I've always liked these cards, but I seem to be in the minority on that one.
Nice to know.
Well I mean, there are rares that kill creatures every turn for free, this one costs you cards and mana, so I don't think it's overpowered or anything.
For instance, I can't see this being constructed playable, and it's small size means it's also easy to deal with in limited.
There's also precedent in Visara the Dreadful and Avatar of Woe. Though even they don't repeatedly gain control of creatures. What does... Beguiler of Wills?
Actually, yeah, there's an idea. This could just be a mythic.
Can we have the flavor text be "The future will be better today. "
Changed to 1/1
You mean like Gideon Jura? ;P
The real reason is that the 0 ability references exiled cards, and both of the other abilities exile cards. If the 0 ability was in the center, then players might accidentally think it only referenced the first ability instead of both.
The reason it starts out small is that this is a modular creature, so the extra counters don't just make this bigger but also add to the counter pool for all artifact creatures.
Basically, I fear that with so many modular creatures we're going to reach a critical mass where it's impossible to deal with them.
That's what I thought... except these aren't phytohydras, so I don't really get it.
For what it's worth, I've never really like how these diverge from the normal Spellslinger template. Spellshapers never really diverged that much from the normal template for those card, the only time being with the Rare cycle from prophecy requiring two cards instead of one.
Something like this would be more appropiate in [Steam] or [Ahead] than as a Common in Archester.
I think we might want to think about scraping this particular design and coming up with another similar design. Maybe we can put up a "hole-filling" post in the CCC forum over on salvation and see what they can come up with.
There is some precedent in Notorious Assassin, although maybe a murder every turn is a bit much.
That's a seriously scary ability. Every single card you draw is a murder? And some of them are control magic? Yow.
I believe that he's a 2/2. That's just from memory though I could be misremembering.
The "lands in graveyards" theme is in black, more specifically
. The Black half of
deals with sac'ing/destroying lands, while the Blue is alters the mana they produce either by changing thier types or by making them produce only colorless mana.
What colors is the "lands in graveyards matter" theme again? I ask because I would like this as a red ritual, but could see it as black if that's where the theme needs it to be.
Typo, I think. Shouldn't this be "Splinterpainter"?
Yeah, this is pretty underwhelming compared to Rushwood Elemental.
Mm, like Viscerid Drone and a few other creatures from that era.
I just generated a booster and I got 6 cards that deal direct damage to creatures and players. (Self Destruct Button, Spellslinger's Creed, Throttle Gnomes, (((Timed Explosives))), Steam Release and Buckshot.) Just 1 booster, but as-fan seems high.
PT missing.
I'd second that, but i'd make it a 1/1 with "Machine Legion Commander gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control."
I don't think you read the card. It sacrifices itself, so you can only use it once. Strong yes but not that ridiculous.
That seems way too good. Making everything a Squadron Hawk should be pretty expensive. That's ridiculous card advantage.
I think the "you may pay" part if left over from one of the earlier designs as there is nothing to pay on the card as is.
Also, I still love this card. :D
Since this is a human and not an artifact shouldn't it be 1+(Star)/1+(Star) instead of (Star)/(Star)? He'd died if there were no artifacts on the battlefield as is.
Also shouldn't the /0\ cost be in the center? (Chandra, Pyromaster, Gideon, Champion of Justice, Jace, Memory Adept, etc...)
I'll have to see if i can dig it up. It's probably buried somewhere in the flavor thread.
I think that was because of our common Wrench, since it can untap artifacts.
