Maybe we could reword it to be...
Hired Gun
Artifact Creature - Mercenary
If less than two mana was spent cast ~, you lose 2 life.
I'm not sure if that's a common though. :-/
What is the reasoning for this reprint. I didn't see any land matter, besides lands in graveyard, theme.
Kinda odd for black to NOT get a 2/1 for
, yeah.
to avoid the punishment.
REALLY odd that you can't spend
I'm worried that this card wont look right to new people looking at the set. It feels like it shouldn't punish you if you paid two mana. Maybe we should just change it "Etb tapped" and "~ can't block" instead and drop the reference to black mana.
I'd be fine with the untap clause if we went with the Grixis Illusionist-esque version. I was just thinking about the mana bases in standard and how itd effect them. I didn't think it would a good idea to inflict something similar on our own colorless lands.
Yeah, that's the Tideshaper Mystic approach. There's also the Grixis Illusionist approach, only letting this hit your own lands at all. Either way is fine, but I don't think Reef Shamans without either restriction are a good idea because they're too easy to use for mana denial.
At
, Myr Adapter was a last pick, never played with card from Mirrodin. For the Adapter to be considered 'good', it would need to have three separate pieces of equipment attached to it... which probably made it bad once again, because all your equipment was forced to stay on one creature to get any sort of real benefit.
That, and Mirrodin came with a lot of equipment. I don't know how many components you plan to feature in your set, but I'd assume this card won't be relevant until about 1/3rd of your commons are components. And even then, players will probably start passing on the components to play more creatures.
Or, in other words, Scars Metalcraft turned on when 3 artifacts were in play (often, including itself). That makes Chrome Steed a worthwhile draft choice when stretching to make an 'artifact deck'. I'd think that would be the baseline to build around, suggesting this card should be a 2/2 for 4.
You could afford to lower it to 3 if only because Cogbound Boarhog was pushed up from 3 to 4.
"Use only as a sorcery." would fix that issue. It also alignes with the blues productive side of land altering, rather than blacks land destruction theme.
IMO [Strength of Ages Past] has the most flavor potential. We need a card to reference what the plane was like before Cyrus arrived, iff we want to show that in this set. Only by showing what was before we can bring across the influence Cyrus had. I'm referencing the Planeswalkers Guide from the first post here, hoping that it hasn't been reworked.
Yeah, it could be seen as a bit naughty.
It also works off of equipment.
It is if we're using using it to make components playable. At 3 mana nobody else wants it, but it has a little more value.
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
I'm not seeing it patrik. Care to inform the class? :p
Maybe just give it Arcbound Reclaimers ability.
This feels incredibly weak.
What if it was a Claustrophobia your opponent could kill for 2 mana? Like paying off the chancellor to find another worker.
I believe the proposed name could use some improvement. Making it cost 1 more is a good idea. I like that.
Sure.
The name of this card is dirty. Or is it just me?
Something like [Strength of Ages Past]?
Basically, the creature gains strength (+N/+N) and wisdom (Untaps) from the age old trees around the caster.
Or we could take off the "don't untap" part and just have it be...
Steam Dreams

Sorcery (Uncommon)
Tap all creatures target player controls.
Lol, I guess I should learn to read the cards.
I think its missing the text "under your control." and I think that (now that I've read the card) Modular 1 might work just fine.
Modular 2
If another creature you control with modular would put it's counters on Ironwisp, exile that creature.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if Iron Wisp's power is 5 or greater, you may cast a spell exiled by Iron Wisp without paying it's mana cost, then remove 2 counters from Iron Wisp.
A tree- it could be any tree really. There has to be some level of mysticism I think, to explain green, especially in a world like this where magic is literally a chunk of rock. So, the trees could absorb some of that and provide a very subtle level of protection.
Maybe gift of orchids would work, I could see someone gaining strength by drinking mana infused nectar a little easier than a mana infused tree blessing a protector.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this is that it does indeed protect planeswalkers from attack. I do think it needs to make clear that subtypes are also lost.
...And now I have the mental image of the aura literally falling off and making a clonking noise as it hits the ground. XD
It gets artifacts from graveyards, so neither of those things.
