Deathrender + Tinstreet Brawl
From the department of bad names... a sword. That polymorgenerates the thing it's attached to when it dies. And an intsant "Get big, then fight".
Sword of fighting. Sure, bad name can be a thing. Make it on-attack to stop it from being "Equip over and over and machine gun your dudes".
OK, taking a cue from jmg's https://www.jmgariepy.com/2017/07/19/the-cube-according-to-not-gatherer-part-11-random-generator-blowout-bonanza/ let's try a triple mash of a magic random generator card, a hearthstone card, and a redemption bible-based CCG card!
We got:
https://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Abusive_Sergeant
Abusive sergeant. If I'm reading that right it's a 1 mana 1/1 with an ETB giving a target +2/+0. I can't remember how hearthstone colours work so I ignored that.
https://redemption.fandom.com/wiki/Potiphar%E2%80%99s_Wife_(Wo)
Potiphar's wife. I forgot this part of the story. After Joseph is sold by his brothers into slavery, he rises in importance, but then (according to the narrative) his master's wife tries to seduce him, and when he rejects her, she accuses him of having assaulted her, and he's thrown in prison where he ALSO rises in importance and eventually interprets the pharoah's dreams.
In Redemption there are Good Characters and Bad Characters, and you use your Good Character to fight an opponent's Bad Character, and if you win, you rescue one of the lost souls in their house of bondage. If you rescue enough souls you win. Your deck must contain a minimum number of lost souls, if you draw one you put it into the house of bondage and draw another card. But some other cards put characters from play into the house of bondage, like this one.
Which is a 2/2. Gold, whatever those colours mean. And if she defeats a male character, it's "exiled".

Finally a randomly generated card. No permanent link here.
Creature - bird (2/2, white) Flying First strike First strike
Converted mana cost: 4
So... 2/2. Probably white. Flying. First strike twice. One-off pump. And some sort of exile-on-die ability. Let's see if we can get one sensible magic card out of that... :)
Forest (new phyrexia if it matters) + Living Stone
Buff and animate statues and walls. Nice. A global Animate Wall. I'm not really sure how to make that green though. Green likes to animate lands; could do that? Nature's Revolt tells us both we can do it, and it's already been done.
How about going the other way - green likes to return artifacts to the land. So de-animate creatures? Um, the wording here is ugly. But meh. The idea is pretty clear. Articfact creatures stop moving; other artifacs become nothing more than stumbling blocks. The toughness boost both gives a more wally-form for things, and also keeps non-cretaure-artifacts alive (and nicely turns them into a Wall of Wood).
Hysterical Response+Odessa Kuthra+Heart of Lies
The idea is, instead of +1/+1 or -1/-1 counters, there are fate counters, but each player has a different one.
That is two sorts of counter, but hopefully it's easy to track compared to keeping track of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters at the same time, because each player only needs one sort, that's recognisably different to their opponent.
And the counters can go on your creatures or the opponents', and each spell or static ability typically adds on ecounter, and gives a particular effect.
Forest+Parapet Watchers+Khalni Heart Expedition
Again, three cards go together surprisingly well.
Stun Sniper does the first half - the second I certainly haven't seen. Damage prevention, especially the not-all variant, is kinda of a dying breed imo though.
No race type?
Declaration of the Vicar+Samite Archer+Second Wind
These abilities all went together pretty well. It's just that I wanted the end result to be both a priest and a guildmage.
Insulated Dell+Arrest+Thalakos Drifters
OK, that's a journey. Three reasonable-ish cards and we get this :)
The static effect is on the bird, so is it saying that lands spend their first turn as swamps? My first assumption was that the bird had an ETB effect turning all lands that entered the turn you played the bird into swamps permanently
Edit: Actually, I like that. See Mana Leecher
Swamp+Corrupted Ibis
Well, that could be in black already. But the land-shifting effect doesn't make sense outside the original set, so lets have something slightly different.
Cancel + Tale of Ages
A lot of fairly straightforward possibilities here. This seemed more interesting than having a "cheap if you control a legendary creature" spell, although those should exist in a legendary-matters set.
Brontotherium + Object
Big and stompy. And a white counterspell. Because, um.
