of Auras to be of any use. I'm not personally against "niche" 'walkers though.
Why is this
? Only the second ability seems blue and even it could be a
ability. The whole card stinks of
. I think it could work as a
hybrid walker.
Why is this a Jace? Seems entirely unnecessarily, especially considering how many Jaces there is already and how this doesn't relate to those in any fashion.
The first ability putting the aura on the battlefield is just asking for trouble. Skipping mana costs is always dangerous. It also makes the ultimatum feel less special and/or required.
I would be tempted to expand the Aura theme to cover enchantments (just replace first and second abilities words of "Aura" with "enchantment") or "Auras and/or Equipment" (both attach to things) in which case it should perhaps be mono-
(perhaps Nahiri?).
Jace, Memory Adept + Balal Enhancemancer
"Creature can't block creatures of that colour this turn" :)
Oops, yes. OK, lets try it the other way round :)
Was "Choose a colour. Creatures of that colour can't be blocked this turn."
I think red gets "Can't block this turn," but not this inverse.
Destructive Tampering+Pentarch Ward
Suggest making it draw "Up to one card" and some other "Up to one" bonus just to keep the rolling meter.
Volcanic Submersion + One with Everything
Vile Rebirth + Cinder Marsh
Moonlit Strider+Magmatic Insight
Both were from Kamigawa! But I couldn't really take advantage of that.
Consulate Crackdown+Spectre of the Hallow
Oops, sorry, yes that one.
And I mean, yes, I agree, it's too busy, but did you see the cards I was STARTING with? I can't see what I could take out and have it still be recognisable as a three-way mashup :)
I'm guessing you meant Whim of Volrath? But... Ahh, probably Volrath's Whim?
Anyway, this is pretty interesting. It probably doesn't need the sometimes-get-more rider - or rather, the draw-3-and-unpredictably-more idea and the draw-several-but-opponents-can-pay-to-stop-you idea are both interesting, and probably belong on separate draw spells. The latter is reminiscent of Zur's Weirding but much more sensible on a oneshot sorcery (with a higher life cost). The former is just fun, and a nice consolation prize for getting several lands.
I guess there is some synergy between the two abilities, in that if this is only going to draw you mostly lands (which the opponent probably won't pay to stop), it'll get you more cards. But still, I think you've got two cards' worth of innovation here, that don't need to be smooshed onto one :)
Mortal Combat+Power Play
Tales of Lake+(((Volrath's Whimsey)))
Mashing up complicated cards is hard.
I personally like the idea for a blue outside frame with a red pinline and text box or something similar.
Whee! Yeah, that would be interesting to try to find a home for.
I suspect Wizards would give it some funky frame treatment like Devoid. Top bar coloured red, the rest coloured blue, kind of thing.
Alpha Tyrranax + Gleam of Resistance
So a pair of commons, one a Craw Wurm++, the other a nasty surprise for attackers, also vaguely usable just for a final stomp; and high cost but land-cyclable. Nice card!
Not really seeing an obvious mash though. A creatur that untaps other creatures? Hmm, I liked a mechanic I saw in another set; let's try that here.
It's kinda sorta inverse land-cycling. But not reeally.
MEh. This ends up probably being a combo piece. Better make it legendary
Darksteel Ingot+Lurking Predators
Grim Discovery + U.S. Spec Ops Corps
Blue 3/3 with ETB best removal; and black raise-dead-land.
A raise-deadlands creature? Has best-removal been on a spell yet? Seems so: Banishing Stroke; Bant Charm. Costly, but it's not north-removal for no reason. Natural Obsolescence is way cheaper. Odd.
And I misread a different card, which gives me a name.
Meh. Fell flat, I feel.
Fair enough, that wording sounds good.
You pretty much never do anything with cards you look at other than put them back in any order, so I hadn't noticed.
