Killer Whale+Hunter of Ihsan
Wasteland + Thune Marshal
Huh. I didn't remember that you could, at one time, run 8x strip Mine. (Sorta) Ow.
And a soldier that can make more soldiers when it attacks.
So attack to destroy a land? Annhialator on a small creature? That's possibly interesting. Also likely to just be a complete shutdown though.
A token maker land? Feels boring, but sacc to do it means it isn't just a man-land; but you're giving up its land-ness; which is potentially a bit interesting.
Bojuka Bog + Kjeldoran Warzone
Guess I'm making an ETB tapped land.
One exiles graveyards. The other... is barely a land. It doesn't make coloured mana, it doesn't untap naturally; and it can be turned into an aggressive, but fragile creature.
I guess we've used up three colours, so there are two left.
The only think I can think of ends up taking nothing from the warlord.
Well, I'll cover myself by making it kinds silly.
Sylvan Messenger+Elusive Ocelot
Blood Ogre + Mussaya'n Priestess
It's a Grey Ogre... with +1/+1 and first strike?!
And another 2/2 that disenchants your own creatures.
So, I guess I'm making a 2/2 named Blood Priestess. Interesting, Magic doesn't seem to have a consistent meaning for 'blood'.
I want
: Target creature gains first strike; but NWO is there for a reason.
But this doesn't have haste.
But it's not "regenerate them" - it's "return them to hand". Anything more than one or two creatures will take a while to recast.
Well, I still stopped it recurring itself so you'd need two alternating. And it can still be stopped with pacifism or exile or counterspell, or shock'ing it before everything else dies. But yeah, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of.
I dunno; I think without that clause this can be used as a wall of "All my creatures died? Regenerate them. And, uh, I'll do that every turn. Your move, punk."
Thanks, guys. OK, I'll try it without.
It used to be, you can't return the same creatures that just died, I thought that was more interesting, but it probably doesn't actually make a difference.
Removed "You can't return those creatures."
Mind Games + Rage of the Mori
Half of Twiddle, plus buyback; and a red card that makes tokens every turn (and sneakily encourages you to attack a lot)
A token maker with buyback seems the obvious simple thing to do. But Sprout Swarm and Lab Rats already exist.
A token maker? Buyback of "Attack"? Oh; that's kinda sneaky - encourages you to play something after combat. So better make it something that would also be useful before combat. A twiddle would work; but is mostly useless outside of multiplayer.
And hey; I can fulfill Challenge # 143 at the same time!
So a sorcery, drop a token w/haste, recur if you attacked this turn. Is
too pushed? It is strictly better than a plain 1/1 haste goblin, after all. I think maybe
.
Now, does complexity allow this to be common? Hmm, actually; probably not. But making it a creature both would; and would allow it to be a lot more interesting; to boot.
Templating is fiddly and horrible though; I don't think I got it right. The idea is this can be a one-shot attack hasty thing; or it can stay in play if you decide to not attack. Annnnd... damnit, I think I just recreated a mechanic I vaguely heard about from the latest tarkir set.
I don't see that it particularly needs that restriction. It should probably not be able to return itself... probably.
Jack, what is that last line supposed to mean?
Oops, thank you. OK, made it non-reminder text for now, but still thinking about the best compromise -- should it have that restriction at all? If so, is there a clearer way of stating it?
The reminder text is wrong, FWIW. Golgari Thug can return itself, and will sometimes have to; same with Aphetto Vulture.
Vault of Whispers + Tangle Asp
Serra Aviary + Enigma Eidolon
Hmm, So you always get one card for this dying; then another card for each thing it took with it? Wording sounds a bit wonky for that; but I do like the stormcrow idea.
I guess it isn't 'up to' so that you're forced to return opponents creatures sometimes? What happens if there still aren't enough?
Aven Fisher+Death Denied
Marker Beetles + Rift of Twisted Power
Guess I'm making a green card then.
One is modular, and cycles from play. The other is; whaddya call it; insular (though making other rifts cheap when you can already cast at CMC9 seems a bit trinket-text to me) - and allows attacking things to grow huge.
So here we go - everything is modular. Allows sneaky theft of your opponents counters, too. (And dev would probably say "No" to that, and make it your creatures only, to simplify "what happens if you both have this out" arguments - no one enjoys resorting to apnap)
I assume this would live in a set with lots of ways of getting +1 counters; probably a mechanic named 'bless'. Flavourtext ended up more red than I'd like, but oh well.
Templating is also deliberately shoddy.
Minion of Tevesh Szat+I am the Night
Mashup of Supposing Sphinx and Trickery Charm. Sort of.
The red one will be "Fickle Charm. Choose one at random." Not sure about the other colours yet :)
Been too long away!
so I immediately roll.... Nevinyrral's Disk and Galbatorix, Alagaësian Warlord
Well, this card, whatever it is, is going to be both mythic and unpronouncable. And cost 4 mana.
Nevs disk, of course, blows everything up. Mister unpronouncable is a reasonbly heft soldier-lord; who grants.... wow: "Whenever this creature becomes blocked, you may have it deal damage equal to its power to each creature blocking it. If you do, it assigns no combat damage this turn"
So firstest multi-strike to all blocking soldiers.
So a red blow everything up?
Territorial Baloth + Druidic Primalist
