Oh yes; I should have said that. The flavour is delicious. It's just unfortunate that it doesn't really work as often as you'd like. Could it somehow be worded to detain the creature before it fights, so that the fight is prevented?
Love the flavor on this card!
Indeed he doesn't. He's still pestering me to arrange a draft of something from RtR block so he can see some of the cards printed in the last year :)
Vitenka is right in that it's unlikely to fight more than once per turn anyway, not that many cards actually allow creatures to fight multiple times. 6 cards have repeatable fight abilities and 9 have one-off abilities.

Vitenka, I take it you don't keep up with recent Magic sets?
Ummm... Vitenka, did you see my reply to you over on Dirty Cop? I explained Detain there.
It's a good word; it should be a keyword.
But yeah; no exact idea what it does. Hmm, if you fight a creature; is that creature also fighting and detained?
Because otherwise this seems not so useful - they make it fight; and then it can't fight (or do anything else) until, um, the next time it would want to fight anyway.
I like it. But why no reminder text for detain? I played with RTR a fair amount, but I still forget the precise details sometimes; I'm sure many other players would too.
To contrast with Civic Obedience.
Detain is the Azorius mechanic from last September, as on Azorius Arrester, Martial Law and Lyev Decree.
Your thoughts pretty much apply, though.
So, what; Detainment Spell? I didn't see Detain on the set's mechanics page.
Assuming it's something like that; and the timing issues work out, then I kinda like it and kinda don't. I like it because it's an interesting answer to creatures that isn't a total shutdown. And I dislike it, because the times it's not a shut-down are the times you really really need it to be, and your opponent says "Ok, have a card, I don't care any more."
Dunno. Of course, I might have completely misguessed what detain was.
Well, I guess it already has a niche as a searchable outpost / funny-land enabler. And rainbow vale was largely hated due to being in fallen empires and thus tarnished with the brush of "Terrible and massively overprinted".
So maybe that's OK?
Yikes. I knew it was broken, but didn't realize this would be the response. How about I make into a slightly better Rainbow Vale?
Awww, now it's Rainbow Vale. Which I might be the only person ever to have loved.
Archaeological Dig, Abandoned Outpost (cycle), Forsaken City, Transguild Promenade...
Heck, If this has existed back in Unlimited; it would be an actual question whether to run this instead of some of the true dual lands.
That's true, actually - it does rather obsolete Rupture Spire, Grand Coliseum, and probably more.
It's nice; but it's, at least, an ETB penta-land. Which is a bit too good even before Link's objections come into it.
I like this effect. I had it on an equipment in my "cares about card types" set: Uniscape Bracers.
Eek. Seems very powerful. It's searchable by the entire Scalding Tarn/Flooded Strand cycle, as well as Farseek, which makes the next two points a bit more frightening: It's another post for Cloudpost, bringing the total up to 16 or 20 (!). It enables Urza's Tower, Urza's Mine, or Urza's Power Plant without the need of both others. I'm not too worried about it being a Desert or a gate.
