Moved to CR01
That makes sense to me.
It could also go on an uncommon
flyer.
Looking at this again, I think I'm leaning towards wanting a creature for each CD pair of allied colours. I do want those creatures to have flying. But actually I don't see any reason why they all have to have 2 power. I think for my first draft of the common gold cards I'm going to go for CDs with a range of sizes and keyword abilities, such as Tamer of Monsters and Minions and Aeran Elf. This one (the common
flyer) could be 2/2, or 2/1, or 1/n. It was suggested on Spooker of Slavers and Devils that
could be the colours to get a "loses flying" creature, so this could be the place for that, although there will be other gold flyers at common and uncommon so we could have that elsewhere too.
On the other hand, we could dial back and make this a 1/1 flying haste for 2. That'd still be cheaper than flying+haste has been available before. Even at 3 mana, the options are Chandra's Phoenix (rare), Deepcavern Imp (has echo), or Skyknight Legionnaire. So this could still be rather interesting as a little 1-power hasty flying beater.
I note that hexproof is quite irritating on a flyer. Especially so if the monocolours aren't going to be able to block flyers at all, and will have to use spells or activated abilities to deal with them. This could end up being this set's Invisible Stalker, and I don't think we want that.
@Jack: I think there may be a bug in my new "speedier" recent changes display where some items can fall into a gap between pages 1 and 2. I'll look into it.
EDIT: Yes, there was. It's fixed now.
@jmg: I also had thought we should have more of those, and I had definitely thought there was more discussion of the fungus nature of green. I'm not sure what I can do... I'll look to see if I can find anything in a backup of the database. ...Hmm, no, my backups are somewhat constrained by Heroku's free plan: I have one from a week or two ago, and one from July. There's only two logs of cards being deleted from this set: once yesterday, and once in mid-September by rourke. I doubt rourke would have just randomly deleted the Green Commons Submissions page, but I agree it's not there. There are 8 logs of comment deletions, but they're all by me, jmg or link.
Yesterday I noticed some comments I saw weren't showing up in "recent changes". It seems there's a problem with... something?
Okay... something really weird has gone on here.
White and Blue Common Submission seems to be unnaffected, but there's a lot of comments that have been cut out of Red, Black and Multicolor... including my suggestions for a line up. Green Commons Submissions doesn't even exist. The card isn't there. Search "Common" in the search bar if you don't believe me. I have no idea where it went.
It's not a major problem, since the cards are here in the file, and we can reconstruct what people were thinking through the individual submissions. It is a bit... weird.
Ooh, yes, Crystal Quarry on a creature. Good idea.
One of this and Aeran Mana Maker should probably be uncommon.
Hmm. Should it be a creature which does filtering? I think it probably can work thematically.
As an aside, I love the creature type - could make all the Aerans Angels :)
Alex added Aeran Mana Maker. I followed that up with Coatl Storyteller.
Because Alex commented that we should have a card that helps add WUBRG. Tapping for it seems too expensive, so here's a card that filters for it.
Not really as part of my assembling the gold commons, more just a thought that we might want this. People are going to want to assemble Aer theme decks, and that will need some serious mana-fixing. Something that taps for Dawn's Reflection seems appropriate. Then we have the unfortunate realisation that creatures are the only permanent type that can be gold and can tap! (Assuming we're not doing evil coloured artifacts or even-more-evil tapping enchantments in this set.) So this has to be a flying creature.
Anyway, just a thought; we can throw it in or out as we deem appropriate.
use [mechanic] to standardise wording
All right. What we have now is:
Serpent of the Endless Sea
Territorial Octopus
Glistening Kraken
Sea Drake(which may or may not require a name change)
Flood Crab(increased in casting cost and toughness to not get in Overflood's way.)
Giant Hermit Crab(which got more giant to get out of all the other creature's casting costs)
Overflood(The simplest enabler we have without going my route of super simple enabler.)
Flow of Memories(Which both Link and I added to our lists, so it seems like fair game.)
Tomorrow I'll be looking at the spells, making sure to add two more flood spells in there, and aiming to get in a utility creature or two.
upped cost and p/t to have this creature not compete with the other efficiently costed commons in the set.
