The issue with fast mana seems to be that it's most useful in powering ridiculous storm combo decks. Which is very understandable, but it means you don't usually get to plonk down a 3/3 on turn one, which is what it LOOKS like it's for.
I wonder that wizards haven't tried to make a card like this, that's fast mana but works a lot less well with big combo turns.
What would be a fair mana production for this, if it only lets you get an actual card, not one step closer to a dragonstorm? Is

too much?
I think the "costs less" template is nicer, but I think it's essentially identical to "add RRR to your mana pool, use only to cast creature spells", is that right? And wizards usually use the latter.
Alternatively, this could say "you may pay 0 rather than the mana cost of the next spell you play this turn with CMC <=3". That allows you to play a 3/3 on turn 1, but not go "birth in fire, birth in fire, birth in fire, eldrazi" on turn 3. But the first bit is probably the most dangerous bit, since green acceleration can nearly do the latter anyway.
It might be even safer if this was "exile" like simian spirit guide, but there's probably not enough recursion in standard for it to matter.
Alternatively, this could say "Add RRR. You may play only one more card this turn" or something, so you can spend the mana on burn spells if you want, but not further enablers? Is that better?
If you were asked to print a "safe" fast mana, what would you do? Would it be better if it asked you to discard ANOTHER card as well?
Another in the Plague of Frogs cycle :)
LOL. Well, I'd still find it very useful, but I don't know if it should count as another vote until someone else requests it :)
I just saw this exact card on another site, except they chose -3/-0.
I'll take this as another ping for Allow unspecified rarity :)
It's fine to just say "you forgot to set the rarity" :)
I'm sorry that happens so often, I think it's unavoidable when some cardsets are posting supposedly "finished" cards, and others are deliberately designed for works-in-progress where the rarity may or may not be obvious yet.
Common? Seriously?
Another of the ten plagues to go with Plague of Frogs
Heh. I think this works fine as another tweak on obsoleting Coastal Tower :)
Half way between one of the ETB tapped upside lands (eg Celestial Colonnade) and the conditionally-non-ETB-tapped lands (eg. shocklands, Dragonskull Summit).
I'm not sure how "able to tap for mana the turn it comes into play, but doesn't help you play coloured spells on turn 1" compares as a drawback. It seems comparable to the "ETB tapped unless you control" cycle: this is more useful if you draw two in your opening hand as you can pay 1C on turn 2, but less useful later on if you want to use it as a blue splash in a green deck but have to wait a turn.
If a dual land is just a little too good, I guess it could have a "come into play tapped unless it deals 1 damage to you" tacked on :)
Another of the ten plagues to go with Plague of Frogs
Inspired by my Plague of Frogs. I want to see if I can do all ten plagues of egypt. Although it won't be a real cycle, since they'll match up in flavour but not otherwise be suited to be in a set together.
Yeah, I couldn't think of a good name, suggestions welcome :)
That's a strange name for something that will most often be used as a kill spell. Except when it isn't. You get the idea.
Ah, you're right. So it's even more exploitable: equipment and Giant Growth effects will also sit on top of this. (Equally, it doesn't work as an answer to Meishin, the Mind Cage or similar effects.)
Are you sure? Setting power/toughness is done in layer 7b, whereas modifiers are done in 7c.
