Right?
Anyone?
Fair enough. It reads more clunkily to me than just plain "Can't be blocked" but I can see the symmetry now you point it out.
@Vitenka Having a tapped and untapped condition makes it aesthetically pleasing through symmetry. Mechanically it rarely matters.
The "tapped" rider turns off the hexproof part on top while turning on "unblockable". "Can't be blocked" is the new wording for unblockable.
Then why not just "Is unblockable"; why the "When tapped" rider?
No.
Is giving your opponents creatures vigilance going to be a thing?
Aristocrat is great. As long as he doesn't act aggressively he enjoys diplomatic immunity, but if he attacks you get to take him out with a removal spell. I really like him as is. With the right art and flavor text he'll make a perfect common, although maybe a 1/1 might be more fair.
There was Shatter in both sets, and enchantments were not really a big thing. It will be a high pick (and a great combat trick with Modular), but I vote Naturalize.
Not that I don't love this card, but do we really want to do layers at common? It gets messy when attached to an artifact creature (not too messy, but messy enough that at common it will raise many rules questions for newer players.)
I don't like cards like this which pull you in two separate directions. On the one hand, its PT suggest it should be attacking, but the activated ability suggests you should hold it back. When you add in the "artifact card" clause I think that results in too much complexity for common. MOON-E mentioned being wary of the complexity creep of the spellslingers at common; perhaps if you kept the common ones to the "simple" spellshaper template, then perhaps added a cycle of the "If an artifact card was discarded..." ones at uncommon. Also, suit the PT to the ability. If it must be attacking, you could always give it vigilance.
I second the scaling +1/+0 for artifacts in the graveyard. That makes for cool moments and lets this be a fun build-around uncommon for Limited. First strike sounds like a little much to me, but testing could prove me wrong.
It's a glum industrial wasteland with backward laws and corrupt authorities dominated by cruel tycoons.
It's a place.
I can't make out what "Darge" means.
I like the scaling. I'll always take a lhurgoyf over a threshold, because it can get super epic. Getting a 10/3 for 4 mana in limited is that story the Timmy in me craves, it makes counting the cards in my graveyard less of a chore and suddenly super exciting. Boneyard Wurm is a recent card that made me super excited.
Are you guys agreeing to the scaling +1/+0 per artifact in the graveyard or to a flat +1/+0 for just having any one artifact in the graveyard?
+1/+0 and first strike is pretty cool.
Possibly, I kinda like that idea. Maybe he should just have first strike and get +1/+0, or potentially double strike and start at 0 power?
That's the kind of thing I was thinking.
We could flavor it as a simply loony assistant. "He does good work, but I wish he would stop courting the steamflux converter during his lunch hour."
If we want to go with it getting a bigger buff for more artifacts shouldn't we go more exact scaling instead? i.e. "Taurox Scrapdiver gets +1/+0 for each artifact in each graveyard."
Depends on how you flavor it. Deranged Assistant might work flavor-wise if we imply a Lovecraftian horror of some kind but I seem to recall us not wanting that (too close to the eldrazi or something, I can't recall exactly) and that being the reason we had gone with the current design.
I think there was a flavor reason.
Is there a reason this couldn't just be Deranged Assistant? Or do people feel that's too far disconnected from steampunk flavor?
Ferron is slower if all you're trying to do is steal permanents, but hardly feels worse overall. His first ability can help you or other players ramp or increase your artifact count, as well as set up lands to be stolen or blow up. His second ability can also be used to untap artifacts you already own, and untapping an artifact while stealing it is still pretty powerful. Most importantly, both Ferron and his abilities cost much less than Memnarch, so while he may be slower he comes down a lot earlier. From a commander perspective, the fact he's both blue and black is more of a positive than a negative. So I don't really see a problem with him, he's not as good at doing what Memnarch does, but he's fine at doing what he does.
Changed the middle ability to the fight ability, changed the last ability to the -X ooze maker.
I think the problem is that it has three abilities, not necessarily that the last one is bad. Personally I'd be fine even if this were the only card that cared.
We already have a few cards that reward you for having artifacts in your graveyard, but having this get a bigger buff for going deep (and having many artifacts in your graveyard) would help the archetype.
I don't think so but then again look at my user name on this one. I think I've made a couple of accounts with different email addresses because I've got so many passwords and keep forgetting which one are used where.
Anyway, I've got this one saved to my desktop's main browser so its only a problem when im not at my desktop.
