Blackcleave Goblin + Challenge # 064
That's harsh - it's a classic pure black creature. Haste (though too costly to really call aggro), infect, zombie.
Well; blue gets zombies too now (the power of SCIENCE!) and red gets aggro. Haste? Green gets that somewhat; mostly as part of the cat tribal.
So a zombie firecat? Not very blue. The zombie link is pretty tenuous, to be frank. Make it do something with cards? Or.. make it jump. That's classically blue, and flying zombie firecats amuses me greatly.
Flavour text from casting cost, because it sounds like something an Elemental zombie Cat would say. Half groan, half purr. (Half insane Vitenkan giggling at the type line)
Annoyingly; this now lacks most justification for the
part of the cost. I leave it to flavour; but it's a bad card. Needs a rethink.
Maybe just make it a lot bigger as colour-cost reward? That's certainly green. Ah; and black doesn't mind "Big with downside" Could work?
@Vitenka: No, since you couldn't activate the ability without a legal target. My suggestion does, however, prevent you from using the ability if it's untapped.
@SM: That is a problem. It would need a timing restriction like "Activate as a sorcery" to avoid that combo, but then you couldn't use it as a "surprise" blocker. Oh wait! You could go the Goblin Artisans route and say "
: Shuffle target exiled card that isn't the target of an ability from a creature named ~ into its owner's library."
It deliberately doesn't have
, as then it'd be able to untap even without things in exile.
Then Flame Fusillade or Power of Fire breaks it given the existence of just one exiled card.
As it is now, you probably want to exile the whole deck with something like Leveler or Demonic Consultation and then shuffle one card in at a time as needed, ending up with a stacked deck.
In that case, it should be "
: Shuffle target exiled card into its owner's library."
You might not be able to, but I clearly can; it says so, right there.#(Being more serious; it probably wants to prevent you using the ability unless it's actually tapped.)
Rhino Elf? I like that. This probably isn't overcosted, since an 8/8 with pseudo-vigilance is pretty good. I want to point out that you can't target in costs.
Riftsweeper + Judoon Platoon
Ok! A card that gets stuff back from exile, and... a Serra Rhino.
Ok, whatever we end up has equal power and toughness, and they should be even, and equal to their CMC.
Now, how do we mash "Vigilance, white" with "Unexile, green"
Right, not going 0/0 so that means jumping to 6/6 or 8/8. Eight is the correct size for bigass green fatties. And that means I go rare; and get to put silly abilities on.
(Name and flavour from Fantasia, card itself is probably a vital combo piece in some deck I haven't dreamt of - but is basically a bigass fatty that might be vigilant)
I'm now wondering if, by modern standards, this is still overcosted. I mean; it's costing six and you have to get through three times to win with it, and it doesn't have any abilities to help with that.
It would probably be more traditionally green if it had trample...
Much less words than the Taki-Mago, though, so I automatically reward you with the medal of achievement in design. Now you must attack, if able.
Damn, lost my text in an accidental refresh. the sources were Takkkkkklemaggggoot (or however it's spelt) and some mythic goblin lord that turned every goblin into a spikeshot when it attacked. I complained about the maggot's stupid long wording then made one of my own.
1/1 -> 0/1
Thanks. I kinda agree with adding defender as the better way of making it symmetric; but we're getting into real keyword soup there.
0 power is simpler, and that way it doesn't always outclass the original samite (just almost always) so I've done that. Also being uncommon isn't so bad now - who wants to open a draft full of 0 power creatures?
You know, I rather like this creature. Though I might be biased, since it pulls from my mashup. :)
I know white isn't supposed to have haste, but if we're going to give haste to white, then a combat medic who's most likely going to use it for its activated ability does make sense. I think I'd like to see that happen more often... though, maybe defender is appropriate. Perhaps you can call it the reverse of Goblin Raider's ability?
I don't like haste in white (for attacking). But I think "You may active this ability as though ~ had haste" is uglier, so why not making it a 0/1?
Goblin Raider + Force of Reckoning
Huh. One of the best aggro creatures ever printed, and... an almost invulnerable ground guardian angel. (That is itself a mash of Force of Nature and Oasis)
Ok, an aggro-fatty? An aggro-samite? That has prospects. Preventing damage isn't ever a bad thing. I'm not quite sure how I saw those two creatures and thought "You know what? I'll make a modern samite healer" but I did. A samite that's usable as a combat trik? Yum! Also, subtle anti-planeswalker bias.
It's flat out better than the samite; but I think that's ok nowadays.
Annoyingly; has to be uncommon because of "Tap ability that affects combats"
Funny. Reminds me a bit of Cocoon and its ilk.
Also, missing the first line is missing the word "Untap". Seems important. ;)
I would up the cost and mantain only the counter-putting ability, but that's a different card altogether.
I don't think Paralyzing Grasp effects belong in green, so I don't support this too much, but it's kinda cool that you can actually stop a creature in addition to the marginal effect. It doesn't work perfectly (stopping a creature will make the second ability more difficult to trigger), but they're both defensive so it's okay.
Well, not being as good a lockdowner as the colour of Oblivion Ring sounds about right :)
I kinda like that this could be used to pump up one of your own creatures for a while; or lock down an opponents creature at risk. But yeah; way too many words.
Shoulda just stuck with LTB:Scry3 lifegain enchantment.
That's pretty nifty. Somewhat reminiscent of Recumbent Bliss (which unfortunately managed to be far simpler). But this is a good hoser for, hmm... not so much Pentavus, but... things that do things with +1/+1 counters but don't remove them themselves. Joraga Warcaller and stuff like it.
Living Artifact, I'd forgotten about this. Only really good in multiples, and now exists as Sun Droplet (I always think to call that sundrop. Which makes it hard to find.)
Anyway, mash with... Predict and Prevent A.. blue green-style archer, that can be scrycled.
Ok, the problem with Living Artifact is the common problem of all auras - it's adding marginal utility to another card, and losing one loses both.
So, we could have scry tokens, or tap-down tokens, or a scrycling artifact or...
Well, I sat on this for a few hours and couldn't come up with anything earth shattering. So I think we'll make it a hate-aura so that the downside part is minimised.
Kinda an odd combination; but both parts are green. And lots of possible uses for it.
Ugh. FLyspeck flyspeck text though.
Oh, that's a pretty good thing to give with totem.
LOL. That works very well.
ETA: Wikipedia says the following paragraph is probably wrong.
Whenever something is named "boomerang" people forget that a boomerang is supposed to hit something, coming back is just plan B :)
Boomerang + Sudden Impact