So a big stompy counterspell? Pretty sure it's been done, but here we go. Flash, fight. That's how green does a Remove Soul. And with a bit of effort, you can make it hang around as a stompy vanilla.
...yeah; this is too close to flat-removal for my taste. Technically it's using a creature; but the pie has been bent so hard that triangles have four sides now. I could add "summoning-sick" to the target; but then it's just moving it to "You realise this is a counterspell; right? Counter target creature with toughness 5 or less?" which... yeahno.
I'm not sure this is redeemable, really. ... I guess maybe make it have more toughness, so that it's actually likely to hang around. That makes it much more "a big creature with an upside". The required casting cost of such a card would also mean it would be too expensive to hang back as a counterspell though.
Anointer Priest + Warding Whelk
Gain life from tokens; exile your dead creatures to bring them back as mummies. And a wall that taps to prevent damage from a blue or white creature.
Exile creatures to prevent damage? Sure. Wording might need work.
...I only just noticed that I made a "Crature". I'm keeping that typo.
Wortle
Giant Tortoise + Heavy Lifter
1/4 as long as it doesn't attack; and a 1/3 that can move cities around.
Oh I don't, know. A 2/7 that carries worlds on its back.
Wall of Brambles + Application Error + Shellback Troll
Huh; I wonder why this stopped getting printed? It's annoying, but not the cheapest regenerator, so not the most annoying. I mean, you wouldn't see it now because regen, but you'd think it would have made it out of 5th.
And... kinda another regenerator. Though it's back to hand, so a lot more costly.
Ok, I'm giving in and making a card named "Application Error". And clearly it regenerates or something like it.
Modern regen equivalent is invulnerability. But feel like doing something a bit more complex. "Brambles" is usually a term for dealing damage to things attacking you; and I think we can merge those two together.
Also, "+1" in a circle should totally be a magic symbol, letting me use it in costs like this.
I like this
Island + Blitzhorn
So, make blue (and 2011-ise)... a
X-trampler that also shoots-for-X on etb.
What's blue for that? Blue gets huge sea serpents, and sphinx. For X... mass unsummon, card draw/scry, some counterspells.. that's about it, really.
Ah, bodge it.
Goblin Brigand + Tezzi Guildmage
2/2 must attack; and 2/2 grant power and flying.
So I'm making a 2/2. How about a guildmage that projects downsides instead of giving your things upsides?
That sounds like a thing.
that art is intimidating
Sabretooth Tiger + Ogre Meteorcaller
Oh wow; Ice Age! 2/1 first strike. And a 3/2 first strike that also shoots something for 10!
Guess I'm making a red first striker. Or a superstriker?
Can I make a 10/1 first striker? I mean; I can - but what would it be, and cost? Mash makes an ogrecat? Sure; that can be a thing. Sounds both pouncy and huge.
I'm guessing this needs to cost like 7 or 8? 8 is too much; it's not actually a game winner, you can just chump it a few times. But with a bit of a boost it is huge.
Really really needs to be rare. Certainly can't be common or uncommon, and I don't think I can make a french-vanilla mythic; so rare it is.
Not my best card, by a long shot.
If the creature dies again, you should exile it. You can kill even liches
Sure. Ok; being sensible; I probably should have put in some clause to make this fall off if something would die. But meh, what the heck. Invulnerability is a thing.
What if I equip this to a Lightning Elemental in my graveyard? Can I attack with my 3/0 as though it were in play?
Blackblade Reforged + Mortuary Ritual
Raise dead, flashback 3/3 deathtouch. And equipped creature is land/land.
Huh. Equipment reanimation? We can do that. I mean, it bends rules to do it; but so what?
I think my reasoning on making it a tree ws that trees have high toughness and this ability wants you to use high toughness cards.
But sacrificing it to itself is kiiinda a bombo, so the stats are certainly up for change :) Casting cost I have absolutely no idea about. I guess it should probably have been
+
or
since it's a finisher.
Yeah, this is a card that I'd like to see pop up in a regular core set. One of those uncommons that encourages an entire draft strategy. I'm unsure of the stats since this seems explosive... but I couldn't tell you that for sure unless I playtested it anyway.
Thank you :)
Oh, nice. I'm loving the flavour of some of these mashups.
