Recent updates to Pyrulea: (Generated at 2025-05-06 13:08:05)
Changed back to older card that had cycling cost of 2.
That's right actually.
Uncharted Territory?
I moved this to uncommon where it originally was intended. The slot is now empty. So there's space for a 4 CMC green creature. Maybe something with unbound?
It is a weakened Untamed Horror now.
Changed to uncommon.
That's kinda weak and needs too much setup to be Untamed Horror.
There is also Emori Mystic at common right now. Let's spread our mana elves across rarities a little?
This is the LD I was least fond of, as the mana of any color felt tacked on. It does function as an enchantment destruction against W/B though.
As far as auras, we kind of chose to avoid auras in
/
/
beyond 1 each at common because of the enchantment emphasis given to
/
. I guess it's true that the emphasis seems to be on negative auras though.
In a choice between the updated Sun Scorch and this, I'd prefer this for its utility as a cheap burn spell.
Red is cycling heavy, but also is a primary discovery color. Otherwise I'd agree that it is a bit mechanically limited in the set.
There is an uncommon already I made, Swirling Gale that does mass damage to fliers based on Discovery. So if this is moved to uncommon it'd be competing with that. Also, based on what was pointed out to me earlier in the comments (I originally thought it was OP but was corrected), this is fine as a common, so pushing it to uncommon would seem to make it a weak uncommon.
I agree though that this doesn't specifically address anything within the set.
I figured a straight up common LD was necessary. The black one is a creature destruction one as well.
I like this idea of making this landcycling instead of cycling though.
Seeing more reprints suggested at this point makes me weary, TBH.
That's kind of cool. It's the opposite of what we've done on some other cards, where the creature dies to transform into an aura. Not sure how black this feels other than being based on death though.
How about "At the beginning of combat during your turn target creature you control gets +1/+1 until end of turn."
Is this an answer to anything the set has at common? Otherwise maybe put this up in rarity and use the slot for something else.
Third common LD spell. I totally forgot this sent went three-for-three on putting one in each color that could get one.
I want basic landcycling here - and maybe hit nonbasic lands? The antisymmetry between the effects would be delicious.
Also second LD next to the black one. Are two common LD spells a goal?
Third burn spell removal at common. Next to black's suit of removal I smell a trend. Explains also why there is no room for combat tricks and positive Auras. :)
How come we have two burn spells that cycle and deal damage when cycling and are instants at common? Is cycling the only mechanidc red gets?
mana cost 1R => 4R; damage 3=>5; cycling cost 2R=>1R; cycling damage 3=>1; Would you play it?
Global enchantments at common are always problematic. Have you considered Auras turning into creatures instead for these slots?
The cycling cost seems to entirely ignore that you get a cantrip with your life swing.
Suggestion: Swapping mana cost and cycling cost.
I want this to be a 3/2, but I approve of the sentiment of the death trigger. Maybe a little to straightforward.
Is this the right color for this?
Why have this in a set with Vampiric Bargain? Choose one and kill the other (maybe for another removal spell? ;) )
EDIT: Just noticed that this is my chance to suggest turning this into the black member of club "(french) vanilla that cycles for a single colored mana".
My reprint-fu was weak.
CB10? See Untamed Hunger.
Colour shifted Giant Spectacle, or a better Untamed Hunger? Should get a different name though if you want to make it cheaper, also "Enchanted creature gets..."
