Yeah. I feel like the reminder text will need to get a bit less accurate and more general in order to convey the concept in few enough words.
Does the reminder text also need a sentence like "Damage that would be dealt to a shielded player breaks a shield instead"?
The natural comparison is Fold into AEther. Which was a counterspell with a "drawback" but was priced more expensive than Cancel because of the potential for abuse. This seems to make a huge stompy Eldrazi / reanimator-style deck way too easy. I guess it's just Elvish Piper with a restriction and requiring two colours... But is that a sensible design space to be revisiting?
P/T went from 1/1 to 2/2
I wasn't sure what to set the P/T to, so I just set it to 1/1 as a safe bet.
And I wanted it to be an ability that activated when a creature was destroyed by that creature. I just figured making it grow stronger through +1/+1 counters was an easy start in this case.
Heh. Kind of funny to see the ability from Sengir Vampire get relabeled as 'Moxie'.
It's a nice ability; but a really bad fit for a 1/1 - unless the opponent is slinging 0/1 plant tokens at you, I guess.
I always appreciated the 'comes back from behind' nature of shields. Seems like a good idea for an alternate Magic format.
Duel Masters-style shields take lots of reminder text. I always loved the idea, though.
Criminy! I've never seen From the Ashes. Yeah, that's pretty much it, and Wizards has proven me wrong about the never seeing print for what Alex interpreted my comment to mean: one card that devalues 20 rare non-basic lands in a block is too painful for Wizards to print.
That said, I see that From the Ashes is from a Commander product. Considering those products are only Type I legal, that makes a lot of sense.
This is almost just a color-shifted From the Ashes.
I'd describe it as "forced Scapeshift for all players". Which is interesting. Painful hoser of most tournament decks with their mostly-nonbasic mana bases. (Is that what you meant by "booster pack devaluing"?)
Yes, Flood Counters are what I would want. Thanks for pointing that out.
Changed "Deluge Counters" to "Flood Counters" to match other cards' formatting of those counters.
Don't you mean flood counter? Quicksilver Fountain and Aquitect's Will already set a precedent, so making a new type of counter is counter-intuitive.
This is green dressed up in white flavor.
I dunno, this could be really really interesting in a landfall set.
Though the annoyance of actually fetching them all (or casting it a bunch of times until the opponent runs out of lands) does make it unlikely to actually exist in this form. And Blood Moon already exists for the non-landfall way to do it.
Armageddon meets Ghost Quarter. Will never see print, due to its booster pack devaluing ability.
I think this would need a huge cost to the activated ability, maybe
or so. Getting to draw 3 or 4 extra cards per turn with close to no drawback is just crazy.
