Korozda Guildmage + ((C82539))
Huh, an interesting snake-breathing ability. And pump, intimidate, and melt you down for fungus.
So something with a variant pump ablity; clearly. Melt you down for pump? Seems legit.
It could be green with a blue activated ability.
Ooh , maybe make it green but keep the cost as U, or maybe even
.. I've never seen bounce auras in green, besides Rancor which is sort of a different thing entirely.
No; I just figured the silliest way to make people able to block flier without granting them flying themselves was to make them really implausibly tall. By magic.
Flavour ref is "Geoffery the Giraffe"; "Too tall; too tall, the warden's cries; still echoed in his ears" (but then later it turns out that being tall is just what the zoo needs and everyone is his friend - it's one of THOSE sorts of childrens books)
Also, only just realised; shouldn't I have made this green? Blue gets outright transferrable flying which was probably my intent when I made the cost.
hahahaha
oh wait you're serious
Is this a reference to that practice whereby people have their legs broken and medically lengthened so that they can be up to five inches taller?
Consulate Skygate + Haze Veil
Artifact reach wall, enchant-unblockability that can move to a new place.
So, an unblockable artifact wall? That's a bit silly. Movable reach? I guess that works; pretty sure this exact card already exists though.
simplify wording
Myr Turbine + Apolloryze
Make myr, multi-myr may make more myr. Maybe.
And a snow creature which is just basically huge and stompy.
So make a giant multi-coloured myr? There's already a sunburst myr; and we have one coloured myr, Sarcomite Myr. Multiple mana myr, of course.
What's the myr lore? Memnarch! Mirari! More m's!
Well, I've obviously chosen to use the letter m a lot :)
Apollo; in the form of god of war; is the equivalent of the
Theros god Iroas. Who grants... the two
abilities (damage prevention and menace) that Apollo here doesn't. Hmm. Tempted to say "What artifact abilities do no Myr grant" but that's, well, all of them.
And what the heck; the mirari is supposed to be a full-blown wish-stone. Maybe the myr can bring it back.
Mountain + ((C101038))
Huh. Make a
land
. The land itself is... get a colour you need right now. Uh; I assume it's meant to tap because otherwise that's infinite mana on a land-drop.
Ok; red gets rituals. A ritual that adds mana based on your hand is a fine thing. Probably needs to be uncommon simply because you don't need so many of them floating around. But doesn't deserve to be a rare.
And the wording... I mean, yeesh. Colour identity is a thing; but referencing it in card-text this way? Feels bad. (Was: "Add one mana from its colour identity")
Using colour identity also means that lands will generate. Maybe it would be better if they did not? It reduces the danger in the early game because only if you're mana screwed can it be used for ridiculous mana. But the 'shares a colour' wording is just even yuckier. Oh well, can't see anything better, we'll stick with it.
Not really sure how I got an instant by mashing two lands; but I did. The original had a cantrip; but I don't think this needs the complexity. And... I actually think I've made a nice card. Would need balance testing, but I think it's nicely between the +3 and +5 rituals.
Sokenzan Renegade + Application Error... + Spiritual Transformation
Bushido; but changes control to the player with most cards. Because a 3/3 for 3 (that can be a 4/4 if it gets in combat) is just too terrifying to be useful.
And... Transform a thing. Kick an extra
to cantrip.
Hmm. ... Ok, my first idea turns out to be one of those "Evolve on trade" pokemon. I mean, it's a legit mash, but how does that make sense for mtg? Hah! It could be an ante card :)
Well what the heck. This is the kind of thing that might have existed back in Alpha, maybe. It's untrackable; unenforcable - except in the kind of "small group" that mtg was originally envisaged to be played in.
And it's a flat-up upgrade on hill-giant and that's a thing that alpha did. So we'll price it for that. Though honestly; this is still overcosted nowadays, even assuming anyone playing it gets it to be a 4/4.
Scintillating Fire + Viashino Runner
3/2 menace lizard; and make a players charge counters explode at them for 1 each.
So... energy instead of charge; lizards instead of damage; and flavour is that goblin that reported on the runner.
Spending from other players mana pools? Yowsers.
Untame Lightning + Gamble + Spectral Sliver
Ooops, accidentally rolled two random real cards. Sure, let's go with that. The last card points out that The slivers are back so I'm making a sliver.
The sliver in question being a ghast.
Ok, so... gamble. Wow. Search one card from your deck; destroy your deck. Then discard a card at random. Hoping it not to be that one game-winning card you got. Or, you know, you're planning to win by having no hand and library. So shamefully, this is a cheese enabler.
And deal 5 to a random creature, and 1 to each player.
Ok; wow. All slivers tutor would be utterly utterly bonkers. All slivers dealing 1 to each player is perfectly fine though. Admittedly, all slivers have "When a sliver ETBs, deal..." would ramp really stupidly quickly.
Incorporating gamble... ah, we'll turn damage into mill. That's a cop out. Let's not do that. It incorporates none of the risk.
Make each player discard a card at random? That kinda fits. But it's an unprintably horrible card because it's wayyy too easy to break the symmetry (I draw a card, I play my sliver, everyone discards 14 cards... guess we're all just playing from top of deck) and just not fun at all.
All players tutor? That would be... yeah, still too crazy. I think we'll have to stick with just the damage bit. Oh well.
Kjeldoran Warrior + Demunerate
Oh hey! A 1/1 vanilla! From Ice Age.
And destroy 'creature with an ability'. So two things about vanilla. That's... Murganda. Plane of dinosaurs and cave men. A place too young to have evolved many abilities.
