Yeah, I mean, on a land, having to sac a creature to add mana wouldn't be all that stellar to me, but in a goblin based deck, I can see this (and the prospector) as just being another way to utilize the Goblins and Goblin tokens that are going to be swarming the fired. I would probably add this land to a Goblin deck if I had some blue cards in it as well. I mean, even if I didn't have blue cards, I could just use the blue mana for generic costs, or artifacts even, saving the red mana for my goblins. This card prevents me from being too careless with my goblin sacrificing, which I mean, I shouldn't need if I'm paying attention to my board state, but still.
I also like the second ability. Turning goblins into mini a Hell's Thunder, minus the unearth ability. I also like how you could use it to send a goblin flying to block an opponent's creature. The tap again prevents you from "abusing" it and making your entire goblin army flying to dive bomb your opponent. I mean, I expect my opponents to be able to block some fliers, but an army of flying goblins? Let's just say I like that it's an ability that, under normal circumstances can only be used once.
My word may not have much weight, but I like this.
On the flip side; the prospector can be used multiple times in one go, can sacrifice itself in extremis, and doesn't use up your only land drop.
I agree this is aggressive, though. One reason I left the ETB tapped in there.
This first ability reminds me of Skirk Prospector, only giving
AND
instead of just
. It also benefits from being a land and not able to be killed with Shock or even Singe like the prospector.
I really wanted to do {馃悏} and get a dragon mana symbol. But that's probably too much to hope for :)
Cheapen. Arten.
Reminds me of Celestial Crusader. Which suggests this could be a little cheaper, as the Crusade there is permanent.
Lure is usually green, yeah. But I process this as a creature taking one for the team; which is whiter.
good point, in 2 player, it can be a sorcery, so make it one. Though it loses the possibility to mess with other players turns in chaos.
Nice. I'd make it a sorcery since it has to apply before blockers are declared, i.e. before the normal window for what people would call "combat tricks", and because it's detrimental to defending player so it's something you'd usually play when you're attacking.
It's sadly also more green or red than white. (Culling Mark, Mark for Death... though hmm, it's also in black with Loathsome Catoblepas and even blue with Vortex Elemental, plus
with Boros Battleshaper... so you know what? Looks like it's free rein in whatever colour you want, so go for it.)
ah, forced-blocking is the obvious way to do it.
ok, fine - inventing 'first fight
Fight is precisely identical to saying "Each creature deals damage equal to its power to the other". The only abilities that affect the outcome of fight are those that affect damage dealing (lifelink, deathtouch, wither, infect) or damage receiving (protection, indestructible).
Oh for... seriously? First strike doesn't work in a fight?
Gah!
I... fear you're running into the "fight isn't combat damage" problem again. This will die the moment it fights anything with more than 0 power.
Very interesting! Half of it you can get without the charge-and-sac part, with something like Blood Artist, but getting both halves on one card is pretty potent, so the sorcery-speed delay makes sense.
yay, Azaezelbunny. And Bob.
Mashup of Elephant token + Port
Elephant giving islandwalk? Possible, but not quite right. Let's colourshift the evasion ability into green. And I added the pump so it's not as much of a letdown if you sac this.
I can't decide if this should have trample itself.
On a related note, I am constantly disappointed that elephant-themed auras like Elephant Guide and Mammoth Umbra are never called "Pachydermis" :)
