What he wants is "Ideally you could chump block with two creatures to absorb all of the damage", and if both chumps combined for 5 toughness or less, they wouldn't stand up to it that way.
"As long as no creatures are blocking ~, it has trample." It sounds so weird, but does exactly what you want.
Double Strike, Trample, "CARDNAME can't assign damage to more than one creature or player in each combat damage step."
Not using conventional double strike, I don't think.
You could do something like "~ deals 5 damage to the first creature that blocks it each turn" though.
From a goblin artisans challenge (to use a P/T previously unused in magic).
I tried to capture the "one-two punch" feel. I feel I got halfway there, but it's still rather like trample-lite. Any suggestions for streamlining it without throwing the concept away entirely?
It could have trample, but then it wouldn't really be any different to a 10/10 trample. Ideally you could chump block with two creatures to absorb all of the damage -- is there any wording which would do that in a natural way?
Looks like your nonstandard "add
" confused my colour-detection algorithm. For the moment I just forced it to be the right colour frame.
Mirroria had a few interesting lands - the Barren Wasteland cycle and Unstable Landscape. There's also Jack's Equatorial River which is pretty similar to this, although I think I actually like your version here more.
These will play fairly similarly to the shocklands, Watery Grave and friends; the difference is (+) you can get colourless mana without paying the life, but (-) if you don't pay the life you have to pay an extra
from somewhere before they'll make coloured mana at all. Seems strong but balanced - good job.
Ooh. Exciting. The opponent can still plan around it (and they could plan around it even more effectively if it was just "when an opponent casts a spell"). Still a rather good card, potentially tournament playable.
You'd rather make Pull from Eternity maindeckable? :3
I just wanted to make a few more Double Dip cards. See also Feel the Burn, Clinging Fibers and Constant Setbacks. Oh, and I should also mention that amuseum made the card (((Spear Tank))), which I just buried with my three entries.
You know... because "Counter target spell when your opponent casts a spell" doesn't really work very well. :p
I figured I'd need to make Double Dip work as a common, so I cooked this one up. Probably needs to cost
, but I'll pretend this is fine.
I assume that if Double Dip really existed, then the condition would need to remain the same on all commons. This would make Double Dip work a little like Morbid in the common slot. There are other common events that don't happen every turn... though, I wonder how many of them will be keywords soon enough. It occurs to me that Morbid is close to an evolution of Landfall. Odd, that.
I kind of like Double Dip, but it's on my Mashup Workbench, so I can't really evolve it into much over there. I figured I'd just make a few in Cards with no home to show it has legs (even if there are a few too many words in the parenthesis). Mostly, it's kind of like a 'fixed' Gotcha mechanic. It doesn't even rely on the graveyard to operate... there's been too much of that in normal Magic. I'm no fan of making a card like Morningtide main-deckable.
