Colorshifted Simian Brawler right now, btw.
Removed unneccesary space
There was no creature with menace at common in black nor red. Now there is.
This seems like it would be better as giving +2/+0. Would be more red if nothing else.
For the discard theme and to get rid of redundant lands.
separate triggered and static ability, added haste
I had the thought of replacing this or a similar creature with a variant on Rise of Eagles to support our "big spell" theme.
Since we actually use enchantment creatures in this set consider this a suggestion for a reprint.
"~ has each activated ability with
in its cost of each creature you control" seems like a sensible restriction for an unbound rare.
changed order of activation costs to be consistent with canon templating; added name
Haste granting at three mana seems rarely useful compared to other options - maybe first strike instead?
Virtual vanillas/virtual french vanillas are nice, too, but serve a different purpose than vanillas/french vanillas. This set has been/is in dire need of some cards that can be broken down easily while in your hand; Ashna Piker and its ilk have three (partially linked) effects: Creature, land, triggered effect.
On a different note: It's a better idea to make new cards when you drastically change a design like this to not lose the entire context for a discussion.
One thing to note is that the basic landcycling cycle almost function as french vanillas, without the cycling thats pretty much all they are.Ashna Piker currently has haste so its not like we have none.
Changed to a 3/2 haste for moment.
Looks better with wording reversed.
Changed so the token can fight when created.
Changing it to just tapped creatures would definitely make it a bit more restrictive.
I was thinking we could use a haste creature.
Changed to DJK's suggestion.
That's a pretty good idea.
Maybe this could only get the abilites of tapped creatures? Lets the opponent have more control over what they give to you in a similar vein to the other two. As it stands players might not want to cast some creatures because their activated abilites will get 'copied' while you control this.
Could just be a 3/3 vanilla. Or maybe a 3/2 with haste.
I'd keep the other increasing discovery cards in for now but I'm still not too fond of them.
Id rather keep this as its costed and maybe add card draw onto it or something? We only have like 2 instant and sorcery spells at common that support the 'big spell' archetype in blue and red. With this that increases it slightly.
I feel like this could just could
or something.
"Just not this one, as I see why this one isn't a great idea." Yes, I agree.
I don't think this is a very fun effect to have. I don't mind the idea of on board repeatable counters, but only if the usage is somewhat variable- otherwise things can get too degenerate. This is quite consistent though, even with the soft counter element. Something to try is having you tap multiple creatures for the cost, such that you won't always be able to use the effect. I like how that synergises with other unbound creatures.
My suggestion is then to make it a 1/3 and change the second ability to "
, Tap two other untapped creatures you control: Counter target spell unless its controller pays
".
I think that's fair. But for the same reason, I don't see a problem with a couple cards where Discovery is psuedo-landfall. Just not this one, as I see why this one isn't a great idea.
