...I was going to have this be something that grants madness; or maybe recurs; to try and synergise with the other entries.

Then I wrote the type-line and the rest of the card follows. Ah; let's do the madness thing anyway.

Intention - it turns your creature to stone. Of course, it can't attack or block any more; but things might care about stats or sphinxiness.

And I think you can turn it to stone after you've already blocked with it? But that kinda makes gaining flying crappy. Probably should make it wear off at end of turn, since it's common. Yeah; making that change.

I like the turn-to-statue concept. Could it hit opponent's cards as well? That would make "can't attack or block" more meanigful. And yes, you can use it on your own creature after blocking, that's hopeflly fine.

Yeah; but the "Gains flying" fights with it. You want to get the flying to evade or block a flier - but you never can. It's pure trinket text.

I could let it hit opponents stuff; but in colourless; that's kinda risky.

And now I'm wondering what the relationship between the Eldrazi and the Σφίγξ is.

remove flying; it'll just add confusion.

The wording is wonky. Is it supposed to lose its abilities and color?

> Until end of turn, target creature you control becomes a Sphinx in addition to its other types, has base power and toughness 4/4, and gains flying, defender and "This creature can't attack".

// Retains all abilities and types with this wording.

> Target creature you control becomes a Sphinx with base power and toughness 4/4 with flying, defender and "This creature can't attack" until end of turn.

// Loses other creature types, but retains its abilities.

> Until end of turn, target creature you control becomes a colorless Sphinx with base power and toughness 4/4, loses all abilities, and gains flying, defender and "This creature can't attack".

// Also, causes the creature become colorless and lose all other abilities.

Though maybe what you want is more like Hour of Need.

> Exile target creature you control. Create a 4/4 colorless Sphinx creature token with flying. It can't attack or block.

// Straight up "replaces" the creature with a colorless Sphinx.

> Exile target creature you control until end of turn. Creature a 4/4 colorless Sphinx creature token with flying. It can't attack or block.
> Exile the token when the exiled creature returns to the battlefield.

// Temporarily "replaces" the creature with a colorless Sphinx.

Also, it looks like this should have the Tribal supertype.

Yes; this leaves it with colour and all its abilities. I went with it as the simpler option. Granting devoid is an option; but needlessly complicates an already wordy common.

Tribal got deprecated. And was stupid. There's no reason why I can't give instants subtypes; apart from one rules manager disliking it. Not that anything will care about this type; I didn't manage to make the cycle do anything with it, in the end.
