Very strange combo of two vintage cards that probably won't be reprinted. Reverse Damage and Betrothed of Fire.
I would have made his mana cost phyrexian too. But then I realised he isn't a phyrexian, he just has some phyrexian tools and powers because of Rath or something.
And haven't we so often before needed a {WUBP} tri-phi mana symbol? :)
Interesting direction to take it.
Cards I got were Ertai, the Corrupted and Mind Rot. Quite an easy mashup to make and a good opportunity to modernize Ertai.
Well I figured Acid could destroy lands and artifacts. Also saying "destroy target artifact and land" felt a bit pointlessly powerful.
That's a fairly direct mash; cast one or cast the other (with a bit of modernising crumble). Nothing wrong with workmanlike.
Hit the random card button on Scryfall. I got Crumble and Mwonvuli Acid-Moss.
Dimir Machinations + Scavenger
Doo doo doo; making a black card. Hate-scry-3 with CMC-cycling.. kinda duff except as a tutor? And... a card for command-and-conquer? It can make and move counters; the counters have no natural effect, but the set has cards that consume them in various ways. Including to add +1/+1. So they're pretty much charge counters, or maybe more like energy.
What does "Make and move hate-scry" mean? Maybe one of those black-creaturees that turns traitor?
That could work - controlled by the player with smallest library, allows you to hate-scry an opponent. I don't like the idea of making you count libraries repeatedly; so we'll base control on hand-size instead. That's not a terrible proxy for "Did you get forced to draw a bunch of dross" - i.e. were you hate-scryed the most.
Use "reveal" instead of "Look at" primarily for the shorter text.
And... give it haste because otherwise yees.
Flavour... rat maybe? And needs a class to go with that race. Uhhh... wombat. Sure. Image search finds me a (mostly) hairless bunny, and we're done.
"It's a storage land. But you only get to remove one counter at a time."
;)
I like the design. But yeah, the execution could use some oomf.
So you eat food and shit
???
It's evocative but a little bit gross.
Flight + Disseminating Dirge
Huh. Simplest, most blue, enchantment. Somewhat underpowered by modern standrads though. And a black enchantment - which... forces players to discard their hand, but can pay
per card they want to keep. Or get the thing you've enchanted killed.
That black one is itself a mash - Errant Minion + Fugue.
So I'm making an "Errant Fugue Flight". Is it the fugue or the flight which is errant? The latter is more visual; we'll go with that.
Sooo.. we have a goblin in a conductor's outfit, waving a baton and making the screaming goblin orchastra fly around wonky all over the place.
Bringing in the "Pay a cost to do a thing" and making this all-upside gives me a repeatable fly/no-fly. The name sounds more like a creature than not.
Not really kept much fo the fugue here, but it feels fun. It's like a goblin balloon brigade in reverse :)
School of the Unseen + Grand Feast
A land of Colourles, or wash at 2-to-1. And... a green life-gain that also rituals some of the mana back.
Sooo.. a colourless lifegain ritual? A lifegain land? A green-wash ritual? Heck; I could mash these together and make a Forest.
Ah heck; lifegain land. This is just dull and poor and rubbish and BLEH.
Smokestack + Jovial Comrade
Humm, a bear that can have +1/+1 in very specific circumstances. That circumstance including "It's the first turn it can attack and you've perfectly hit the curve". Which is an interestingly aggro-rush card.
And... gosh; culmulative-upkeep: Annihilate.
A 2/2 with annihilate? Upkeep: Bear? Annihilate-curve (what does that even mean am I just throwing words at the wall to see if anything sparks an idea, I think I might be)?
Ah forget it, I have nothing clever. Let's just make a lot of bears. Could be a white enchantment; but I think we'll make it an artifact to reference the source. Gives me some terrible flavourtext punnery too.
Rarity? When anouncing this card; you must say that you are going to play the rare fair bear factoria. Duh.
Ah! Then your Alpha word template is too modernized. Here' let me help with that.
"You may discard this card from your hand at any time; it can not be regenerated. Doing so provides protection from black ability to any ONE creature. This ability does not end at end of turn, but instead lasts until the game is over. Cost to cast, tap, maintain, or use a special ability of target card remains entirely unchanged. Mark the changed creature with tokens."
No; I mean - this deliberately doesn't end at end of turn. Like thoughtlace, magical hack, etc.
"Failing to say UEOT" is not an Alpha thing, that's a very specific Portal typo
Plains + Fleetfoot Ninja
So make white, (Alpha edition, if it matters) - and ... wasn't that a card in the most recent un-set? Anyhow, hexproof or discard to double-hexproof.
White can sure throw around protection. Frankly, I think I could just colourshift that directly to white.
Well, let's alphirise-it too. (That is; prot-black instead of hexproof; and not clarifying that the effect doens't end at eot)
Taste of Blood is a Sorcery
Well; my reasoning is given in the flow-of-consciouness initial comment. Also; I was sleep deprived due to heat.
The actual wording might be: ~ deals 1 damage to target creature. You gain 1 life. Draw a card.
(I personally hate the contraction of 'target', so make it target-creature which, honestly, is more likely anyway. This is probably still too good at cmc1, so maybe should be a sorcery?)
Why do you do this Vitenka
Yeah, you'd be surprised how bad some of these hearthstone clones get :) That example I gave is literal. "Countdown" gets reminder text when you click on it. (Which you can do only when no animation is playing because why would you want to do sueful things?) But the card it's going to summon for you? Big nope until it's in play.
On the plus side, the tiger has pretty shiny artwork.
