deactivate. looks like it'll just lead to stalls
deactivate. doesn't do much.
activate. blue needs a counterspell
deactivate. very sad, but uncommon colourless is super squeezed
Deactivating because this doesn't do as much for the heroic theme as Camera Drone and Hero’s Cape. In order to want this, a deck would need a huge density of spells to target their own creatures, or be basically monocoloured except for splashes of two different own-creature-targeting spells in two different colours.
but actually this needs to be deactivated
Another missed import. I think it might be the apostrophes.
deactivate. it's fun, but the other colourless cards are more important
Heh, link fail. It was Hero’s Cape where I discussed why this is deactivated.
deactivate. as discussed on Amulet of Honesty, this needs a pretty niche deck / good set of circumstances to work
Uncommon artifacts/colourless are pretty tight. I need to get down to 10, and I'm currently at 11. But those break up as:
There are only 3 creatures on that list, so I think they all have to stay; it's one of the noncreatures that has to go, and I think it's the Van or the Detector :(
Already cut:
better art
And another that missed the import. This is a nice reference to the mechanic as seen on Lashweed Lurker, Mockery of Nature etc. If Fluttershy will dress up in a Cthuloid costume, making an Eldrazi card for her seems an entirely reasonable response.
This seems pretty small, but it follows the pattern of uncommons with Emerge: a 6/5 for
, a 5/4 for
, a 4/3 for
. You can still get it out pretty early if you sac something: turn 3 3-drop, turn 4 this, if you want. Either way, it's still a 4/3 flash that makes a great combat trick or response to removal in any colour.
This got missed out of the import too? I'm going to have to double-check all my cardlist.
Could actually be really good in a not-very-artifact-heavy deck for enabling self-mill cards like Stalking Slime, Addictive Power, Consolatory Feast or Garbage Fumes.
deactivate. too expensive for what it does
reactivate as explained here
Well, after that final round of painful cuts, gold is now colour balanced. Sort of. There's five gold commons, one in each allied colour pair. There's ten gold rares, one in each colour pair. The four gold mythics aren't particular colour balanced - Wizards generally don't colour balance the mythics in their sets either.
The gold uncommons... There are 15 of them. 1 in each colour pair, and an additional one in each of five colour pairs. The last two in each colour pair are:
The five common lands form a colour cycle order WURGB, so that's what I've currently done, making the extra uncommons be in WU, UR, RG, GB and BW. The colour pairs that most want an extra uncommon are WU, then RW, then GW and UB. I could hit slightly more of those by making the cycle RW, WU, UB, BG, GR; or alternatively GW, WU, UR, RB, BG. Or simplest in some sense is to just have allied colours GW WU UB BR RG.
So possible deltas from current:
+RW +UB -UR -BW: +Sunset's Devotee +Scarred Crab/Capture the Magics -"True Original" -Sweet//Sour
+GW +RB -RG -BW: +Steelfang Rider +CPMotivation -QCreators -Sweet//Sour
Also, I could consider making the five gold commons in the five colourpairs that only have one uncommon. Because WU really wants two uncommons but isn't that bothered about its common, Lift Harness. Ah... Except I don't have any common options at all for GB, and the only WB is Sweet//Sour downshifted in rarity. So that'd allow one of these deltas:
-WU Lift Harness -RG Caber Toss +GU Sleuth Filter +RW Sunset's Devotee (at common)
Combined with uncommon +RW +UB -UR -BW, making the uncommons WU, UB, BG, GR, RW:
(c) -WU Lift Harness -RG Caber Toss -UB "Welcome to the Show" +BW Sweet//Sour (common) +UR one of the many options +GU Sleuth Filter
(u) +RW Snset's Devotee +UB "Welcome to the Show" (uncommon) -"True Original"
update terminology
Adding a few cards that weren't in my initial shortlist but I've realised there are gaps. Somehow I managed to not include any counterspells.
[Edit: OK, I was wrong: there's Icy Demeanor. Still, most Wizards sets include one expensive unconditional counterspell - Icy Demeanor - and one cheap conditional or narrow counterspell, which is this slot.]
Filtering out those that deal with Contraptions and those that cost

, these are my options:
Misapplied Principles 1U
Instant
Choose a card type. Counter target spell unless its controller pays 1 for each card of the chosen type in his or her graveyard.
Expecting the same result from different variables will rarely end well.
Rainbow Rocks
Appeal to Authority U
Instant
Kicker — 1, Tap an untapped creature you control.
Counter target spell unless its controller pays 1. If Appeal to Authority was kicked, counter that spell instead.
Rainbow Rocks
Counterdistortion 1U
Instant
Counter target spell or ability with one or more targets. Scry 1.
When the surreal meets Pinkie Pie, the result is surprisingly mundane.
Shake Your Tail
Overthink 2U
Instant
Counter target spell unless its controller pays X, where X is the total number of cards in all players’ hands.
”You’d think a place as academically inclined as Crystal Prep would appreciate some careful consideration.”
—Twilight Sparkle
Friendship Games
Reasonable Doubt 3U
Instant
Draw a card, then counter target spell unless its controller pays 1 for each card in your hand.
With only her worst moments in their memories, none of Sunset’s friends believed her claims of reformation.
Forgotten Friendship
Just the Essentials 1U
Instant
Counter target permanent spell if its controller controls a permanent that shares a card type with it.
The Salty Sails
Adding a few cards that weren't in my initial shortlist but I've realised there are gaps. If I wanted more token generation at common, this is an option.
Adding a few cards that weren't in my initial shortlist but I've realised there are gaps.
This is fighting for the same slot as “Invisible”, but worth bearing in mind as an alternative.
deactivate as discussed
Hmm. This and Conduct Cognition are similar enough that the set definitely can't keep both of them: they're both niche "gain control of a thing in a certain specific circumstance" cards. That one's more innovative. That one's typically going to be 7 or 8 mana, occasionally 6 or 5; this one's typically going to be 6 mana, occasionally 4. Cognition needs the opponent to cast something reasonably impactful while you have 7ish mana untapped. This needs the opponent to tap all their creatures or all-but-one of them. They're both fairly plot-relevant moments of their respective films.
deactivate. this would often just cantrip, and occasionally be a massive painful blowout against “The Other Side” and “Coinky-Dink World”
promote to mythic, into the slot of Wallflower, Lethemancer
deactivate. I hatehatehate to lose Wallflower, but this card's gameplay might well be pretty miserable
deactivate. aargh... I have to cut a WB rare and Sunset Shimmer is just about more relevant
Somehow this didn't get imported either. I came here to deactivate it though: I need to cut one
and I think I want Solar Reunion and Phoenix Ascension more.
