Mashup of Target-Seeking Barrage and Accelerate
Hm. A few possibilities here. I decided this was the simplest, but still possibly interesting. It's two quite marginal abilities, but the damage may be useful early, and the haste be useful later. And it always has the chance of combining with a creature that deals special damage.
Mashup of Callous Sellsword and Pacifism
Hm. Not especially exciting. A small bonus for having the right two colours, probably taking this from below-the-curve to above-the-curve, but not spectacularly good or bad either way.
I don't think most sets can support all combinations of "one colour and a bonus if you control the other colour". I think Goblin Artisans' M13 had a cycle of allied colours in one direction, which worked fairly well, but Unreliable Sellsword would suggest a cycle of small bonuses for enemy colours which isn't normally what happens.
Mashup of Pressure Wave and Perimeter Captain.
This could get quite oppressive, but only if you load your deck up with defenders. I hope a defender deck is sufficiently non-competitive it can absorb the extra boost, especially since each creature can still only neutralise one opposing creature, just bigger ones.
It probably should be "tap another untapped creature with defender you control" so it doesn't have pseudoskillhaste, but I don't like it because it loses the connection to the original captain. Suggestions?
Mashup of Brand New Day and Fury of the Horde
Hm. Will this ever be useful? Well, possibly, if you have lots of small creatures and your opponent has a few big creatures. I considered alternatives that still had the "big attack, then everything dies" flavour, but didn't really like any of them.
Mash-up of Smallpox and Pestilence Demon
So, um, there was nothing much to do here. I made it triggered rather than activated because it's more evil and should only happen once. Alternatively it could be a
ability, but then you'll often not use it. It does have the problem that it's often just Smallpox if you don't have another creature, but well, there you go.
I was very tempted to say "non-demon creature" -- I think that's hilarious on Rakdos. But I think it's overkill to put that on every demon card :)
Stormbind + Absolve What the... why is that? Ah, timeshift. Ok, it's green discard damage because Ice ages. fine. And and interesting "Un-nerf, or shrink" white card that sometimes casts for free?
Eeenteresting. And I can't think of a good mash. Iiiiritating.
Let's go with "Naturalise-shaper" And let it hit counters too; because.
Yeah, I like it. As a combat trick it probably will trade with an opposing creature some of the time, and then it just sits there in the graveyard threatening to jump out at a moment's notice... When you hit threshold it threatens +3/+0, for example. It's rare that it'll be great, but I can see this being a lot more useful than it looks at first glance.
I like it. It's pretty flexible. I know we shouldn't compare cards to Bull Rush, but... well, you get the idea.
Mash-up of Impurity and Nether Shadow
I decided I couldn't keep the exiling one of your own permanents ability. It makes sense, but I just couldn't see myself ever playing it.
So have a different pseudo-cantrip instead. Most of the time, it will be really weak. But if you've filled up your graveyard enough, it can give everything firebreathing.
Another way to look at it is Holy Strength++ but only UEOT. And so yes, seems fair.
Mashness... it loses a lot of its parts. You could probably get a while other card out of it: "Untap target creature, it gains first strike UEOT" But that's ok. Nice mash.
I am generally envious whenever someone ends up with a mashup that is simpler than its parts... even if it is a stretch. This seems like a dece spell to me.
Mash-up of Alarum and Kitsune Blademaster
OK, this is basically Alarum but better, but I think it's within modern standards. It's less good than giant growth, but there are often a lot of "about +2/+2 ish pump spells", and it just looks like a good example of a white spell.
I'm not sure how much it counts as a mash-up. My interpretation is that Kitsune Blademaster says that Alarum can apply to an attacking or blocking creature, instead of non-attacking. And since that restriction doesn't matter, it doesn't need to be stated, so the average of two cards is actually considerably simpler than either. I think :)
Mash-up of Strength of Night and Reincarnation
OK, stay with me here. I know it looks like the mash-up should be green, but what other ability is possible other than this? And this ability is obviously black -- it raises zombies for crying out loud! :)
I quite like it. It's very simple, but captures something of both cards. It solves wizards' problem that Zombify is a bit too good in dedicated reanimator decks, but 4B is too expensive for general black theme decks :)
Mash-up of Diabolic Servitude and Chimeric Coils.
Now I look at it, I'm surprised this doesn't already exist. The flexibility is very nice, but it comes at the cost of constantly having to repay for the ability.
It's probably broken with additional casting cost cards, but what isn't? :)
Oh, um; yeah - I guess I am. So it's just "Draw a card that you've not drawn with a different copy of this card"? That's a lot less good. Well, never mind. Let there be bunnies.
I think you're misreading Tainted Pact: it only ever gives you 1 card, because it stops when you take a card.
Rabbit Captain + Tainted Pact
Heh, Lord of the Rabbits. And, wow. A complete and utter EDH win button (assuming you can find enough land variants, and some way to not draw any more)
Something referencing rabbits multiplying; I think works. Hmm, I think I've seen this card (sans bunnies) before.
Dammit; did I get the wrong lord? Damn; I did, Cowslip's lord is never actually named. Ah well.
A mashup of Rain of Ash and Mirror Shards
A bit like a red Mind Control, it can be a two-for-one under the right circumstance, but you'll usually have to choose, do you choose the little creature you can kill, or the big creature you can get the most use out of?
