Sadly, this is probably unplayable at 4 mana.
I know.:-\
Pretty sure Wizards wouldn't print this at 3 mana unless it said "nonland".
:-P
Minor rewording to shorten them reminder text.
Heh, yes, a Planechase plane is a cunning way to allow Magic to visit "planes we'll never visit" like Utoparia :)
I don't like how wordy the reminder text is for this version personally. I do like tapping the creature instead of exile it as I feel that causes less potential memory issues, and gives players a way to cause a creature to dismount easier. This version is not as "permanent" as myForest Runner variant.
Thanks. Crosslinked on Prediction / planning mechanic.
Not sure if this is a much better change. I'm not even sure if I should have him put lands down tapped. I'm a little worried about allowing him to play untapped lands, but I'm not sure. I'll take the side of overly cautious for now, but as he is, he costs three life and two turns to put a land on the battlefield tapped.
No longer prevents attacking. P/T dropped down from 4/3 to 1/1. Lost Soldier Subtype. Name Change. New ability and minor reworded to an ability.
Alex, I remember mentioning this somewhere on the actual card set, but for the life of me I can't find the comment and now I'm not sure I actually made it. So I'm bumping this.
I'll agree with you on that Alex, but if a card like this existed as is, Mana Screw would be even worse than before. By making lands even more important, I feel it would cause the game to become unfun for some players. I mean, if the environment this card was in had ways of getting even more lands out maybe, but this would cause a lot of problems otherwise in just about any format. Maybe if he was only allowed in a very land heavy format he could work, but this card would not see print without such a format, and even then, he would probably only be allowed in that such format.
I recall chaining two Master of the Veils, back in the day, when I had an Aphetto Runecaster and a Bonethorn Valesk out. (Or a Weaver of Lies in place of one of them, though that was getting pretty expensive.) These days the best equivalent is Ashcloud Phoenix, I fear.
Link: I'm not so sure that having the most lands is necessarily good. About 50% of the time it'll mean you're annoyed at drawing so few spells.
Ha! Fun. He casts Tormenting Voice/Wild Guess. I would be compelled to add a mana payment to his triggered ability, though.
Both very good points. This card IS very one sided. To be honest, it just wouldn't be fun. That's probably why something like this hasn't seen print. I will work to make it something that cares about lands, but hopefully not in such a one sided way. Not sure what possessed me to come up with this. Maybe I'm just a terrible person and want to do anything to win. Broken and very un-fun. Must have some changes made to it. When I have some more time, this will see some (possibly) major changes.
It's very one-sided. And why would you want to reward players even MORE? Mana is already (probably) the most important resource.
