And yeah "Added power" is kinda sort "damaging creatures" :) Close enough to make me come up with this mash, anyway. And I strongly suspect my "would discard this" wording is STILL wrong.
I thought madness was "If you're discarding this, pay its madness cost to get the following effect" That's what I intend there, anyway. Also wow, misremembered how crap RoR was. Changing. Still striclty better than RoR, but.. yeah. For good reason.
The
was in common between the source cards, but it's a shame to lose it - but you're right, this is more fun.
Does that mean:
> Madness
When ~ ETBs, if its madness cost was paid, ~ deals 2 damage to target creature.
(See Grave Scrabbler, which I think is the only time this has been done.)
Do you also mean for it to be sacrificed if the madness cost was paid, or not? I can't quite tell from your... concise wording there ;)
BTW, Raider's Axe doesn't include discarding cards or damaging creatures... Wrong link? Ahh, you mean Raider's Axe. Heh: duplicate card name :)
BTW2, Granite Shard is a Rod of Ruin variant that charges
(like the original Rod) or
. Getting the effect for just
per turn seems slightly too strong to me - I still use Granite Shard in casual decks. BICBW.
Meteor Storm + Raider's Axe
Hmm, both involve discarding cards. They both cause damage to creatures. Shock-on-madness seems a likely candidate.
And so we end up with a rod of ruin variant.
Or indeed, "
: Viashino Slayer gains deathtouch and trample until end of turn. (This works in the most awesome way you could hope for)" :)
New Oracle Wording for Viashino Slayer:

: Viashino Slayer gains deathtouch and trample until end of turn. (See Rule 702.18b)
I like the current version a lot: it's a simple execution, but it makes a new card which is simple but really interesting.
I think wizards have avoided "deathtouch + trample" because it's slightly surprising how it works: AIUU it deals one point of damage to each blocker, and the remainder to the defending player. But that's also really cool, so I think there will be a card like that eventually, and on an activated ability of an uncommon is a good place for it.
I really like the idea of a cycle of these guys in the common slot...
Viashino Grappler + Slay
My first mash-up. I figure I can go two ways: creature or burn spell. The burn spell would be something finicky plus have a green restriction; no good. A creature with activated trample that kills green creatures? Or, both could activated together, leading to synergy!
Oh, the Weatherlight itself! Haha. Yes indeed, it was an awesome skyship and it probably did have an anchor. I missed that connection.
I think this'd be more flavourful as an Anchor if you kept the doesn't-untap, but bumped the cost up to about 4. It'd still often compare reasonably to Icy.
remove 'stays tapped' part; so it's no longer so useful against pingers
Yeah - my problem is that I look at Mind Stone and see Sol Ring and think "Ok, next!"
Mind stone is from the weatherlight set; which is a big ship, no? I'm sure there's some "While this stays tapped so does that" stuff; I guess it's mostly critters though. You're right that at the very least this should have a cost to use though; which unfortunately would make it unusable as a mana source. Time for a rethink methinks.
FWIW, Mind Stone is very good. Being able to cantrip your mana source away once you're done with it is huge. See how hard they had to nerf Horizon Canopy to stop it being an auto-4-of in mono-white or mono-green decks.
I'm also not sure where the "ship" bit comes from on Mind Stone.
This seems like a rather stonkingly good Icy Manipulator. It can't hit lands, but it can keep pingers / looters tapped! Compare with Tumble Magnet and I think it's clear this ability needs to cost more than
, sadly.
The flavour is great though.
Mind Stone + Crow's Nest
CMC2 Uncommon artifact. Beyond that... we've got an untapper and a less than great cantripping mana source.
Both do share ships in common, so there's flavour at least. What ship things can I come up with...
Image of a boat of goblins beached; one has a chain around its leg, dragging it back towards the sea.
Yeah, I admit, I misread that. It's a cool thought, but this card has a lot going on with it, and the idea will probably be ignored by, then confuse people who play it.
I think most of my and Alex's comments have more to do with the brokenness of
than any real balancing issue. If you really wanted to make the activation hard, you'd add another 5 in there, and ask for ~ to sacrifice 5 permanents. But who wants that?
I just wish there was a way to stop this guy before he went nuts. Something like 'When this creature is targeted by a spell or ability, it gains summoning sickness until end of turn'. You obviously can't add that line of text without getting screams of anguish... but, on some combo creatures, the idea of it would be nice.
I think it'd be saner as a 5/5 for 5 that (un)taps for 3.
Oh, wow, "its" colours? I didn't even notice that bit. I assume jmg misread it as well in the same way I did, "any combination of colours". Might do better to say "that creature's colours" to alleviate the misreading.
Well, the five mana was because of all the fives on the source cards; it's probably a lot saner at 3/3 for
and
. A cost on the ability would stop it going infinite; but yeah, wouldn't stop the "Ok, that's big enough, boom" effect.
I think you at least need a third creature; as it can't add mana from itself (no colours to select) I think. Maybe it doens't work that way and needs 'another' adding.
And I deliberately made it an artifact to make it easy to get rid of :)
To be fair, this creature auto-kills with a Hermetic Study, two other creatures and a Blaze. By the time you've made an infinite combo, you've probably tried too hard.
That's fascinating. Looks like one heck of an engine. I can't quite see the breaking combo off the top of my head, but adding 5 mana sounds like there's got to be one.
Presence of Gond lets this tap for an insane amount of mana (5). 5 mana does seem like a bit too much; I'm sure this'd be worth keeping even at 3.
Elemental Mastery goes somewhat insane on this. Infinite mana plus infinite hasty tokens. But then, I think that card does go infinite on Grimgrin, Corpse-Born as well...
Grimgrin, Corpse-Born + ((C3266))
Huge non-untapping creature eating, zombie. Has 5's on it, +1 counters. And a 5-cost mana-making artifact.
This is just crying out for an Ashnod's Altar-alike.
Now, obviously needs some way to limit the abuse, but don't want to make a stompy creature you have to tap... let's make you need to attack or something.
Sadly, although it empowers sunburst; it can't feed off of it.
Storm Shaman + Feral Outcast
Firebreathing, block bypass ability. 2/2, 0/4, Wolf Barbarian Cleric. Red and green. Kinda all over the place, there. I guess we can make a pyromancer, or a spikeshot out of it? ame... I'm so tempted to make a wolf-storm of this. But let's try and pretend to pretend sanity for a while :)
Yeah, was explicitly setting it up to be comboable. I'd like the natural use to be sane though.
Heh. For maximum value, Coboe with Mycosynth Lattice and Sensory Deprivation (or Hydrosurge. Just once is brutal).
Oh; and, uh, it hits the victim of the deforestation; not the perpetrator. Ooops!
