@jmgariepy: Well, you could but it's not really necessary, since the ultimate still creates tokens for equipment you control that wasn't dead. It's just that if they've previously destroyed or milled some of your equipment, you get additional value.
Strangely, you really want to play this with equipment that sacrifices itself, which, I can only think of Blazing Torch here. Also: Atog is a fan of this planeswalker.
@Vitenka: Huh? How's her ultimate "Win the game" in multiplayer?
Well, it's a multiplayer "Win the game" but if you can keep this walker alive four turns, then you probably deserve to be allowed to. Um, ignoring Doubling Season shenanigans, anyway. And potentially a nice tension between stealing a useful creature and stealing an expensive one.
Potentially horrible in a deck that's built around it though. "Oh look, I milled my Eldrazi, what a shame"
Put the ultimate down to -7 instead, it's probably not too powerful there.
Thanks :) It's a very different take on Gideon that hopefully still feels soldierish. And there's no Stoneforge-esque tinkering stuff into play, so hopefully it wouldn't be too broken even though it does tutor.
Ooh, a PW for White Weeniequip. Which can also be splashed into a Caw-Blade style deck. Good idea.
Well, I thought about what else a soldier planeswalker might be good at, and I thought maybe an "equipment master" type of planeswalker might suit his profile, following the old adage of "a soldier is only as good as his weapon". His ultimate is sort of a "call to arms" and tries to cover up for one of the weaknesses of running a lot of equipment in your deck - you might end up with no creatures to carry it.
Yeah, I'll try to think of something better. I'm sure I can come up with something more interesting.
It's kind of funny, that. I guess it turns out that Gidoen Jura had just the right amount of words without going over. This is a Gideon frame, with a more developed second ability, which, all of the sudden, becomes too much to read.
I definitely like the second ability, though. Personally, I think you should ditch the third ability, and go for something snappier. We've seen Gideon walk the battlefield. Unless you find a really crazy twist to it, that's going to be a ho-hum ultimate.
I didn't mean to say that the ability was weird in white or for Gideon as a character. Planeswalkers are very special cards, and for two planeswalkers to have a very similar ability that is also relatively distinctive is a problem.
@Link: I agree, I'm still trying to think of more unique abilities that still feel like Gideon. But, I don't think it's weird for Gideon to have a fight ability: he's a soldier, that's what soldiers tend to do. It's a way to give him a removal ability without it being as good as the 5CMC version.
While I think planeswalkers should absolutely reference and feel similar to other versions of themselves, I fear this is a bit too derivative of Gideon Jura. It's also odd for his second ability to be almost identical to that of Garruk, the Veil-Cursed.
Yeah, I looked to Nicol Bolas and Karn as examples of what big planeswalkers can get away with having on their + abilities. I think the costs are about right, would need to playtest to make sure.
@Alex: You're probably right. It's roughly equal to "Draw a card." except that it's better than that in the late game and conditionally worse in the early game, and if you look at Jace Beleren's Draw a Card ability, -1 is probably the right cost. I think I had it at -1 at some point, but then I messed around with her being a 2-mana planeswalker and then didn't change it back to -1.
Well, it seems much better than original Nissa because you're not required to put underpowered cards like Nissa's Chosen into your deck in order to make her good. I tried to keep her original elf-specific nature while making her be just a decent ramp spell in any heavy-green deck, like you said. Not 100% sure she would be good enough, but I think any 3-mana planewalker that makes tokens would be at least reasonable in power-level, let alone tokens that make mana.
Yeah, I wanted something Chandra that could at least compete with Koth as a strong aggressive planeswalker. And maybe have a card with a Fling effect be competitive in standard, because I always loved Fling :)
Yeah, her ultimate isn't very splashy how I had it. I beefed it up a bit but raised the cost, maybe it's a little more interesting now. :)
Changed her -2 ability to -1, and changed her ultimate.
Llanowar Mentor suggests you can save a word in the top ability. I don't know if making another Elf-specific version of Nissa is a good idea, given how unpopular her original was for being so specific. I guess this can just be a mana-ramp spell in any green deck.
