Well, I suppose the really potent thing to do with this guy is to match him with Armageddon effects. Since that's rare nowadays, though, I don't think it's much of a problem.
It does make a player with Violent Ultimatum squirm, though, huh? Especially if you're packing a bunch of planeswalkers...
Interesting. Definitely better than your other idea. Note for others: Erosion had been called ?Creature Support, right up until I realized I had a card prefaced with a question mark.
Kitsune Palliator + Erosion
A samite healer for everything, and a destroy everything that aint a creature. (Well, all tapped lands and one land per non-creature you want to save, anyhow)
Tap to regenerate all non-creature? It sounds strong; but it's almost always identical to "Regenerate non-creature" which is pretty rarely useful. About the only other thing I can see getting from a mix is a wrath on a stick.
So, the first idea I think.
Awwww.
I remember the reasons given in: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/arcana/217
and yeah, camouflage was just "Too confusing, bye bye" But hey, at least we got Shatterstorm out of it.
Oddly, False Orders (which also let you change blocking) was just "Cycled out, it might come back" - seems odd. But I guess they hadn't made the whole "Look, let's just kill banding, ok?" decision yet.
Ooh... you almost trolled me into talking about why some cards were pulled from 4th. I'm not falling for it that easy.
By the way... nice card. I'd like it even more if I wasn't jealous. ;)
Gets a bit more fiddly if I add the "That it can legally block" or some kind of "Attempts to block" but yes. I quite like this one. Probably not game breakingly awesome, but kinda intriguing and might see some play. Which is where I usually try to aim.
Although getting one of the banned-from-fourth cards and ending up with this is amusing. (It never really made sense for camo to be in the power-nine set, I think it was just the complexity, really)
Crosslink to Maze of Ith as a comparison (and name stealing, obviously) I figured camouflage involved jungles. So it's kinda unofficially a 3-way mash ;)
I misremembered; Maze doesn't tap for mana. So this jungle may actually be too good (but then again, the blocker you redirect still blocks SOMETHING and could end up doing nasty things to your attackers, and it's blockers not attacks so it's not as much of a mousetrap... maybe.)
Nice! The ability from General Jarkeld on a land, except that it's random rather than your choice. Remarkably simple rules text. I've never been quite sure how much use General Jarkeld's ability would be, because I've never expected it to be good enough to be worth putting in a deck. But the marginal cost of putting in a colourless-producing land into a deck is very low, so this would likely see play in some aggressive decks. It's no Contested War Zone, but it's got potential to screw with blockers. And it is as you say impressively simple.
add rarity.
Camouflage + Hilltop Shrine
Well, for once it's the official card that's ridiculous. Especially since it pretty much boils down to: "This turn, assign blockers randomly"
And, uh, we appear to have a card from multiverse that contains nothing but flavourtext. So, hmmm. I think we can make this simple.
Heh; comments on that card include "It's a win condition. Play it, opponent looks at our deck and concedes"
But yeah; I suspected there'd be a way to reveal a lot of cards, didn't think it's be quite THAT many though.
Anyone for a 100-card Elder-cat-highlander deck?
Guided Passage, consider yourself useful for once.
And then your opponent has to pick from the non-Cat cards to give you.
Ok, has lost the "return a creature" part now. More interesting? Certainly harder to get going. Fun for punishing "Reveal target player's hand, do something evil to a card in it" too.
remove the entire trigger - now you have to find some other way to reveal cats. But hey, when you do, awesome!

Hee, yes, this would be fun with Conspiracy or Artificial Evolution.
Umph. True. Probably needs at least a tap cost in there to stop it just sweeping your side of the table before you throw a wrath, too. Though that does lose the whole "Hey, I set up a combo, arranged my deck, and now; Cat, cat to hand, cat, cat to hand, cat, cat to hand, cat ...., cat, swing, win" silliness.
Hmm. Perhaps you should always keep the top card of library revealed? Then you can pay for the cat by returning Future Cat to your hand? This way seems good, too, though. It's just... well, it will be used more as a way to return etb creatures to your hand than to get free cats off the library. After all, even in a cat tribal deck, revealing a cat will be hard. Have a deck that has only 8 cats in it, and you'll be whiffing all day.
Fleetfoot Panther + Future Diary
Upgrade a creature into a cheap cat, at instant speed, meet... Mad casting spree, of zero-cost stuff but lose if it gets countered.
So very very tempted to say "The correct thing to do in this mash is take all of the panther and ignore all of the very silly diary"
Ok, ok. Casting cost zero is certainly involved here. Some element of risk is involved here.
Ugh; my first attempt was: "As an additional cost to cast a cat creature, you may sacrifice any number of other creatures you control. If you do, that spell has flash, and its casting cost is reduced by 1 for each creature sacrificed in this way."
... words words words words words. Blarg.
Ok, how about future-sight for cats? That's kinda quirky. Something like? "0: Reveal the top card of your library. If it's a cat, you may cast it."
Ah, got it. Still too many words, though. Blue for the future and the pretty background; probably should have stayed pure green, green does get critter accel of this sort.
Oooh. I liked Raven Guild Initiate's dabbling in the waters of not-necessarily-bad morph costs, but this is much more fun. Nice.
Venomspout Brackus + Phytomancer
Hah! For once, multiverse gives me the sensible card (a llanowar variant) and it's the real card that goes bonkers. Ok, we've got morph, we've got a condtional creature destruction, and we've got untapping and gaining mana.
Clearly, since both sources are, it needs to be a green creature. And Venomancer leaps out at me.
Tell you what, let's just take the morph part and make an elf that can be used for a double-pump once, or used as a 2/2 if you want a slightly larger chump.
Yeah, I was trying to avoid that as being complicated and terrifying.
I'd have expected the equip cost and firebreathing cost to be the other way around. Equip
, say, and "Sacrifice a permanent: Equipped creature gets +1/+1 UEOT." Now that's a spicy equipment. Doomy, very much "red all-in", exciting, swings the game one way or the other. Should obviously be rare.
Vulshok Morningstar + Apocalypse Blast
... a sane (but quite powerful) piece of equipment, meets... "Game over, I win"
Ok, I see a way to do this. The red doom becomes a firebreathing variant; the sacrifice stays on as a cost; and the morningstar contributes "Is sane equipment" and "Oh heck, be symetrical"
I'm really not sure how to cost it, though. Gut feeling says 4, so let's try 4.
I wanted to recommend: "Equipped creature gets +4/+0, and its toughness becomes 1." But realized how silly that looks. Bah. I'd do it.
