moved from common to uncommon
Does this need the +1/+0 bonus?
God this card is brutal (but I love it.)
Due to our wording of making canisters they actually have a canister subtype. This both saves text space in the cards that create AND the cards that reference canisters.
added canister subtype
This can be common in my opinion. Defeat is not a strong card.
As for if it fits the set at common thats a different developmental question that won't be answered for quite a while.
In every playtest we had advancement ended up having a high comprehension complexity (and being fairly mathy) for a mechanic that was nearly always CMC-1. Also our design space at common didn't end up as large as we initially thought.
I think advancement has a place in another set, especially one where you can mess around with the colored costs more. But it wasn't working in Tesla.
I'm rather sad to see Advancement go as well. I thought it was a nice fit for the set - a gradual progress mechanic that has nice backward compatibility, and also a good fitting flavour.
Nice. Opposite of Ethersworn Shieldmage. 3/2 with flash for 1GG and a relevant ETB trigger seems fairly pushed, but okay, some cards are pushed.
BTW, I think the flavour is great for the set, "silence dissent" with this ability.
And I agree, this sort of simple removal is all over the map in terms of cost and rarity. It would be nice if an uncommon card were more interesting than this, but I wouldn't try to do that now, I'd wait and see if this card ends up as common or uncommon, it could easily be common, and if not, you could probably find a simple rider that fits the flavour.
May as well have the actual Canister token itself, given we've got a bunch of things referencing it.
use Canister boilerplate
I said on the Goblin Artisans thread that I definitely don't want the same law on all commons, or even the same law on all commons of the same colour. But I'm completely fine with repeating laws within a colour as long as there are at least two or three different ones at common. So I think this looks good.
It might be worth trying to find some common part of the card name that all the "attack with multiple creatures" lawmakers can have, to help opponents remember more easily what they have to avoid doing.
I agree that this probably isn't (or shouldn't be) actually in white's colour pie. It's much more white to punish something for being big and scary (Reprisal, Smite the Monstrous etc).
But I agree rarity can be adjusted based on the needs of the skeleton. I'd prefer if the uncommon version wasn't literally just this text box - this looks like a common card's text box - but that may be just me.
It really could be common or uncommon to our tastes. Like doom blade. Constructed viable removal tends to be higher rarities, but I can totally see this being a common.
The question I was asking was was this that much better than Defeat that it deserved the bump in rarity. At the time, I said yes.
That said, until we are looking to find space in or cut cards from the skeleton, I don't think we really want to toy with the rarities too much.
Protection --> Prevent damage.2/2 --> 3/2. Thoughts?
Now uncommon. Now has a law.
Updated text.
I'm still gonna miss Advancement. Shame it wasn't as interesting as devotion.
