Ah, I haven't gotten around to actually making the fortifications yet.
Some fortifications to play with. Whether we want black colored fortifications is in the air, but it seems like the easiest way to tie fortifications to the Gorgons. Also, this one sacrifices Minions, which helps keep us linear.
Like I mentioned on Black Commons Submissions, these are basically just suggestions for the themes and ideas we could explore. They still need to go through development and be considered with the rest of the set, which doesn't exist yet. Maybe this could tap and sacrifice for its ability, to give another turn. Or maybe it should be uncommon.
For black fortifications to make sense while playtesting, we need some fortifications. Link mentioned that there isn't any reason why Aer wouldn't have fortifications, too, so this is flavored mildly to belong to Aer. That seems considerably better than Darksteel Garrison, but I don't know many people who actually played the Garrison.
Made uncommon, because mucking up combat has been pushed there in the past 3 or so years.
I didn't imagine it being a slave, more like something scrounging on the side. Hence why it's starving (though a slave might be, too).
Slavers being played in a control deck? Sounds perfect.
Yeah, this doesn't search for the fortification, and it also doesn't repeatedly put things onto the battlefield. It's one time, unless you go through some shenanigans.
Ah, there's Ox Ashlar-Drawer's twin... I figured he would show up, but guessed it might happen in uncommon.
I'm trying to imagine what these cards would do with the most destructive of equipment. Round 2, put Argentum Armor into play, Round 3, cast and sac the Monument Builder, and swing with your 8/7 that destroys a land or blocker per turn. I was going to say these two seem so lowly, that any fortification you can bust out would probably be fine, but that's one crazy example.
I like the feel of these two guys, but I think two commons might stop us from making really crazy fortifications. That's probably too limiting. Common creatures that help build fortifications sounds like a great idea, though. Hmm... Maybe the fortifications require sacrifice instead?
Or it could get +1/+1 until end of turn, as well.
Heh. I also like how it disincentives your opponent from gaining control of your creature. Nifty.
With all the token creation, black looks geared to play control. I have a hard time judging cards like this, but it seems quite a bit better than a 3/2. We'll have to see how it tests.
It is possible that this costs
nowadays. Raise Dead has always been fun, but not really powerful. This seems like a good place to start, though.
I wonder if we want the Morbid trigger instead? I suppose that would drag this card into
if we did, though.
The more I think of it, the more triggering off sacrifice seems like something we can do, but only on a small number of cards. Sure, there's a numbers game reason for this, but also, I wouldn't want our black mechanics to look like a rehash of Morbid.
Non-flying spirits popped up in Kamigawa. Earth-bound spirits are probably fine. On top of that, it may be the only creature type we can give flying too, if we wanted. Spirits can't carry anything, so it wouldn't matter if they could reach Aer...
The reward should be greater. 3/3 Haste probably wasn't strong enough in black for
to begin with. I'd suggest bumping to 4/2.
Actually, that's probably as fair as they get. 4/3 for

is common now.
I like that ETB. But, yeah, probably too good. The good news is, since we'll have people playtesting it, it's probably fine for now. I'd rather impress them anyway, then underwhelm them.
Solid. A bit defensive.
Good card. Potentially busted. I suppose it doesn't matter much, since we control all the fortifications that exist, and can just make appropriate costs to fortify things. I would like the cards to be forward compatible, though, with the fortifications that wizards will someday do.
Maybe I'm overreacting, though. Stoneforge Mystic has me edgy, but this is a heck of a lot more fair than that.
Ach! What? No Harpies?
I suppose we may be better off, since they'd probably make bad minions anyway. Plus, might have been too good. Maybe. Tough to tell. I do know I haven't seen black do 1/1 flying for
yet.
Well, I figured we could do something different with Multi, but yes, it is roughly it's own color.
Ah! You've beaten me to the punch Link! Time to roll up the sleeves and give people more options. I think I'm just going to add cards to the file, as opposed to making a full skeleton. That being said, these cards are intended to work within a skeleton frame.
Then it couldn't get colorless creatures. Not that that's bad, but then it could probably be
.
Perhaps have "Destroy target white, blue, green or red creature"? :) I'm not sure of the cost.
The numbers are by no means set in stone.
This seems somewhat under whelming for CCC. This should be a huge incentive to play mono red. We have seen that 3/3 for 2G is ok at common, and even though green does get bigger creatures then red, most times I will want a plain 3/3 more.
