I don't really know if the Flvor makes sense as a human rogue, though. What if it had 1 power?
Can't block goes first, I'm pretty sure.
Oh, and this is of course related to the black-shfited Raid Bombardment, (((Not Raid Bombardment))).
I like this a lot more than Artificer's Response. The former muddles the theme of Kaladesh, but as an uncommon, this is more acceptable.
In creating the
'2 power or less' archetype, I'm looking to previous sets for some inspiration. It's roughly comparable to a classic tribal theme - like a tribe, having 2 power or less is almost incidental to the rest of the card - so we can use a similar structure to reward it.
In Origins, Thopters only had one common reward - Artificer's Epiphany. Elves had one indirect reward - Thornbow Archer. In Innistrad, Vampires had only one reward - Vampiric Fury. Zombies had two, Ghoulraiser and Ghoulcaller's Chant. So we should be aiming for one or two rewards at common.
The presence of a common reward is more of a signifier than an actual reward, sometimes. For example, Vampiric Fury serves more of a role of saying "draft Vampires!" than it does in actually being useful most of the time. However, these signifiers' lower quality is also important; cards like Fury and Thornbow Archer will more often make their way to the player in the archetype, letting them get the rewards (or enablers) they vitally need.
I'd say that a Raid Bombardment with a body is solid!
Interesting
Inspired by Silent Skimmer and Raid Bombardment.
see Aerial Mayhem
uncommon brother to Artificer's Response.
Could potentially make this into a more impactful uncommon (3 tokens for 5cmc?)
Could cost
but its not essential. Still fairly playable at its current cost.
We can push this more at uncommon, right?
Perhaps? We can push one of them a bit more.
I do still want this to be cleaned up a little bit. It feels so complicated for common, right now.
It depends on how good Canisters by themselves are. Rampant Growth isn't that amazing in Limited, yes, but this seems to have fun Constructed implications, so it might be worth printing. I could agree with Pioneer Researcher's power level being pushed up, though.
I understand that Artificer's Response is better for 'artifact matters', mechanically, but I worry that it dilutes the flavor of Kaladesh - which is a place where people make machines. The best way to showcase that is to include cards of people making machines.
Notice that in Magic Origins (with two exceptions, one at uncommon and one at rare) all Thopters are paired with the creature that 'made' them. This goes a long way to differentiating Mirrodin from Kaladesh.
How do we feel about the same stats but replace the ability with "When CARDNAME dies, if you control an artifact, draw a card."
It is a little bad that both of the blue artifact matter commons are about card draw but I don't think we want to do flying here. It could bounce a creature but chances are you are doing that after blocking and they recast it second mainphase so you made them use mana but untapped it. It could kill an enemy thopter or bounce your own thopter maker.
I prefer Artificer's Response because it puts 2 artifacts into play so it can double down on the artifacts matter aspect.
I like this as a common enabler
Thoughts on making this either a 3/4 for
or just a 2/2?
Is this and Pioneer Researcher too low impact to make canisters work in green?
Possible replacement for Artificer's Response.
+1/+0 bonus to +2/+0 bonus
ok changing to +2/+0
Between this and Waterlore Naga (which I like more than this) do we have too many low impact utility creatures in blue commons?
common to uncommon
As much as I love this card we once again have too many tokens, moving to uncommon.
removing from skeleton
I'm not sure blue needs yet another very low impact creature, going to remove this from the skeleton for now
