Mechanics | About Archester

I just generated a booster and I got 6 cards that deal direct damage to creatures and players. (Self Destruct Button, Spellslinger's Creed, Throttle Gnomes, (((Timed Explosives))), Steam Release and Buckshot.) Just 1 booster, but as-fan seems high.

Nice to know.

Booster by booster, I see a lot of really strong cards. We may need to weaken our cards a bunch.

Not necessarily, take Innistrad for example. In triple Innistrad limited there were very few cards that were legitimately unplayable. I would like to see something similar happen here.

Except no deck other than the spider combo would run something like memory's journey or spider spawning. A lot of our cards are incredibly versatile, just better with their buddies.

Think of this as a design hand off: almost every card should be playable. Once we've ironed out the kinks and being testing, we can start the development stage, in which we will raise and lower the power levels of certain cards to pull the format in different directions.

Does it feel to anyone else that we have a distinct shortage of Vanilla Creatures in the set? Particularly in the Commons?

Yes, I had similar concern myself about vanilla creatures myself. Even RTR block, which was packed to the brim with stuff, managed to include a few.

I agree this set is packed full of stuff. I think what we need to do is find what the important themes for limited are, then we can determine which cards can be cut for vanilla or simplified.

Just to let everyone know, I have made a new post back on the home site about the set as a whole.

Something that I think we should think about is adding this reminder text to our Twobrid cards, or atleast the common ones...

({2/C} can be paid with any two mana or with {C.}. This card's converted mana cost is N.)

We've been having a disscussion over on salvation about archetypes for each of the color pairs in triple Archester draft. What is everyone's thoughts on the subject? What should the draft decks of each color pair look like?

people, I have a few Ideas(also meaning a few topics)

1) for spellsilgers(I know that wrong, Not good at spelling), we can use the Vithian stinger "tap: (name) deals 1 damage to target creature or player" power to show aiming and firing. also we can have musket welding soldier doing the same thing(musket and musketoons are in the 1500\1600's timeframe, with earlier gun coming form the far east(more on that later)

2) (maybe for another set) Steampunk is well known for having lovecraftian horror, and since Eldrazi are like the cthulhu mytheos of magic, we can get more in deep on them.

I'm not saying more "Wipeout the field" cards, but more "Great Race of Yith" and "elder Things" beings with time warping and horror abilities, and some "flying krakens" and other beasts, and maybe a Eldrazi planewalker

3) as said earlier, the far east seem to be a good place of "old ways batting new tech", japan was having a Civil war during the 1870's

Has anyone come across anything to talk about recently?

on 21 Oct 2013 by Eldrazi Izzet man:

it seems like the answer is "No"

Anyway, how do you like my Ideas?

on 21 Oct 2013 by The Humanity:

I've been inspired a bit by the create a theme deck thread on mtgs. I think making a few of those and play running them could do the set a lot of good.

Anyone?

Right?

Hi guys, I'm sorry I haven't been on lately I've been really busy with school. Has anything come from testing in irl? Also, could we start coming up with some art descriptions so I can put them on the cards? we have some but I think more would really flesh out the world a bit...

on 16 Dec 2013 by The humanity:

This seems like something that belongs on the old creative thread. I say we start with important legends and go from there down.

We got the art descriptions for them. They were some of the few that got them.

Hey guys. It seems like everyone has been busy lately, (including me). I've made some changes based on individual card suggestions. If we want to continue working on art or flavor things, we could revive the old creative thread, and continue any card discussion on this site.

To anyone who hasn't yet seen, a new poster named ComicalFlop has found a ton of great art for the set. Head over to the creative thread on MTGS to see his work.

There are 17 cards in the set that either have Flying or grant Flying, but only one card that has Reach. That probably needs to be fixed somehow.

Over in the Archester Creative thread we've begun work on the art descriptions for the White commons. If anyone would like to put their imagination to work have at it. :)

I finished and posted all the artwork in the creative thread on MTGS.

If your comments are on a small number of specific cards, they may be better added to those cards. This is for comments on the set as a whole.
