Old Man of the Sea + ((C20940))
Creature stealing meets... a card that lets you search your deck when it deals damage.
Hmm; have we had that as a controller variant? Let's try it.
Mogg Flunkies + Koskun Redoubt
Yeah... we don't see much interaction there because it is unintuitive, and Wizards shapes their cards to maneuver around it. But an attacking creature is still an attacking creature after it dealt damage, so long as we're still in combat...
Oh, by the way, it's a good rule to abuse in multiplayer as well. Next time an opponent attacks another player, try Rebuke-ing their creature after the combat damage is dealt, but while you are still in combat. ;)
For a brief moment you are. Normally nothing happens after damage is dealt during the combat damage step, but priority briefly flares up. You could activate the ability then.
Best wording: "
: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, draw a card. If you lose the flip, destroy target attacking creature you control. Activate this ability only before the combat damage step. (Target the creature before flipping the coin.)"
What, goblin boats sink AFTER they reach land?
I really didn't want you to be able to deal damage and then sink (well, modulo first-strike anyway)
I thought after damage was dealt it was too late; you're not an attacking creature any-more?
Technically, you can only activate the ability when you control an attacking creature, since you have to target it before you flip the coin.
You should probably remove the parens, indeed, but as an alternative you could remove the entire parenthetical restriction.
Well, I like the card. Even if you need to drop the parenthesis and make the reminder text actual text. But I'm cool with the occasional wordy Goblin Artisans-y type card that does something flavorfull. I suppose this could just be an uncommon, too. It's a very good ability with Goblins.
Goblin Artisans + Longship Raiders
Yow; the oracle text for that got nasty. Anyhow - when you cast an artifact; risk flipping a coin - draw a card if you win, lose the artifact if you lose.
And the vikings bring us more card filtering on a must attack creature.
Clearly; the goblins need to move into boat design.
Nope. It's a green cat. It jumps from trees and eats squirrels. (Yeah, mechanically you're right. However, this cat is squirrel flavour, and thus green. Possibly purple stripes.)
Price looks about right. (Cf Razorfoot Griffin; you only get a 2/2 flying haste for 3 mana if it's gold - Skyknight Legionnaire.) But could this at least be red or white? Red gets cats from time to time, and gets first strike and sorta gets flying, unlike green.
Bwahaha.
Somewhat horrible to be hit with early on; but then, poison isn't very nice either; and if you can kill someone with it you've killed them by damage three times over...
Yeah; I like that. Will yoink next time a mash needs 'and then make it blue'.
V: MaRo has repeatedly bemoaned the absence of blue keyword abilities for cycles like this.
One of the more interesting proposals on this thread on the topic was "Sabotage": "(Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, look at the top card of that player's library. You may put that card into its owner's graveyard.)"
They're playing up the vampiric flavour of lifelink recently: I think more black cards have had lifelink in the past couple of blocks than white cards.
Upcosted, due to Orchard Spirit and Treetop Rangers
Patagia Golem + Viashino Frontline
.. a flying squirrel golem? Really? Cool! Not even 'un'. How did I miss that one? (Well, apart from it being overpriced crap. Colourless is a serious price premium; but I think that costs more than any colour has to pay)
And a first strike haste thing that also has an ability (though in this case, it's cycle from play)
I think we'll go with 'gains first strike' as an ability.
Rack and Ruin + Goku, Super Saiyan 3
Seriously? Seriously seriously?
No. I refuse. Next card... Nyu
Right; that's it. I quit.
That's red again ;)
"Enchanted creature gains flash"
:D
Threw it away as being too white, ironically. Green would get trample. Blue would get screwed; as usual. (Seriously, can blue have a keyword ability other than flying, please? Hexproof does not count, as it should not be.)
Strange how giving it flying would have made it so similar to Armored Ascension. You're probably better off not having done that. Though, I must ask, did you think of lifelink?
Swamp + Claws of Valakut
Well, that's most of an easy mash. s/mountains/swamps/ But what do we replace first strike with? Deathtouch is probably blacks most obvious keyword; but then the additional power mostly goes to waste. (What, they're NOT going to block your +6/+0 creature? Riiight.)
Intimidate? That's... how politely can we say "Really freaking good"? Would have to up the cost, I feel.
But it feels the most natural thing to do, so. Gruesome Deformity and Vow of malice suggests that Fear is actually overcosted nowadays; so I'll not up this too far.
Probably ought to have granted flying; to suit the name (and the iconic +1 per swamp creature)
Blazing Shoal + Effigy Altruist
A red, arcane Howl from Beyond variant (a very very good one that must surely lead to some turn one 'death by Glitterfang wins) meets... a modular hill giant, that has a nice little punishment when it modulates. I like that punishment part, that ought to have been built in to modular as a balance factor. (It, itself, is a mash of Arcbound Worker and Dong Zhou, the Tyrant)
I fear if I manage to sustain my daily rate of mashups, soon I'll be practically certain to draw a mash as the multiverse half of the card. Something to think on.
So. The mash itself. I'm tempted to say "Howl from Beyond+Channel" but that's a bit too game endingly good. (And waht, discarding Emrakul isn't?)
Ok, let's go somewhere a bit unusual with this.