...Ironically; I kinnnnda want to make an ability. "Devolve (n): Lose all abilities, gain n +1/+1 counters". Which... huh. It removes itself; so it does actually work.
Sure, ok, let's do this. The multiple-activate trick is entirely intentional. And I've invented the proto dragon; so that gives me the creature type :)
Art.. "Devo dragon" unfortunately fails to find me any songs. But I am reminded that the mario movie had both dinoasaurs and devolution; and adding mario to the mix finds me this littel beastie. There's surprsingly few actual dragons in the mario games proper; probably to avoid upstaging bowser.
Wu Longbowman + Koth's Hammerblow
A Prodigal Sorcerer variant, and a Spire Barrage variant.
I just corrected a typo of 'Prodigal Sorcery' so there's my name. And although I'm tempted to make it an instant just to be contrary, there's my type.
What does it do? Clearly damage to creatures/players. Eh. I think it'll be a green mass-blast type of thing.
Pacifism & Control Magic are far from unplayable. It's more a matter of finding good combinations of creatures/auras. Here's an example:

: ~ loses this ability and becomes an Aura enchantment with enchant creature. Attach it to target creature. Activate this ability only any time you can cast a sorcery.
Creature - Licid
Enchanted creature gets +5/+5.
1/3
That's an early blocker, and giant sucker punch late. Sure, the aura is fragile. But not before the creature already performed its early game function.
Here's another example:

: ~ loses this ability and becomes an Aura enchantment with enchant creature. Attach it to target creature. Activate this ability only any time you can cast a sorcery.
Creature - Licid
When enchanted creature leaves the battlefield, draw 3 cards.
2/3
This licid takes advantage of the fact that auras are fragile by nature (it should also be pointed out that if the creature dies before the aura is attached to it, the entire ability fizzles. We don't lose the licid.) Sure, you got to be creative to make licids work. But it isn't hard to find 12 unique designs in a block.
Auras are usually unplayable. Licids probably just needed the bestow tech of only reverting to a creature when the enchanted creature died. Not really playable if they were just auras with an additional cost of sacrificing a creature
There's a reason it was considered a failure. Though I think it may have had more impact if the design team (i.e. "Mark Rosewater") showed more restraint. Licids don't need to be able to turn into creatures again. And they should only be activating at sorcery speed.
Back in the day, I used to use cards like Tempting Licid to block, then jump onto the creature it was blocking, then become a creature again, all in one motion. It was a lot of fun... but it also meant that Tempest block had 12 pseudo-Blinking Spirits. That wasn't what Licids were designed to do.
Wow, the licid wording is even worse.
I believe the keyword you're looking for is "Licid". ;p
And yes, that's not how haunt worked. It's better.
Dungeon Geists + Card14051
3/3 blue paralyse. And sacrifice to force spike.
Sacrifice to paralyse? Eh. It works. Kinda very nasty though; since it can't be undone.
Maybe do the "turn into enchantment" thing?
" people in another country are bad "
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Burnished Hart + Madstyle Dancer
Godly Artifact Creature, eat for two lands. And a... 3/4 that's a 4/3 on attack. And hits all players for 2 when it dies.
Sacrifice to swap P/T? On death, everyone gets land?
Ah heck, we can do both. "search their land for a library"... um, let's try waking up before making cards?
Ancestral Memories + Nissa, Intruder from the Du'at
Scry 7, draw 2, cost 5. (Nearly). And.. well, this card is three cards long. And a planeswalker. That.. unexiles a land into a 4/4. Exiles a land from deck, to gain mana. Gives you a tonne of mana for the rest of the game.
Ugh. Planeswalkerify the ancestral? That's only 2 abilities though.
Hmm. Need a 'for the rest of the game' ability. Oh, terrible pun. Doing. Annnd stupid too long card. Can't fit flavourtext. Bad pun is the reduced wording:
For-rest: Forest
Plains + Avaricious Asura
(Mirage plains if it matters) So whitify (or miragify?) a greedy demon. (Kinda? Asura aren't quite classical demons, more.. humanised maybe? They're bad, but in the same way as people in another country are bad, not like a primordial evil. And they're redeemable. I simplify horribly.) Anyway, this one is lifesteal 1 on creature death.
And.. well, they have an inverse - the 'angel' equivalent is the Deva. Charity is the opposite of avarice, and amusingly we can flip the effect too - life grant on creature ETB.
So this is an anti-token-swarm creature. Which is odd in white; since white is usually the token-swarm colour; but it's not the ONLY strategy. So this is a build-around; as well as a puzzle-piece (I'm... giving life to my opponents. How can I win from that? I bet there's a way...)
I might have cost this too high? I think I'll make it fly.
Scavenge + Sunspire Gatekeepers
Interesting. Regrowth or Cantrip put a card on top of someone elses deck from their graveyard. At instant. As a common. That's a surprising powerup.
A 2/4 and (set mechanic) a 2/2 vigilance.
These things seem to have basically nothing in common. When you return a card to your library, get a creature? Sure, whatever. I've been stuck for too long. And after all, there's plenty of mechanics that reveal or search, which would trigger it. I guess it's a build around. And you can tell how completely enthused I am by this idea, so put some random numbers and types on it and have done whatever blah.
Mmm, it was actually a "Didn't think of it" rather than a templating thing. I was thinking of this as a kill-spell with upside. But sure, the +1 counters could be the desired use, and the kill part an upside.
Plus the symmetry of "X to up to 1, 1 to up to X" is pleasing. Changed.
