FanOfMostEverything said to go ahead and tweak the Amulets' wordings, so I'm doing that.
Project to increase common creature count done for the moment. lost Cure-All Ointment and gained Autolevitator (with Costume Coordinator changing rarity); lost Caninize and gained Cryomancer Couple; lost Shameless Strut and gained Snide Pupil; lost Drummer’s Instincts and gained Dog Burglar; lost Forage and gained Road Blockers; and gold lost “Monday Blues” and gained Scarred Crab (with “Welcome to the Show” changing rarity), and Quarreling Creators and Caber Toss swapped rarity too.
With those edits done, my Creatures As-Fan is 7.16, a good step up from earlier, and in particular it's now at least a little higher than the Noncreatures As-Fan of 6.84. (At least in 2010, sets had about 50% of their commons being creatures.)
Since Vitenka mentioned it earlier, I also calculated the As-Fan of Songs and Bands. It's a pity to have effectively cut a common Song by cutting “Monday Blues” and promoting “Welcome to the Show” to uncommon, but they're still basically at parity:
Songs: 7c 10u 6r 1m; As-Fan: 1.1437
Bands: 9c 5u 3r 2m; As-Fan: 1.1497
So some sealed pools will have 7 Songs and 3 Bands, some will have 8 Bands and 2 Songs, but you can expect typically 6 of each. Not necessarily in the same colours as each other, of course.
And yes, this card only has two Vehicles to crew in the set: Tandem Bicycle and Salvaged Wreck. :/ At least neither of them have natural flying. And one of them is even a bike! :)
It is good to have a white flyer at uncommon though, so I have to take what I can get. And the card is a great reference to Gearshift Ace and Speedway Fanatic (as well as FanOfMostEverything making a delightful reference to the reference to E.T.).
art, so that people can get the pun in the flavour text
reactivate to fill the slot vacated by Costume Coordinator
move down to common, for parity with Apple Peddler.
The new common creature. Pity that Assist doesn't do anything in two-player formats, but it's okay even as a six-drop. I also like that it's an expensive Wizard which can therefore sit in your hand ready to kick the Magician’s Exit. That magician of course being one half of this couple...
reactivate to up the common creature count
The new red common creature. Red was the only colour that didn't have at least two common 3-drops and two uncommon 3-drops. This is a fun moment from a silly Pinkie short.
It's a little hard to find a screenshot where she clearly has both the dog mask and is digging, both of which elements are necessary for the card to make sense...
The new green common creature. I could have reactivated Crass Crooner, which does have plenty to do in the set, but there are soo many green 3-drops that I'd rather add something else.
up to uncommon, swap with Quarreling Creators
down to common, swap with Caber Toss
deactivate as discussed
Need to deactivate a common noncreature in each colour. This may be the best candidate in blue! It's a solid card, but blue common does have a lot of removal: as well as Caninize, there's Dysmorph, Icy Demeanor, Powerwash, and Seal of Failure which all interfere with the opponent's creatures.
I like Dysmorph staying for the silly combo with Freshman Flunkies, and Icy Demeanor is also playing the role of the expensive hard counterspell (where Appeal to Authority is the cheap conditional counterspell), and Seal of Failure is the only common bounce spell. Which leaves Powerwash and this, and that one's more interesting than this.
activate in place of “Life is a Runway”. this can at least do a Sleep or Vitalize impression or
deactivate. doesn't do enough. “Shake Your Tail” takes the blue common Song slot
deactivate. need to cut a noncreature from each colour.
deactivate. need to cut a noncreature from each colour. This doe work with Salvaged Armaments and various black things, but it's still the most cuttable green noncreature common.
This and Bully’s Mien are in similar space, so when I needed to cut a noncreature common, one of these two was a natural choice. The flavour of this one is a bit more fun, but Trixie is already represented in black common as the Vlogging Charlatan, and the Bully’s Mien is slightly more plot-relevant. It's a slightly better card, though neither is good; on the flip side, menace is more modern than intimidate. Close call.
deactivate: need to increase creature count at common a bit
deactivate as discussed on Teaspoon of Vanilla
Wondering whether I do need both Cure-All Ointment as a Disenchant as well as Piercing Light as a Disenchant/kill spell. I did this search to look at sets where a common white spell killed both enchantments and creatures. On the one hand, Dominaria had both Invoke the Divine and Blessed Light in white (as well as Broken Bond in green). But on the other hand, Gatecrash only had Angelic Edict in white as well as Naturalize in green, Oath of the Gatewatch had only Isolation Zone in white and Natural State in green, and Shadows over Innistrad only had Angelic Purge in white as well as Root Out in green.
So it looks like I could cut Cure-All Ointment or Teaspoon of Vanilla as I choose. This card is quirkier, more interesting and innovative, so I'm inclined to keep this one.
I need to cut one noncreature from each monocolour, to get the common creature count up. There's a fairly obvious candidate in most other colours: Forage, Drummer’s Instincts and Shameless Strut. But in white and blue the choices are harder.
This is one option. It's a pity to cut this, since it enables prowess (Focused Photographer, Dazzling Quicksmith, Amulet of Generosity), lifegain (Triple Scooper, Snack Psychic) and the artifact/sacrifice themes (Throw the Horns, Piecake Eating, Nerd Chic) and is nice with extort (Shakedown Specialist, Pitiless Banker).
But the other options are Cure-All Ointment, which has a lot of enchantments to target in this set, and serves the most conventional Disenchant role since Piercing Light will generally be used on creatures; and Licorice Lasso which also triggers the same artifact/sacrifice and lifegain synergies mentioned above, while also working with the Equipment and nontoken-artifact synergies (Faerie Bootmother, Bootmother’s Blessing, Backup Supplies).
So I think the Teaspoon is on the chopping board. As it were.
