The name's spelled wrong, it should be Sheriff.
Should read: "W, T, Discard a card: Prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to target creature this turn. If an artifact card was discarded, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each 1 damage prevented this way."
I actually wanted it to stay as 2/2. I remember flavor wise that people liked Aristocrats as being 'untouchable' until they attack; similarly, when Pirates are in hiding they can't be found, and when they attack they lose that cover and start flying on their airships. 2U for Common that can't be blocked is pushing it, and there's a lot of artwork for Steampunk Pirates on skyships. Voila, perfect solution.
One of Comicalflop's suggestions in the creative thread was to change this to "Sky Pirate" replacing unblockable with flying and shrinking it to a 1/1 for . Since one of the things we've been wanting to do is get more of the Splinter into the set it seems like an ideal change.
Forest breathing that can also give trample? It's not great; I can see it being useful sometimes though. Still; probably not worth being common unless twobrid-marginal is a theme you want pushed.
Yeah I understand that all sets will have some "marginal" cards, even if I don't necessarily agree with that line of reasoning that says they have to exist. Look at Innistrad for example, even its "Chaff" was playable in a niche deck. I know Innistrad is the exception but it's still an important exception to remember.
I just think that we might be able to put another common aura in this slot that might better push the Mono-Green deck its was originally intended to help.
Every set needs some stinkers. But you should at least be consciously choosing to make this a stinker if that's what you're doing.
Can we talk about this card? It feels both wordy and less than useful for a common.
It's a common. I'm ok with it being a little bit underpowered. Its a simple card that plays up the colorless theme of the set. It'll still get play in limited as it is.
Untapping four lands was scary overpowered. This seems fairer. And a sigle mana hard counter with no restrictions but a minor drawback? Far too good again. I could see it at though.
Since it's unlikely you'll be able to get much use from the mana as compared to when you cast Rewind from M13, how about this instead?
[U]
Counter target spell. It's controller adds mana to his or her mana pool.
That way it becomes like Remand. If you play it at the right moment, they might not be able to use the mana. Play it at the wrong time, and they will.
To anyone who hasn't yet seen, a new poster named ComicalFlop has found a ton of great art for the set. Head over to the creative thread on MTGS to see his work.
Here's a suggestion:
U
Enchanted creature doesn't untap during it's controller's untap step.
2: Return Chancellor's Conscription to its owner's hand. Only any opponent may activate this ability.
The card works like Ad Nauseam, so the wording should be similar.
"Exile target creature you control, then return that card to the battlefield under your control. You may repeat this process X number of times."
Fights are specifically between two creatures, so using that wording would require changing how fights work. I would prefer to use the slightly wordier version that doesn't involve redefining game terms.
Thanks for the wording fix.
Considering artifacts in graveyards is a theme in this set, particularly in red, I don't feel it's too far off.
I agree this is a bit too complex for common. I'm open to changing it.
Removed Flying
I swear this card didn't used to have flying. I'm just going to drop it and everything should be fine.
In general I prefer white to be better at killing enchantments than artifacts, but like Scars of Mirrodin this card would play an important role. This set has even less artifact density, so I don't expect this card to cause too many problems.
Even at that cost, I think that is too cheap for that much power.
Corrected reprint error
It is not a functional reprint, but an actual one. Thanks for the correction.
Possibly change the to, "Oozy fights target creature, using loyalty instead of power. If that creature would die this turn, exile it instead."
It uses current tech adapted.
Minor formatting thing: It should be "...+1/+0 for each artifact card in...".
Also, should it be checking all graveyards? Seems like a lot to keep track of.
Blue gets stonking bears at , certainly. Izzet Guildmage, Grimoire Thief, Tidebinder Mage, and so on. But even with the power allowed on a 2/2 for , there's never been a 2/x flyer for 2 mana without a largish drawback. (In blue, that is. White, being the best colour at weenies rather than the worst, gets it with upside: Kor Aeronaut.)
Even though Revoke Existence was printed in Scars of Mirrodin block?
It's essentially a conditional, slow Unsummon, not exactly something that is known to commonly break standard (not without a Snapcaster being involved, that is).
