For Black Commons Submissions.
This card presents an interesting problem, because we wanted to have zero flying in the monocolors. Harpies are such a perfect fit for flavor, though, and I can't picture them without flying. I guess we should do away with harpies and make this another creature type.

Ach! What? No Harpies?

I suppose we may be better off, since they'd probably make bad minions anyway. Plus, might have been too good. Maybe. Tough to tell. I do know I haven't seen black do 1/1 flying for {b} yet.

I didn't imagine it being a slave, more like something scrounging on the side. Hence why it's starving (though a slave might be, too).

I think we can't have flyers in monocolour. If we're saying gold does flying, we should stick to that. Also, black has never got a Flying Men before, so giving it one with a benefit seems a bit mad. How about making this a "Clipped-Wing Harpy" without flying?

I'm fine with that. I mostly made this to talk about harpies.

I like the idea of harpies as "we used to be the bad-ass fliers but now the Aer came along and literally clipped our wings, so now we take it out on OUR slaves, even as we're oppressed by the Aer." And we'll have non-flying harpies with appropriate flavour, and maybe we'll start to have some flying harpies in a hypothetical set 2.

But I don't know if that's just because I like the flavour of harpies and can't think of a better non-flying race.

Hmm. I wonder what the mechanic of "I used to fly" is? Maybe it's extra spiteful to flying creatures? Maybe it flys in its dreams? "If Starving Harpy flies, it dies". I don't know.

Black creatures can't have flying. I changed it to Defender and Reach to represent what a harpy that's been chained to the ground might be like. Black doesn't get reach... I'm aware of this. I'm wondering, however, if the team thinks that the flavor here might make this one card an exception.

Meanwhile changed p/t and cc and will probably do it again when I figure out where this card fits in the file. Most importantly, this card jumped from gaining 1 life to gaining 2 life. In Black Commons Submissions I mentioned that if we're going to have a minor sacrifice theme, the cards that like sacrifices needed to have some oompf. In my opinion, Deathgreeter doesn't cut it.

Reach seems a good idea to me. If black normally gets a few fliers, getting a reach creature instead seems reasonable, and it very much fits the flavour.

I generally support the knocking into shape you've suggested on other cards too.

I think the flavour carries the normally-out-of-pie reach here.

Changed from Squire to 1/1 for {b}. We need a 1cc creature. Don't know why that bugs me so much, though.
