Reminds me of Desecration Elemental. I wouldn't be surprised to see this printed (except for a slightly less odd size and with slightly saner templating).
Despotic Scepter + Heidar and Zur
Blow up your own stuff. Return stuff. Discard stuff.
Actually, you know, that'd make a really great black downside overcheap critter. Let's go there. (4/7 is such an odd size)
And I don't think it has to be "~ destroys", it would normally be "sacrifice" but this way feels much more flavourful.
Yeah, I think that's fair, I was just amused that even after all that rant, we still missed one of the major powers of the titan :)
Oh, sorry; "Or attacks". I forget that bit.
Well, I'll keep the downside version only on ETB; the alternative is possibly too cruel.
'Only' a Firebreathing 6/6 with 3 damage on ETB tacked on.
Don't forget it's 3 damage (split however you like) every turn, not just once :)
Inferno Titan + Lamia Matriarch
"I have 6 mana so I win the game".. actually; wow, that's a really weak titan. 'Only' a Firebreathing 6/6 with 3 damage on ETB tacked on.
And mash with... huh; a creature. With nothing else. Unfinished card I guess. Let's reroll... Reflected Bolt
Hah! The direct-mash actually probably balances the titan :) Let's do that.
...you may search your library for a land you drew mana from to cast it...
This wouldn't work, to do I think it should read something like: ...you may search your library for a land with the same name as a land you drew mana from to cast ~...
Liliana's Shade + Snake Pactmaker
Black landesearch? Didn't know that!
So, pretty clearly we have here a common creature that brings an extra card into play with it. The pactmaker also goes to neighbouring colours to find its powerup; so a
is plausible here.
Alternately, we could just have a flying landbreather. Nah. Blue+Black=Green, right?
Oh, and it should have creature type 'S'
So I don't think the rules actually support memory of where mana came form; but the concept is pretty obvious for players to understand - and like the shade it has a nice "Obvious use that, oh, hang on, I could tap some funny land and make it much better" use. (Where the shade leads up from 'it boosts it more' to 'hey I can start casting nightmares')
Maybe ought to be 2/3. Also, made me think of a challenge; we've not had one recently.
Makes sense to me.
Maybe the equip cost should be a lot higher to match the other living equipment; I don't really want the initial cast to be too high; and I guess even Slagwurm Armor has a relatively high equip cost.
By the by, I'm still snickering at "The wonders of +1/+4 and Vigilance..."
I think it's more that Vulshok Battlegear was spectacularly overpowered. I mean, it's had more cards printed that are strictly worse than it than anything else I can think of in Modern. Greatsword and Warlord's Axe are both far worse than Vulshok Battlegear. I think it turned out to be a bit too stonkingly good.
And yeah, having played with Skinwing and Strandwalker, I'd play with this.
Well, my comment has more to do with the state of common equipment. Since Mirrodin, common equipment keeps dragging down hill... but even in Mirrodin, at uncommon,
and
gave you +3/+3. I know it doesn't really translate but I can pretend that +3/+3 = +2/+4 = +1/+4+Vigilance. I can definitely imagine that if I say that 'uncommons are better than commons, but not in obvious ways that new players would easily recognize'.
Or, to put it another way, at
and
, I'd draft it. I wouldn't be proud, but I'd probably take it 8th pick. Whether 8th pick commons is what someone wants their design to aspire to... that's another story.
jmg: You reckon? It's be very unexciting if you had to pay
before you got to give something the wonders of +1/+4 and vigilance. I think it'd be fair to say this ought to cost a little more than Yotian Soldier, or alternatively be slightly smaller, but TBH white weenies have been getting a lot better recently so this is probably fine as a white common. (Think of Priests of Norn.)
Huh. You could cost this
and it would be more than fair. As it is, without Living Weapon, this is a reasonable card.
Yotian Soldier + Aura Snatcher
Huh. I remember good old yotia. It kinda worked out like a 4-toughness wall that could ping for 1.
So I think this is the obvious combination.
Equip cost I'm not sure about.
No, you don't. You can cast Jilt on just one creature, or Orim's Thunder even without any creatures to target. One of the more obscure bits of Comp Rules magic.
Also there might only be one target, which was always a fun problem for those to have. Except; argh - you probably have to provide the second target even if you don't kick, do you? That seems silly, if so.
Yes, this is reasonable. Normally worse than Steal Strength / Leeching Bite, but not always: you might only have one mana up. Seems fine.
Canopy Surge + Help or Hurt
A hurricane variant and, uh... I presume that's meant to be "Choose one: +1/+1 UEOT or -1/-1 UEOT", because as written it makes my brain hurt. (Target creature has an increased margin of error... Ok, let's put that comment on the card itself, and move on)
There's a really simple and quite printable obvious common mash here, so let's do that. (Guh, not SO obvious, I want to up it to +2/+2 but also being -2/-2 is then a bit too good, and leaving it different sizes feels wrong. Though a card that also plonks down a 3/3 token seems right. Ah well. Stopping here; it's a weak but flexible card.)
Thunderbolt + Encrypted Magic
A card that's just trying so hard to pretend that it's not a nerfed lightning bolt, and.. wow. A control-deck hoser. So I guess the obvious mash here is a "I wanna grow up to be a lightning bolt" that cannot be prevented.
Heh. It's also close to a reprint: Razorfin Abolisher :)
Meh, really I just wanted to combine the two sentence to make the card shorter. But yeah; if it doesn't actually work in the obvious order, then it needs rewording.
You do realize you'll be able to get the white mana out of this on the turn you play it, right? I suppose you could just have it come into play tapped otherwise...
