Like the blue commons submissions, I'd like a list of things we need instead of a skeleton to determine what to choose for my submissions. Unlike the blue submissions, though, it's hard to tell what White needs, besides the basics, and a number of cards that like enchantments.
So, outside of things like number of creatures, Demystify type spell (do we want this?), and the rest of the basic White stuff, what must be in the White common slot? Are Crusade style effects automatic? Have we fully explored what can be done with Auras? How many Auras are a good idea? Is there an Oblivion Ring sub-theme? How many cards need that, or is the minimum amount of O-Ring cards 0?
The answer to a lot of these questions, from me at least is "I'm not sure". And it may not matter, either. I don't remember Esper having that strong a mechanical identity either, but it still felt like it hung together.
Yeah, I agree with the no Lifelink thing. On common, I'm always going to advertise the simplest execution unless complexity adds something to the card, and Lifelink wouldn't feel like it added anything... just made the card better/more complex.
Plus, this is a nice effect. It would be better if we showcased it, instead of hiding it.
Here is my own submission. Two cards in one slot means either could go there.

Sorry, had to stop in the middle. I'll come back later to finish.
For White Commons Submissions. Name subject to change. Ajani's Mantra on a creature. Would also giving this lifelink be too much for common?
For White Commons Submissions. Not sure on the P/T.
Changed P/T.
Changed P/T.
For White Commons Submissions. Permutations on what other creatures get the bonus would also work. This and Aurora Weaver echo Veteran Swordsmith and Veteran Armorsmith.

I know we haven't really finished discussing blue commons, but I couldn't help myself. I'll start with what a general white skeleton might look like in this set. I'm sure it will be up for revision, but I might as well give it a try.

I'm not sure whether we should go for 9 or 10 creatures. Finding intriguing flash enchantments for common to replace instants is going to be difficult, though.
EDIT: Okay, I'm realizing all of the things I missed. I don't remember whether we decided to use dedication or not, but there should be a strong color commitment card somewhere.
You think we might be able to get another community to help us out with this? Can we waltz over to DeviantArt (when we're finished) and start asking for artwork? The quality of the work that comes back may not be pretty, but free art tailored to specs is kind of cool in any capacity...
I'm confident that we can come up with a different type of evasion, if we feel blue needs it. I kind of like the idea of blue smashing in there for once, but I admit, it will feel weird to some players, and it may not have the correct amount of creatures at common to pull it off. I'll think about blue evasion tricks.
"If we have too many Islandwalkers, I fear that many players won't see what we're doing as something new"
Hm. I hadn't thought of it like that. I would certainly be happy with some other sort of evasion (even pseudo-evasion like "tap target creature"), and worry that having a lot of islandwalk with no way to remove flood counters will be a bit non-interactive. But I didn't have any other good ideas for blue-style evasion. If we do, I think having a variety of effects fits the set at least as well (a couple of islandwalk is probably still good for the sea theme). But if we don't, I think islandwalk is better than giving blue creatures no evasion -- what else would they do? :)
Do you think the problem is that it is too much a small effecient beater? If we threw in an ineffecient 8cc Leviathan common, would it also feel bad?
I admit, I've never been too fond of this restriction, either. But I do relish having a set where a mechanic that I would normally be annoyed with, suddenly has some meaning. Or in other words, I never liked that Terror and company had that anti-black clause. But I'd look forward to seeing multiple Terror variants if we were in a set that commonly changed the colors of creatures.
I certainly understand, though, that I am a weird duck, and the things that make me happy, commonly don't make other people happy.
On a side note, I'm none too thrilled with a the thought process that blue should get 3x Islandwalk to make up for the lack of flying. I've got a bunch of reasons for this, but the one that keeps getting to me is: "That's what they did in Lorwyn." I think we came at the whole "give my opponents Islands, now Islandwalk" trick from two different angles, but we're coming close to ending up in the same ground. If we have too many Islandwalkers, I fear that many players won't see what we're doing as something new, and that we're just adding some more cards that belong to Lorwyn, and for some reason we decided not to make them Merfolk.
Hm. I do know a few actually - several of the artists for Sweatdrop Studios (wp) are friends of mine, and they can do excellent non-manga style art as well. Although my closest artist friend, the one who did the art for my three visual novels, may be somewhat wary of doing more art for me given that I haven't yet finished one game for which she did loads of art over a year ago... :-S
D'oh. Yes, of course.
nope, okay, I'll fix it the other way
try to fix the mechanic
