Made it not affect itself.
Rejigged it a bit
(I'm aware this is similar to Reality Sculptor but it's more permanent than that)
Laboratory Maniac really needed to be an enchantment. With this, it can be whatever you like!
Hmm. On second thoughts, allowing you to make things into planeswalkers is a bit crazy (especially as they die straightaway).
Also, redirecting doesn't quite convey the same thing, in that you're the controller of the new copy. That means this is essentially Commandeer with no pitchout option, or to be closer to the mana cost, Swerve + Swipe (assuming the latter is ever printable as is).
I tweeted Mark Tabak about that once, and he never replied. It would make perfect sense, of course, but since there are no cards that do it there's no need for a rule.
At the moment, the game falls over and dies. They still haven't added the utterly obvious rule that a copy of a permanent spell enters the battlefield as a permanent token.
Well, it is monoblue, as Last Word. And yes, Time Stop or Redirect will still counter this.
I like it. It probably could be mono-blue, but maybe ismore interesting as not. It probably can't be costed as is; it's better than counterspell for GU, and it would probably have to be GUU or more. Perhaps make it a negate variant, then it's better than negate for GU instead of 1U, and fits better into the G philosophy. I suspect the decision would end up made depending on which spells development want to be very-hard-counterable.
Link: Yes, on both counts. It could have hexproof, shroud or split secnod instead of uncounterable if drugs wants to close that loophole; it seems hexproof might as well be used on spells instead of "can't be countered by spells or abilities" now the keyword exists (although it's confusing that it would mean a different thing on a non-creature spell and a creature spell).
I think it should say "by spells or abilities," since I think they like to leave it being countered by the rules open.
Interestingly, this could still be countered by Redirect, am I right?
Fun times?
So what happens when you target a Serra Angel with this?
It would, but this does allow for interactions with cards like Guile that care when spells are countered.
Wouldn't it be simpler to just redirect it?
