Oh I just wanted to get some direction from the rest of the gang. I don't know if enlighten works or not. I remember having this conversation and voicing some concerns, but, I think I was just playing devil's advocate at the time. Since it probably won't be a major mechanic, since there can only be so many enlighten cards spread out among so many colors, there's a good chance that it could end up balanced and exciting. Strangely, we may have to make all the U/X enlighten cards a little weaker, though.
That sounds about right... if we go 5 CDs at all. Truth is, 14 gold cards aren't a lot of slots. If we have 5 CD cards and 5 non-creature spells, that leaves only 4 more cards in common. It may be wisest to keep 3 or so, if we want to have a more diverse pool of gold. (oh, and probably request 15 gold cards in order to keep symmetry).
I think we'll probably end up with a mix of our two versions of the CD creatures. This card, for example, seems more reasonable to me than Aven Glimmerwing.
Haha, yeah. Sorry about that. Usually we all see to work at different times. I figured we were all in different time zones or something.
. I might prefer an untapped land without the
, I'm not sure.
Having the land enter tapped is probably fine, if you keep the tap for
Though I left this at CD for the sake of the cycle, it probably needs to cost at least one more. Generally, an extra color is worth about
, I think, which means that Aven Fleetwing should cost

, right?
I think I mentioned this card on Flying Bears. Since red and green are the worst at flying, especially at common, I thought perhaps their CD creature should be the only one to not just get flying straight up.
I was still editing. We seem to be right on top of each other today, Link :)
This is better on round 1. Then goes quickly downhill in a two-color deck. I added the "tap for colorless" to prevent people from saying that it needs it. I figured it was better if people knew that I thought of it by adding it... but all I did was reverse the comment, I suppose. It is a tricky problem, though. It kind of sucks to see a land come out and do absolutely nothing.
As it stands, this seems more powerful than Evolving Wilds, it's true. It certainly doesn't obsolete it. I probably put too much oomf in this, though. How does keeping the tap for colorless, but put the basic land into play tapped sound?
I made enlighten cards purely to see if I could get them to work. At the moment, I just don't have another idea for an Aeran mechanic. If we think Enlighten won't work, I wouldn't put up a fight in place of a different mechanic, though I think Enlighten could be interesting to try. The cards I made with Enlighten are just testing the waters, as with all of my commons.
The only think I think we should shoot for for sure with gold is that it can cover all the things the monocolors can do. After all, that's the point of being gold, am I right?
As you've probably seen, I gave mine haste. Obviously, yours is likely the more balanced creature.
I think it needs to say "of a type that is not already in play" or something similar. Also, this is better, even in a two-color deck, than Evolving Wilds on the first turn. It thins your deck with no drawback. I fear the bonus
is too much.
I was thinking about the multi-color tribe, and how, ideally, I'd like to see them go nuts with colors. 3, 4 and 5 color decks would seem best applied to them. I was also thinking we may want to design an equal amount of allied and enemy colors to encourage this. If we only have 14 slots for multi-colored cards, and we spread them out among 10 2-color combinations, people would have to start going 3 color just to make a viable gold deck.
This land is designed with that principle in mind. It's really bad in mono, or 2-color mono decks. If you're playing R/G and you already have a Forest and a Mountain in play, it isn't offering you anything. In a 5 color deck, though, this card is solid. Getting you the land you need untapped.
Technically, any card in your library is not already in play, right?
Yes, I went with double french vanilla, because I wanted to create the feel of flying being vanilla for Aer.
I added the bears, and I'd throw some more cards against the wall, but I'm not sure what it is I should be focusing on. We've talked about Enlighten, but I don't know how much of a consensus we came to on that. Hey guys! What should I be designing toward out here? Do we need to have another brainstorm session, or should I just make 50% Enlighten themed cards and 50% the usual stuff?
I caved. I just don't like the idea of this one 'just being a 2/1 flyer'. In any other set, that would probably a great card, but it is so easily trumped by the other CD creatures that it's kind of depressing. Still probably right, though. Or maybe a second 2/2, or RG should find some other space? Don't know.
I didn't want to give the wall to U/W, so I sent it to U/B... the second strongest flying combination. Again, if this cycle is too powerful, and we bring a few cards down, this could be a 0/4 without thinking too hard.
It seems that while Link and I are overlapping right now, I'm doing the vanilla flying thing, while Link appears to be doing two scoops of french vanilla. That seems fine, then.
Blue and White are the two best flying colors, and have a strong tradition of getting in there, so I gave them the best flying common creature imho. It's quite possible that this is too high above the curve. It would probably be fine as an uncommon, though, so I suppose we'll just have to playtest to see if it is fair as a common.
Also, also: This card could have just as easily been a 1/3. I didn't want W/G to lag behind in the creature power race, though, since G/W creatures are supposed to be the best out there. Considering the fact that the rest of the CD cycle will probably be above the curve, I bumped this up a little.
Oops, I was typing and didn't see your comment! Hahaha.
