What about removing "Cannot block"? Wall of Stone can block, after all :)
Though that's even whiter, probably.
The basilisk ability got turned into deathtouch... I can find a bunch of "~ gains deathtouch and..." I can't find a plain old "Enchanted creature has deathtouch" either permanent or UEOT.
Well, if you remove it, then you have the card Arrest. I'm pretty sure we don't want to color shift Arrest to black just because it makes flavor sense on this one card. Alternatively, we could go for something more like Paralyze, though, I'm pretty sure Paralyze isn't really black anymore, either.
Yeah, that bugs me too; but some people use normal braces for mana symbols.
I'm really not sure why the sacrifice is there. Just to make this blacker and cheaper?
Note to self: (1.) without the period makes (1). Right.
This card is just to get the ball rolling on one of the last slots that needs to be closed in Community Set's common design file. People mentioned that we should have something that flavorfully ties to Gorgons, and I thought of this little number. There are three minor issues, though: (1) Is it okay for black to have Arrest, if the real purpose of the card is a cheaper Diabolic Edict? (2) Does the flavor disconnect in the last ability annoying? (Why would sacrificing one of my creatures stop another creature from turning to stone?), and, (3) We already got a good removal card at
. Is this overkill?
Point (3) is probably bumping this card to uncommon, at the very least. But can we get something that feels like turning to stone in either the two drop spot, or as creature kill spell that costs

to replace Square the Circle? Or is Square the Circle fine, after removing Chain?
Also the name has to change
I think black is still in design, not really development yet, so I think this is your decision, but I think making something simple and common is the right way to go.
True, not strictly better. In fact, now I'm wondering if it IS better, but it's certainly better half time, enough to support the "green, rawr" theory :)
Yes, this is good in that it's playable on its own, which makes it more likely its special ability will trigger.
I like this one, nice tension between "Sacrifice soon" and "Thump with him"
Candidate for the "Sacrifice ME!" slot. I originally made this card a 1/1, but I didn't want it to be trumped by Abyssal Gatekeeper, even if that card is a 4-star common. Besides, I don't see why this guy can't get a few hits in while he waits to be sacrificed. If we're going to have a drawback mechanic, the cards need to be good. Otherwise, both Timmy and Spike will hate the mechanic, and then we've got a big problem...
I'm fine with people changing my designs, since this is supposed to a community set, after all.
I went to the drawing board on Vitenka's "counts as two sacrifices" idea, and drew a blank. It sounds great in theory, but I have no idea how you'd use the rules to deal with that. Most times, like on Nantuko Husk, you sacrifice one at a time, making it even trickier to work there. I'd talk about -1/-1 counters, but that's where (((Pressed Centaur Gang))) came from, and it ended up where it is because we're trying to avoid counters where they aren't needed. Hmmm..
Added to skeleton, upped cc and changed to 3 cards. For the record, the card original said "Target player discards X cards, where X is the sacrificed creature's power." I'm reluctant to change other people's cards, and probably would have left this alone, but I got a sneaking suspicion that, even if that card is fair (I think it is), it isn't quite a common... more something for uncommon. Jack may feel differently, though, so I'll leave the final question to him.
This is true. I could even shut off your wurm's trample mid-combat with an Unsummon. I know what you mean, though, Jack.
Actually, as long as Pathbreaker Wurm isn't paired with something, it's technically worse than Yavimaya Wurm.
"Is situational trample ok on the big creature, or is that too good? It's better than green usually gets, but I think green's commons could do with a slight power injection...if Yavimaya Wurm can be be common, this can be bigger."
Oh, to make a follow laughting. Avacyn Restored has Pathbreaker Wurm which is strictly better than Yavimaya Wurm -- it has trample twice. I still think situational-trample is fine on a 5G creature, but I think I was right that green commons were needing a bit of oomph :)
If you want, you could also compare to Bog Down. Man, that thing was killer. I'd generally wait until round 4 or 5, then sacrifice two lands. Picking up the third card often meant the game.
Reminds me of Death Bomb. Applying the conversions "
instant Dark Banishing ->
sorcery Mind Rot" suggests that
would get 2 discards and 2 life. 3 discards is therefore probably reasonable but strong. Fugue / Mindstab were pretty backbreaking when they hit, so getting 1 mana discount on a Fugue may be definitely worth the loss of a creature.
There's no reason why we can't make Mind Bomb cost
or
. It's probably too good at
anyway. Round 1 Elite Vanguard, round 2 Giant Growth, swing for 5, then Mind Bomb for 5 cards sounds devastating (mana issues aside). Alternatively, we could just go with a set number...
, sacrifice a creature, discard three cards sounds like a decent spell.
I realized this comment was more appropriate on Mindbomb's comments, so I's deleted it.
