We have a swarm/token theme in black-green and a +1/+1 counter theme in green-white. In green they overlap.
Big picture question: Should we keep the red-white theme as is? The more I look into it, the less it fits the set. Since 1/1 tokens have been moved into black-green there is no natural overlap there, and green-white's +1/+1 counter theme actively works against "low toughness".
added preliminary name for easier recognition
See Barkcrack Lurker, slot UZ06 Barkcrack Lurker. Doesn't need to be tribal in the final version.
I'm open for "you may", but black sometimes gets enchantments that are not fully under its control as a theme; "bargaining for more than you wanted" cards.
If this were to be controlled, I'd probably make it Graf Harvest for Insects.
Looking further over the skeleton, this could be the token maker for (UB06) as well, so we free up a slot for interesting designs.
That would be the third "When you do a set thing, burn something" card in the skeleton just of the top of my head. If this goes in, we should cut the discovery-themed triggered burn.
I like the fact that this has options in general. Maybe earmark this design for a rare/legendary down the road?
We have two unused slots for creatures with unbound in the skeleton. I added this as a contesting card to one of them so we keep it in mind if the slots keep being empty. => (UG07).
This is just once again giving an already green effect like on Adept Explorer to all colors on an artifact.
Decide for one?
I prefer either of the two creature versions of this we have on file over this.
Tragic Slip upgrades from -1/-1 which only removes the smallest creatures to -13/-13 which effectively hits everything.
The upgrade from -4/-4 which hits already covers a wide competetive range to -7/-7 is by comparisson extremely arbitrary.
This is a sorcery-speed Throttle variant that forces itself to use a set-mechanic because it doesn't realize that it already creates interesting - arguably even better - gameplay without the discovery rider.
Removing the discovery clause would improve this card.
See Swarm's Hunger. Variant for consideration.
While there is no slot that obviously fits this, I feel like a card along these lines has a place, if anything, as a way to make up for the land destruction in the set. I can see the enchantment part being problematic though, as this isn't the right color for that. What if I removed the enchantment part and made this put a land from your graveyard onto the battlefield tapped?
Added to skeleton. If we include this it would be our main cycling enhancer.
Added to skeleton. We hadn't touched the uncommon artifacts. This one fits the Discovery theme well.
Could an altered version of this more similar to Lightning Rift fit the UR01 creature/cycling matters slot?
Something like:
Whenever you cycle a card, you may pay 1. Then 2 damage.
Basically, it would be Lightning Rift on a stick, but it only counts cards you cycle instead of any player.
This technically fits UB06 as a token maker.
Consideration for this? It really doesn't fit into the skeleton based on the descriptions, but we don't have much cycling going on in black right now.
Dont want this for the blue enchantment, mainly due to the off color discovery. Blue mill enchantments are fairly common at uncommon which is why I put it in the skeleton. It can often end up being the win con for the control decks, and are always fun build around cards.
This technically fits the "mill enchantment" slot, but (1) I question wether the blue enchantment slot should be for a mill card and (2) this is also off-color discovery.

I dont think its a win more card. It's following a similar vein to Tragic Slip, which wasnt really a win more card. I'm going to put it in to replace Swarm's Hunger for now, because that was the only card in that gave -x/-x in the current set.

Cutting this for a mass damage card instead, dont think we need that much single target burn too.
What if the enchantment part was actually replaced with land instead? As this is more of a lands matter set with a minor enchantment subtheme.
