What a waste of a name :(
Out of either 'territories' or 'discoveries' I much prefer 'discoveries'.
Psst. The name Break Open has already been taken.
Changed to destroy from exile
I think changing from exile to destroy would probably balance the card.
I was kind of worried about that too, maybe this should just destroy the cards instead? I was kind of going for a Fade into Antiquity that can hit an extra thing, but with a drawback because of that.
I mean, I've been tempted to add flavor text to some cards, especially ones with lots of open space, but it was generally said by others to wait on that. I think I do have one or two designs with flavor text in the file somewhere.
As for rules text for evergreen mechanics, I just assume in most cases it's to be left out, unless it's a sort of introductory style set. Taking up extra text space on the cards when not necessary is something to avoid I would think. Where the rules text will be truly necessary is for new mechanics.
Ah I had misread that. Still seems a little pushed to me to have a 4 CMC common that can outright exile three different permanent types. I guess the drawback kind of helps balance it.
I also feel like exiling lands might be kind of harsh vs. Discovery. Destroyed lands can potentially be returned to hand or the battlefield (I believe we have 1 green uncommon that does the former), but with exiled lands you're basically just screwed.
As far as world building goes I would love to go ahead and add the flavour to cards, but if we cant find art for that card then whats the point of me wanting something I cant have? The fleshing out of stuff like that tends to happen once we're happy with what we've got.
This gives the player who controls the thing you exile the token, hence why it costs 4 now
So they just forgot the reminder text for flying on Skyswirl Harrier? And Wind Drake? In fact the example you gave might be one of the only cards in Kaladesh that uses reminder text for an evergreen mechanic. Magic Origins isn't a really recent set, R&D has begun to change the way they design cards since then. In fact menace which was introduced in Origins doesn't even have its reminder text on some new cards; Wayward Giant. These mechanics are well known pillars of magic, which is why reminder text for stuff like flying and first strike dont get used anymore.
Adding unnecessary reminder text just clutters up the card and makes it harder to tell whats going on at first glance. Even if they still do it sometimes I would prefer that we just left it off, since the people that see this set are going to be existing magic players and they'll know what the mechanics do.
I feel that as a 4 CMC common this is OP now, as it basically exiles any permanent aside from creatures and planeswalkers plus gives a token. Should be at least 5 CMC I think. The LD as it is would typically be on a 4 CMC card, but to add enchantments and artifacts, plus an additional benefit drives this overboard for that cost and considering this is a common.
Any aspect is fluid. Half-empty type lines on creatures just look unusual and no one else is working on world building.
@TRicher: Reminder text for common keywords like first strike and flying has been used at least as recently as Magic Origins and even on rares e. g. in the product Welcome Deck 2016.
Highspire Artisan is in Kaladesh and uses reminder text for reach.
The reason I use reminder text is not strict necessity alone but also the fact that the space is available and the cards receive authenticity (and that not adding it is actually a tinsy bit of additional effort).
You will note I left it out for basic landcycling on the cards that trigger from it and hence don't have the space available.
Anyway: Please, do your research before forcing someone else to do it!
Possibly a bit over the top but it did need changing.
Increased cost by
, changed to 5 damage, deals it to all creatures with the same name.
Changed name
Changed this as it was something that people had brought up changing before. The bit that bugged me as the random mana that you got at the end, if we cut the red increasing discovery card because sometimes you lost the mana then this had to be changed.
Changed to now hit artifacts as well, costs
less, creates a token for the player who controls the removed card.
I'd rather this did something slightly different, we already have three other Raise Dead effects at common, one which also relies on discovery. Don't know if we want to switch this back to removal or do something else but I really don't think we should keep it this way.
Named
Possible card for CU01.
I wouldn't count the enchantment removal as creature removal since there are currently only 4 enchantment creatures in the set. Sunwind Glider makes you jump through hoops to get the exile off. Most sets have some sort of reactive removal in white now; Impeccable Timing, Gideon's Reproach, Puncturing Light. It's especially weird that white doesnt get some sort of instant removal considering its had at least 1 in pretty much every set released recently. If nothing else we should cut another piece of removal and have a instant version of it.
On another note 3 mana at instant speed is worth just +2/+0 on its own, in white at least; see Borrowed Grace
Agree
I would like this to be more like Augur of Bolas. It really clashes with Palm Reading because they do the same thing. That shouldn't be the case if this isnt some sort of theme in the set, especially not so obviously. One should change.
If we go down the Augur of Bolas route then this could look at the top 5 cards and add an instant or sorcery with cmc 4 or greater. Digs deeper but only gets more expensive spells.
The untapped portion of this doesnt make sense to me, if I'm going to be pumping my team they're going to be untapped. If they're not and I can untap them then I'll do it in responce to this. It might as well read "Creatures you control get +1/+1 and lifelink until end of turn."
This could cost
and give creatures +2/+0 and tokens lifelink.
Took the liberty and removed some cards from the skeleton that have been questioned. We should either look for alternatives or reaffirm why they deserve the place.
Removed this from the skeleton since it's a reprint
Removed this from the skeleton, we don't need that many Scryers in Blue in Common
Removed this fro the skeleton until we agree what we need in this spot.
