Demolish + Application Error + Application Error + Fell Awakening
Destroy a land or artifact; and animate a land into something big.
So.. a huge artifact animation? In red? We can do that, by making it a one shot. This is basically a lava-axe with more style. Give it a verb-sounding name. ... Ok, this is a really REALLY good name. I'd want this reserved for a better card with this theme.
How provocatively can we cost it? It does cost an artifact, but Lightning Elemental suggests it still needs to be 4.
I like the idea of winning by having a dragon hoard things. Especially since it can be a horde of goblins.
Which leads us to discover that the number of hordes, a dragon would hoard; is twenty. Nifty.
Well I guess it's that card too. I didn't know about that card when I made this card.
Oh I expected one of the parent cards to be Hellkite Tyrant
Clickslither and Laboratory Maniac.
Ceta Sanctuary + Application Error + Venom Clamp Ukari
Blue green red loot and draw. How odd. It's the home land of the... merfolk volver. Obviously? Combine with... a fungus that is an expensive repeatable kill as long as you're tribal.
Tribal looting? Could do.
Glacial Revelation + Kia’atoa Voyager
Gisa and Geralf + Metalic Cat
A pair of vampire friends; Mill 4; gravecast zombies. And omg so cute robotcat lifelink!
Sooo, clearly we come to robot cat and best friends
Whenevr you gain life; brnig something back from the dead. Thats a valid; right? Horryifying cyborg reanimating cats?
Mess with the type line, and we're kinda done?
Gravelhide-Hide Goblin and Crucible of Worlds
So it's a red creature with green mana pumping and an artifact that lets you play lands from the graveyard. This seemed pretty easy. I could make it more complicated but sometimes a simpler common mashup is nice.
Genju of the Falls + Lost Footing
Make an island into a crappy creature. Repeatable. And cantrip single-target-fog.
Could do a nerf that you can move onto another creature?
"Equip : Equipped creature neither deals nor receives combat damage."
Except that's probably too good at turning a utility creature into a perfect defence.
Make an land into a fog? That could work? It'd work a bit like Island Sanctuary? (Heck, I could make that card directly from this mash).
I could make a really annoying landfall card. Actually; since you'd mainly want to use it on an opponents turn, maybe not so annoying, since you need some way to get those lands into play off-turn?
Or we could just turn a cretaure into a land. That's the more unusual, so I'm going that way.
Essence Sliver + ^Nattao R Common
Lifelink sliver; ETB HateScry3.
Sliverscry? What; reveal cards from a sliver's deck? All slivers gain etb-scry works but I think I did that already.
Reveal sliver from deck? Sure, why not.
... I just mashed two creatures together and came up with a sorcery. Admittedly, one that will summon 0-3 creatures. But even so.
How the heck do you costa monstrous thing like this? It might do nothing of use. It might summon the three best slivers you own. Well; let's at least let you re-arrange the top of your deck in the bad case, rather than exiling them. Or maybe exiling three non-sliver cards IS the positive use?
I'm gonna guess it cosst 4. And is... greenish? Red for the random nature?
Thronvald Thallid did it first. That was SecretInfiltrator
Cleansing Nova + Flood Memory
Huh. Multimodalwrath. And counter-back-into-deck.
That makes a mass recall; then.
Huh. You've turned culmulative upkeep into tide counters. Itneresting.
Thornvald Thallid and Sky Weaver
Angry Mob + Infantry Tactician
One of the weirder colour-hate cards. 2/2 except on attack, when it's "Enemy Swamp+2". Oh the-dark, what an oddball of a set you truly were. And a 2/2 that can let you draw cards if you target it.
Guess Im making an oddball 2/2, then. At least partly white. I like the 'if targetted' thing. Let's go with something defensive on it.
Benalish Hero + Kird Ape
Hey! One of the original weenies! With, oh gosh; I have to mash banding. Yeeeep. And then I get... from the very first expansion; one of the very first cards to migrate into the base set. Gosh.
So clearly I'm making a 1-cost common creature. A kird hero? Benalish ape? Huh; "Kird" appears not to really have much lore if any.
Eh; I think I'm making a plague-rat variant.
Wow; did I really just make a common lord? Gosh. Feels wrong. And I don't know WHAT I was thinking this isn't a 1-cost!
Kami of Ancient Law + Banners Raised
Spirit that self-destructs an enchantment. And a simple "Everything gets more power" instant.
Self destruct to throw around a bit of power? That's simple enough; and oddly didn't happen. Kami of pain is kinda close.
So kami of banners. Eh, thesaurus. And image of a ghost carrying flags is searched for and found hilarious.
Can't be common because ugh combat. Should this be just your creatures? Probably, but what the heck, make it all creatures for multiplayer shenanigans.
Well, true; it can be used as : Gain 2 life.
I hadn't really considered that. Humph. I guess he ought to cost . Those are, at least, still both cat colours.
Or alternately I need to find a different benefit for having him on your team.
These monocolored red cards that create Food tokens just don't sit right with me.
Mountain + Planeswalker
Tibalt's mountain, in case it matters; and... "Planeswalker".
Whelp; guess I'm making a red planeswalker. Specifically; Tybalt. That famous apple-merchant, totally not a member of the order of whispers, kind of hilariously bad at being a pirate, fuzzy murder-kitty.
(guildwars has some weird lore when you look at it)
So, hmm. How to turn that into a magic card? Tyb's most famous feature is apples, and making many many corny jokes about them. And he sacrifices himself to get word out about a dragon. And he was probably an engineer. As a member of the order of whispers; he does infiltration (as, yes, an apple seller).
Hmm. Temporary change of loyalty is red, right? So what I kind of want is a way to temporarily gift him to you; and then he comes back with some kind of benefit. How do we represent information? I could gift him to you and in return look at your hand, or your face-down cards?
And then, while he's with you, you can get some small benefit from him? Well what the heck - we have food tokens now. He can actually literally go over to a player and sell them apples.
So hey; looked at another way - I've filed the serial numbers off of snow-white's wicked queen, and made her into a cat. Perfect for the new fairy-tale set.
Ooops! Forgot to give a cost; just left the on that I first placed there to remind me I was making a red card. Can this cost 1? Food tokens are a pretty minimal thing, and revealing morphs is also niche. ... what the heck. It's pushed (especially at 5 loyalty) but let's leave it here. It certainly doens't want to cost more than 3 or so.
Its Makindi Sliderunner and Hunted Wumpus
Lashknife Barrier + UB03 Yaloan Slithercrest
Interesting. All your creatures get a point of armour. Which is a tiny bit more than all creatures having one more toughness; usually nothing - but combine with Pestilence for example... And a 1/4 deathtouch pinger.
Heh. They cancel each other out in an amusing way. And I could mash them together to make Samite Healer.
I think we'll instead try and make a damage reflect aura; which is after all what the first card sounds like it should be.
And I guess it's a melee reflect aura; since dealing a point of damage to a spell won't do much.
