Adjusting this slot. Now a build-around and a sideboard card. Effect is double Altar of the Brood without the artifact clause so the combo deck doesn't exist. Might adjust it to three cards if it's too weak.
Want to encourage a combat-trick centric
strategy. Doubling a combat buff seems like it's the way to go. Slightly concerned about the burst potential, so I might add a sacrifice clause. Best used with any combat buff, but Monkey King's Call sounds like the most fun.
Not really, I'd rather not "introduce" a mechanic for use on one real card so far.
Yeah. I chose to put it in Red specifically because
creatures generally have less toughness and make fighting slightly riskier. The base cost is low but monsterizing is so high specifically so that you're encouraged to use it with cheaper monsters instead (plus the lower stats make it easier to kill). If it proves to be value city with White Bone Spirit, I'll bump the cost up to
.
Similar to Soul's Fire, I thought about making the trigger "Deals damage to target creature or player equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it.", but I feel like I'm using too many direct damage/life loss effects in the RB deck.
Undercosted beater with semi-relevant drawback. Probably best in UB control decks, but also usable in Reflex decks as well. Costed similarly to Desecration Demon, but I kind of want to make it cheaper and slightly weaker. Might be a little meh for a mythic.
That 'or another' would make that very very strong. Lightning bolt every time you stick +1 counters on things? Yum!
I think it could work with a bit of number tweaking though; making this a bit less powerful, or higher casting cost (which would let you reduce the monsterising cost)
This could be
as well - IMO it would feel better in that color. Could Soul's Fire effect work?
Have you considered using "hidden"?
Honestly might be a bit too good with White Bone Spirit, but we'll see.
Even with Fight, Green could always use a few answers to creature threats... especially those with evasion.
Making it Green is an interesting idea. Might feel a bit too much like fight, but I'll keep it in mind.
Inspired by a design from harlannowick of MTGSalvation.
Now a Grafdigger's cage variant. Bumped to 2/3 because Sylvan Advocate says its okay.
The only downside I can see to this is that it's such a strong answer. While everything should have an answer, this pretty much answers 'yes' to every kind of evasion. Which is a bit broad. Though I guess Unsummon already did that.
It also needs a creature to work, making it kinda green too :)
Wanted a one-off way for blue to counter unblockability. Similar to Curtain of Light and thematically similar to Illusionist's Gambit. It can be white or blue, but I feel like it fits a little better in blue. Not sure if this is gonna be in the final set. Useful for triggering defensive Sequence spells.
You can cast this after first strike damage but before normal strike damage. You can cast this after combat damage is dealt for some reason. If your creature is blocking another creature, it is still blocking that creature. Similar to creatures that can block multiple creatures at once. Tapped creatures can be assigned as a blocker. The rest should be covered by the reminder text.
At minimum its a Bump in the Night without flashback, so I think its okay. Or its Dash Hopes for
with the ability to scale further, which is a fair enough cost because Dash Hopes was pretty garbage. Better in aggressive decks and late game than in control decks.
Callback to Ethereal Armor.
Pretty boring for an uncommon, but a step better than Inspiring Roar. Might spruce it up a bit more later.
Name change.
It gives +2/+2 normally because that's what Riding the Dilu Horse gives.
Might move it to be a bit cheaper and a rare, given how annoying this makes removing things. But I think it's at a high enough cost to be okay at uncommon (like Archetype of Endurance).
Not particularly based on any mythological bird but rather Chinese symbolic attributes of owls.
Another

draw X cards with minor upside. Helps you remain relevant after spending 6-7 mana to draw some cards lategame.
Yeah, the usual "spell or ability" clause is undone because it's repeatable. You could technically destroy it before it's returned to hand by keeping 5 mana up for it, but your creature is still sacrificed. At least with the spell-only clause you force your opponent to "waste" a spell on your creature. I don't think it's particularly good without the ability clause, but there is probably a use for it in Talisman-heavy decks.
