Hold it. Did no one notice that we have this mechanic and fortifications in the design file? That's awesome! It's like we did that intentionally! I know the basic premise it fiddly, but by the time you've added a third layer, the rule of three kicks in and says "Yeah, you know what? Why don't you get trample, activate your fortification and cast a spell at the same time."
So, at this point, I'm pretty sure that we should have at least two of these cards in the common slot, so that when we build the theme decks, Green can have access to a few fortifications, these, creatures, +1/+1 counters and Fungus, and players will get to choose which direction they want to take their decks in.
Changed this creature to a 0/1 for
which makes a world of a difference in my mind. You'd think that my previous argument would be used against this card for one mana cheaper, but it's sitting in a much different slot now: The 1-drop aggro slot contrasting the 1-drop control/mid-game slot that Sprouting Nymph sits in.
Added:
Also thinking about Venomspore Sower and Simple Fungus with a minor tweak that makes a big difference for me.
I updated Alex's submission, adding Bud, and simplifying the Dead-Iron Sledge ability to a um... kind of a Smite ability... more of one half of the sledge? Oh, and I increased the casting cost because this is still one hella good common at
. I keep forgetting that these guys can always target themselves... I don't know about you.
This looks like common material to me now, but the ability is probably red, black or white. I don't know if there's any precedent for this ability specifically, though (reminds me of Kill-Suit Cultist but, no, no... it ain't that either). Do we think we can bleed for this, or should we try again?
Since Bud is now a keyword, and "Bud, bud" was a possible way of writing it out, I wanted to see a basic version of it.
Changed the two fungus abilities to the new keyword "Bud". Also added a tricky activation cost to make sure players had a way to work around this scary common. Also also removed the flavor text, since creatures with Bud are too wordy to keep them. For the record, it was: "Camouflage-for predators as well as prey."
Since it's been a couple of days, I'm going to change everything to Bud and let people complain about this later if the want. I'm not a fan of having the keyword have both a trigger and an ongoing effect, but that's only because it's rare to see that happen, not because it is inherently bad.
Oh, no. I like this guy. Obviously the ability already appears in Magic on the card Masako the Humorless, which leads me to believe that this card isn't really red, since the ability feels more like vigilance. Actually, what if we made this card white, and left it as a sleeper card that secretly worked with all in? It seems to have the strangeness that our mono-white creatures carry...
As for the way it's worded, I think we need two sentences. Just because it can only block if it is tapped, doesn't mean that it can block if it is tapped. That's like having a non-flying creature have the text "This creature can only block flying creatures". It doesn't really do anything.
Interesting - it's going to quite quickly become big enough that you'll want to block it; and doing so only makes things worse...
If there's anyway of directly harnessing power, or of gifting trample in set, this is going to be terrifying.
But, well, it's a cost 6 rare. So that's probably allowed. And it does take a couple of turns to become really dangerous.
Lovely flavour. I agree creatures should come back. Maybe it should only exile one of its blockers, so that there's SOME way to deal with it directly (assuming you have a pair of 4/x blockers...)
ROFL. That's great. I agree it's difficult if we want to avoid +1/+1 counters, I'm not sure what's best. I hope we may be able to simplify this a bit further while keeping the flavour.
Yeah, feel free to change it :)
Can it have a less silly name? :)
Probably shouldn't be printed, but another idea of how to make "all-in" matter in red :)
The "≈" in Link's comment breaks down in certain places. I suspect one of them is with mana acceleration. Land Aid '04 is a lot worse than Cultivate.
Wacky, wordy, yet fun.
I don't know. With Farhaven Elf in existence, don't you only use Wood Elves nowadays in mono-green anyway? You know, assuming you aren't illegally playing with Skullclamp and aren't equipping Skullclamp to the Wood Elf using the forest it got. Man, that was insane. Also, I just disproved myself.
Why not make it 1/1?
≈
, right? That makes it sort of like Wood Elves. Though maybe not in this case, since, as you said, it's like it only costs
. In a way, this is like a hasted Llanowar Elves with vigilance... which triggers landfall... okay, that's a bad comparison.
