I considered something more complicated where paying
kept the aura alive and paying
gave haste, but it was too complicated.
I'm not sure about costing; I wanted something between temporary stealing and permanent stealing for UR. This may even be too good for uncommon, since if you can afford it you can steal the creature permanently, which is now restricted to rare. Maybe this should have a shorter lifespan but cost UR.
This was originally going to be a multicolor card that shrank a creature (black) and did prevented it blocking (um), but all the ideas I could think of could be done best by black. Again, very close to existing cards, and very similar to vertigo, but either is something the set should have.
Originally the flavour was of an Aeran exiled; now it would make more sense to change it to an Aeran ambushed by black creatures.
Wait, I missed that this was uncommon. Ignore me, this is fine.
Except perhaps that if this and Nimbus Elf both go in, that means we'll have all the
cards below rare just making mana. Which seems a bit overly focused.
Reminiscent of Consecrated Sphinx. Turns on Enlighten abilities on each turn. Should this have a lifeloss rider like Phyrexian Arena / Graveborn Muse?

give it an uncommon code
changed my mind: add as common
removing code, making uncommon
I've been wondering about this again. If we're having Enlighten as our Aer ability word, I want to have quite a few cards with it at common. So far I've got Aeran Priest, Psychomancer, and probably Nimbus Elf. I'd say I want at least 5 commons with it if not more; and that's already a full fifth of the gold commons.
make uncommon as discussed
add code
Good point. 3/3 is definitely ok. Errant Ephemeron is the only 4/4 I can find, but suggests 4/4 is ok if costed appropriately. I fear you're right about anything larger than that.
Possibly this would be a place to use our intermittently-flying technology? A 5/5 which flies depending on something, or can be blocked by some non-flying creatures?
I do like this. But it has the big strike against it that it's using "Enlighten" differently to how permanents with Enlighten such as Aeran Priest work. I appreciate it is just the same transformation as Zendikar landfall (Plated Geopede) to Worldwake landfall (Searing Blaze), but I'd still rather not have Enlighten on instants and sorceries in this set. (It's a fine idea for a card in the next set though.)
Good idea.
There are five gold slots in the skeleton marked as "mana fixing or multicolor card that can be played as mono?". I'm not sure where that was discussed, but it does make sense. In the same way as Alara Reborn had a few cycles of cards that you could use even if you only drew one colour of mana (the Borderposts, the Sojourners, the Architects of Will cycle, the Valley Rannet cycle), if we're going to have 20 gold commons it'd be nice to make some of them usable even if you fail to draw both your colours.
Another Valley Rannet cycle of basic landcyclers is one option, but I'd like to explore some other possibilities. One such is some creatures with ETB abilities and Evoke. It's fun that this cycle could naturally have creature abilities for the non-evoke colour: This is a sorcery-speed Impulse with nothing nonblue about it, or a white-blue creature with the decidedly nonblue ability of first strike.
"I like that red supplies the "hit all nonflyers" and black supplies the -X/-X effect."
Yeah :) I'd just gone through several "stapled together" cards, but then this one seemed just right. It's slightly odd that one color could be seen as supplying a restriction (since black can sometimes hit all creatures), but if you think of that as "all creatures without flying" rather than "one creature" it makes sense.
I have been wondering whether green would get a Hurricane effect.
Me too. And yeah, green should certainly get plummet, and I think it should certainly get a hurricane somewhere as it's so appropriate, but you're right, second set makes sense.
Is it remotely feasible to have a generic green common fatty in gold, with flying? I fear not; I fear this would have the same board impact as a Shivan Dragon and completely distort Limited.
What size can a common gold flyer sensibly go up to?
Interesting. Red has a history of doing this kind of thing, dating back to Earthquake vs Hurricane. I like that red supplies the "hit all nonflyers" and black supplies the -X/-X effect.
I have been wondering whether green would get a Hurricane effect. Perhaps in set 2, like Creeping Corrosion and Grafdigger's Cage.
Oh yes, so it is. Maybe we should have some split cards, if they're more flexible to cast in a multicolour deck (although lets not just yet, lets wait and see if its too hard to cast traditional gold cards).
Thank the random Magic card generator for this idea. It's spectacularly simple but has never been printed. It's Zombify / Breath of Life / Argivian Restoration but opened even wider.
Although those are all uncommon, I have a feeling this should be rare.
I like the design of glimmerwing, and agree its great for UW but I feel we shouldn't pass up the opportunity to have a vanilla-ish creature where it makes sense, and I feel 2/3 is a very nice example; simply by being out of the range of 2 damage it makes it already a lot more resiliant. I'd say stick with Carer for now, but make sure a glimmerwing gets in at uncommon (probably with a different P/T).
Created that one at Relive for discussion. Name is obviously changeable.
I note that Jack's alternate proposal is precisely Rise from Rise // Fall.
